  • Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan By: Colton Bowker

  • Basics of 9/11On September 11, 2001 a terrorist organization named Al-Quida launched a terrorist attack on the twin towers. When the attacks took place President George W. Bush was at Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota reading a book with the children.Later that night Bush addressed the nation on the events that took place that day in New York City.

  • Before the war in IraqSeptember 11 was planned by a man in Afghanistan. However, while in the Middle east we went to Iraq to end Saddam Hussein's reign of terror. In October of 2002 Congress granted permission to go to war with Iraq.A Surge of troops lead by the American (248,00) and British(45,000) invaded Iraq with Australia(2,000) and Poland(194) also behind them.

  • Operation Iraqi FreedomSome major goals that the U.S. had set were to take the capital city Baghdad.By April of 2003 the entire Hussein regime had collapsed but Saddam escapes. In December of the same year he is found hiding in a whole outside of a town named Tikrit.

  • Before the War in AfghanistanThe Main objective in Afghanistan was to capture the Al-Quida leader Osama bin Laden who was hiding somewhere in the country. On September 14, 2001 war is declared on Afghanistan.Al-Quida is heavy throughout all of Afghanistan.

  • Other facts about the warsOne of the reasons we went to Iraq was to stop Saddam and his sons cruel acts against the population.Examples of this are the public executions.Another is a fact my father told me. I found out that every time the iraqi soccer team would lose a game one player would be stuck in an iron maiden and closed. Also oil played a huge factor in this war.
