PRINCIPAL’S REPORT STATE CROSS COUNTRY
Once again Rhys and Cooper competed in the state cross country event last week, performing very well against a large field. Cooper came 11th and Rhys 13th, despite a couple of falls! Both boys have opted not to compete in the national championships in Canberra, but hope to be selected for the track and field nationals in Sydney later in the year.

PUBLICITY
You may have noticed the article in the Sunday Herald Sun about our involvement with the Deakin University Trans-formUs research. The reporter was very impressed with our wellbeing programs so we will most likely feature again soon!!
SPEECH COMPETITION Each year we are invited to send two students along to the Croydon Rotary speech competitions. I have the difficult role of selecting those two speakers from a larger group of Senior School students who have prepared speeches. What a diffi-cult job that has proved to be! Each of the speeches this year has been outstanding, so selecting the final two will be a challenge!

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Well done to our very own staff Warranwood Netball team who launched their season with a competitive performance in their maiden hit out on Tuesday night. The scores were 22-17 with Warranwood going down in an enthralling encoun-ter. You will be pleased to know that everyone played well and great sportsman-ship was the team mantra! Stay tuned for an update next week on their pro-gress. PS If anyone has a spare 3 hours could they try to explain the rules of netball to Mr Turner so he doesn’t think he is playing on the half back line for Collingwood!
Deakin Alliance Throughout 2016 Warranwood PS and a number of other local primary schools formed an alliance with Deakin Uni-versity to assist with how young teachers are developed. Warranwood staff and university representatives and stu-dents have worked together to explore best practice in teaching numeracy and literacy. On Tuesday this week we started the Technology Infused Literacy Project with 36 Deakin pre-service teachers working in teams throughout different classrooms of the school and getting to know students and school approaches to teaching literacy here at Warranwood. Over the coming weeks the Deakin students will work as expert literacy teams using ICT and specific and targeted online resources to engage and support student-learning goals. The groups have a Reading, Writing or Literature focus and the use of online materials is paramount to the teaching style being investigated.
LEARNING ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL AND HOW THEY LEARN TOPIC - BLENDED LEARNING APPROACH IN MATHS
This Tuesday 26th July 7.30-8.30pm come along and find out about what Blended Learning is and how it makes a
difference to how students learn and in particular how it is happening here at Warranwood in our Senior School. Tea/Coffee and biscuits will be provided. We will meet in the staff room at 7.30 and move to the SENIOR SCHOOL. #DIS1 We would like to take the chance to nominate Deb for all the amazing work she does with stu-dents at Warranwood PS. You make such a huge difference to everyone you work with! Thanks so much Deb
#DIS2 What a difference a day and a team of gardeners make! Have a look at our vegie patch now! Thanks so much Garden Club Gang!
Communication Communities Everyone benefits when there is an open and clear line of communication between school and home to ensure effec-tive and supportive relationships. It is greatly appreciated and valuable when parents notify staff of issues that may impact on learning and happiness here at school. Of course it is a two way street and teachers will communicate with parents when and if issues arise. Please remember to address wonderings/concerns with the teacher directly to en-sure the best outcome for students and ensure any issues are solved and everyone feels valued.
REALM Senior School students were this week enrolled as members of the new REALM resource at Eastland. They can now borrow and access resources digitally to support their learning and research. Thanks to the REALM presenter and Kim Barlow for organising the presentation and arranging for the opportunity to sign up our entire Senior School stu-dent group.
