North campus, I hope you’re doing well. I want to tell you something that we got to do this past week that was really encouraging and really exciting. Our whole staff went over to the new North location on Monday as we started renovation and just got a chance to pray over that building, to pray over the neighborhoods. We are just humbled and excited to see what God has already done and what He’s going to continue to do through our North campus. Once we get that building at the end of the year we haven’t arrived. We’re just getting started. And you guys at our North campus are the tip of the spear for the mission on that side of town. We love you as a church and we’re in your corner. So keep going. I want to say a special hello to some guests that we have in here today with us. At both campuses we have all of our 1 st through 6 th graders in here with us. So I want to talk to just you guys for just a second, both at the North campus and the Northwest campus. Don’t worry; mom and dad aren’t listening to this. Here’s the deal. If you can remember anything about the sermon later today or tomorrow or later on in the week, your mom and dad are going to be so blown away by that, they’ll be so impressed and so excited. So when that happens, here’s what you do. You ask for whatever you want. Ask for whatever you want right then and there. It might not work. I’m not going to promise you anything but I want to set you guys up. Seriously, you guys—1 st through 6 th graders—you guys are such an important part of our church. This is just as much your church as it is your mom’s and dad’s. So we are really, really excited that you are with us today, alright? Hey if you have a Bible go ahead and open it up to James, chapter 3. We’re in the middle of our series going through the Book of James. And if you haven’t noticed yet, James doesn’t really mess around. He gets after it. He’s all about how we live out our faith through the tangible effects of the gospel. James is all about practical application. And for the longest time, for me James just seems like the New Testament version of Proverbs. It’s all about practical application and today in chapter 3 he’s going to shift that application to our tongues. Let’s be honest for a second. The tongue can be a source of embarrassment for us, can’t it? Let me just give you a personal example because if you say that you’ve never been embarrassed by anything that you have said, you’re lying and this sermon really is for you. So let me give a personal example. I will go first because this is a safe place, I hope. Last week Kelly and I had a date night and before we went out she went to the salon. And when she got back home before we went out she said, “Hey, do you notice anything different?” My response, “Yeah,
