Walk Against Hunger The 2013 Foodshare Walk AgainstHunger was an event that touched thehearts of everyone who participated fromSt. Vincent de Paul Middletown! May5, 2013 was a gorgeous sunny afternoon,and we turned out a sea of bright orangewalkers in Hartford that almost made usgiddy with pride to be a part of amovement so visibly strong. We had 37teams and approximately 270 walkers- all from our incredible supporters andbelievers in our work of Meeting Needsand Offering Hope in Middletown! Three cheers for all of our teams, donors,captains and walkers - after all, this was afundraising event! Whether you walked ornot, the financial support for ourefforts totaled $46,531 raised onbehalf of St. Vincent de PaulMiddletown. Of that amount, on June18th, we will receive a check forapproximately $36,000 - 80% of the totalminus some processing fees for onlinedonations. Our community is one thattruly cares for its neighbors in need! Bob Walsh and Gary Frazer co-chairedthe event, and they were assisted byBoard members Jackie Williams andCathie Giuffrida. These four were theorganizers - recruiting team captains,speaking to groups, leading orientations,setting up our table, sending emails - andyou would never know that this was ourfirst year! A special thanks to Bob forbelieving so strongly in us - he just knewthat we'd be super successful and hisenthusiasm and vision carried us to greatheights! The impact of this fundraiser for St.Vincent de Paul as an agency is huge! Aswe were nearing the end of our fiscal year,we were facing a deficit budget. As theneeds in the community grow, so do ourprogram expenses. New sources ofrevenue are hard to find. This fundraiser

helped us to make our budget and to endthe year in the black for the first time inthree years! All in all, the 2013 Walk Against Hungerexceeded expectations, strengthened ourcommunity of support, gave us that lastboost of revenue to reach budget, andwas simply a great and fun day!
