TELL THEM FROM ME

The Tell Them From Me survey (Term 3, 2018) This term, we are participating in the TTFM (Tell Them From Me) Survey: Partners in Learning

Parent Survey on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about

different factors known to impact student wellbeing and engagement. Areas covered include:

communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer

views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. Similar surveys are conducted with staff

and student groups. This valuable feedback gathered assists our school with future planning.

The online survey is completely confidential, can be accessed by smartphones, iPads, tablets,

laptops or computers and takes about 15 minutes or less to complete. The survey will remain open

until 26 October, 2018. Although participation is voluntary, your responses are encouraged and

greatly appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.

CHESS

2018 Central Coast Chess Competition

On Thursday 13th September, 10 students from WPS travelled to Wyong High School to play in the Annual Central Coast Chess Competition. Each student played 6 games in a round robin event. Over 200 students from schools all over the coast attended.

It was a fantastic experience and all the students represented our school proudly. Brock P was lucky enough to receive a trophy for coming 5th for his age group, while our school tied equal second in the teams challenge.

This was a phenomenal achievement and we would like to thank Mr Foyel and all the parents for transporting us for the day.

HELLO FROM THE LIBRARY IN TERM 4, WEEK 1 Grandparents’ Day is coming! (Week 3 Friday 2nd November)

‘Adopt-a-Book’

Research shows that students who read with family members at home achieve improved learning, personal and social outcomes. Grandparents’ Day is the perfect time to share some reading time. Families can participate in our Adopt-a-Book program by making a $10, $20 or $30 donation to the library, selecting books on Grandparents’ Day and borrowing the books to be the first to read them at home.

Books awaiting adoption have been sourced from a wide range of suppliers, ensuring quality, variety and value. There are popular best-sellers and new treasures to discover - see sample lists here. After reading, books will be returned to the library to be shared by all students, leaving your house free of unused books.

Library Bags

K-2 students must use a library bag for borrowing. Some students have been lent a “PLEASE RETURN TO THE LIBRARY” bag but have not yet returned it. Please return borrowed bags promptly so that other students can benefit by being able to use them.

Overdue Library Books

Please return all overdue library books or pay for their replacement costs.

Scholastic Book Club

Scholastic Book Club Issue 7 orders will be sent home today. Orders will close in Week 3 on Friday, 2nd November. Please note that orders received after this date will be processed for home delivery and incur a delivery fee. When you make purchases through Scholastic Book Club, our school benefits from awards points which are used to buy useful resources. Thank you for your ongoing support.

BUS PASSES

School student applications for 2019 are open from Monday, 15 October 2018. Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they: • are continuing at the same school • are residing at the same address • have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW. Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification. Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply. If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued. Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019.
