Mission Statement The mission of St. Joachim Catholic School is to assist the parents and parish community in the shared responsibility of providing an excellent religious and academic education that is Alive in Christ for the children of Washington County. FROM THE DESK OF MRS. LITTON...... The school year has gotten off to a great start. We had over 100 parents and students attending the Open House. Our theme was "Needing S'mores Jesus" and focusing on prayer. Daily prayer will be said for the school, students and parents. It is a privilege to be the principal of St. Joachim and to greet students daily, teach them and provide knowledge for their futures. School began on Wednesday with the start of Holy Mass. Students started organizing their supplies, getting to know their teachers and learning new schedules. Ours school will be in "school Improvement" starting this year and will run a two year cycle. The purpose of school improvement is to acknowledge the good things we do and to work towards improving them. A finished product will be completed by the end of the two years and turned in to the Archdiocese. Upcoming: Friday, Aug 17 - Flip Flop Day (students may wear their flip flops) Friday, Aug 24 - Sunglasses Day (students may wear their sunglasses) Wednesday, Aug. 29 -Mrs.Litton attends a marketing meeting at Regali Center Friday, Aug 31- Professional Development Day for Region 6 teachers (NO SCHOOL) Monday, Sept 3 - Labor Day (NO SCHOOL) Thursday, Sept. 6- Picture Day Sunday, Sept 9 - Fall Festival and Grandparents Day! Memo from Archbishop Carlson on Alkaline Hydrolysis Cremation In a memo released July 26, 2018 by Archbishop Robert Carlson, he stated, “The Archdiocese of St. Louis advises Catholics to avoid Alkaline Hydrolysis until another suitable means of disposing of the liquid remnant can be established.” The letter further states that the Alkaline Hydrolysis process uses a chemical solution, instead of heat, to reduce the human body to liquid & bones. After the body has been “bathed “ in the chemical solution for a few hours, the process is completed leaving behind a sterile liquid and bone fragments. The liquid solution is disposed of through the sewer system while the bone fragments are then pulverized into ash and returned to the family. In the course of our study we have concluded that since alkaline Hydrolysis releases the remnants of the human body into the sewer system, this form of cremation in its current practice violates the dignity of the deceased human person.

THIS WEEKS READINGS - Today’s readings paint the picture of banquets, from the sumptuous table set by Wisdom to the Eucharistic meal that Jesus introduces. Just as Wisdom’s feast offers more than simple food and drink, Jesus’ Body and Blood offer more: eternal life and Christ himself. As we gather together to join in this feast, let us “be filled with the Spirit, . . .singing and playing to the Lord in (our) hearts” (Ephesians 5:18-19). QUESTION OF THE WEEK- What can I do to show others that I have advanced in understanding and that Jesus remains in me?

August 19th- Word of Life “Never tire of firmly speaking out in defense of life from its conception and do not be deterred from the commitment to defend the dignity of every human person with courageous determination. Christ is with you: be not afraid!” Address of John Paul II to the Bishops and Apostolic Administrators of Albania on their “Ad Limina” Visit, February 3, 2001 © 2001 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Giving Thanks Always and for Everything The Gospel today is critical for our lives as Catholics, as it illuminates the truth of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Read John 6 again and again! However, since I touched on the first part of this passage last week, I want to focus on St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians today. In this letter, he provides us with a hallmark of the Christian life: rejoicing and giving thanks in all circumstances. We find ourselves in all types of situations during our earthly life. These include sick times and healthy times, sad times and cheerful times, times of defeat and times of victory. The crux of the matter is that we must always give thanks to God for whatever He sends our way. The apostles and early Christian martyrs rejoiced that they were found worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus Christ. They glorified Him in life and death. Similarly, we are called to be a people who do not despair or embrace a cynical perspective on life in the midst of trials. In our workplaces, our families, our neighborhoods, and all our endeavors, we are called to manifest the goodness of God and the truth that He uses us to accomplish His will in all things. Jesus, thank you for EVERYTHING. archstl.org/dynamic

CARS NEEDED ANYONE WHO HAS A USED CAR THAT MIGHT HAVE ONE OR TWO GOOD YEARS LEFT IN IT WOULD you consider donating it to the St. Vincent de Paul Society? There are families in the area who come to us for assistance who could get a job but don't have transportation to work. Please contact Fran Pashia, the President at 573-210-4150 if you have a vehicle that could be used. Thank you for considering this gift.

September 5- St. Ann Sodality Mtg. is the shower to help fill the cedar chest for the Fall Festival.
