WAREX 78-15-01

Page 2: Warex 2015

JOINT BASE MC-GUIRE-DIX-LAKEHU-RST, N.J. - More than 4,000 Soldiers from the Army Reserve, National Guard and active duty will participate in a collective training exercise on four separate military installa-tions from Jan. 10 to Jan. 30. “Arctic Lightning” breaks up installation boundary limits, and has active duty and National Guard units participate in an Army Reserve-hosted training exercise. The “Arctic Lightning” Warrior Exercise (WAR-EX) places units in a sim-ulated austere overseas environment. The purpose of the training is for units to practice their technical discipline and warfighting functions while operating in a hostile environment. The 78th Training Divi-

sion, the 75th Training Division and First Army will assess the participat-ing units throughout the exercise. Having units from each of the Army’s components train together as part of the Army’s To-tal Force Policy, mirrors the realities of interdepen-dence during contingency operations. The 78th Training Di-vision, from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, will facilitate the exer-cise using the Decisive Action Training Environ-ment 2.0, a program that uses current intelligence to create authentic train-ing environments from real-world scenarios. The training facilitators and participating units will be assigned to Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, Joint Base Mc-Guire-Dix-Lakehurst, Ab-

erdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland and the Joint Readiness Training Cen-ter at Fort Polk, Louisiana. “A major focus for us is to provide realism for the units assigned to our ex-ercises,” says Brig. Gen. Bruce Hackett, the 78th Training Division com-mander. “We’re breaking barriers by testing a unit’s mettle in a dynamic, cold weather environment for the purpose of enhancing readiness outcomes in an exercise that looks and feels like an overseas op-erational environment.”

For more information about the “Arctic Lightning” exercise, contact the 78th Training Divi-sion Public Affairs, Maj. Sean Casey, [email protected] or 703-717-1549.
