The waddensea is in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands is from North-Holland to Groningen. There are 5 Netherlands Wad islands: Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. The waddensea is 10.000 km².

General

The Wadden Sea is an important habitat for many bird species. Gulls, terns, waders, spoonbills, ducks and geese find their food as they pass over, wintering or breeding on the islands. In the Wadden Sea, two types of seals, harbor seals and gray seals. In the past, these mammals hunted, but today they are protected by law.

Nature

The Islands attract many guests, there are lots of water sports place on the mudflats and mud flats from various places one can. This regularly leads to disruption of the omnipresent animals. On the other hand carries the leisure opportunities in the area to raise awareness of the importance of the Wad.

Recreation

For the shallow water of the Waddenzee and Zuiderzee are separate types of ships developed, with flat bottoms and Lee boards. Today, the Wadden Sea navigated by ferries to the Islands, fishing, boating and traditional sailing cargo ships as clippers, tjalken, Aachen etc. Well-known ports are Oudeschild, Harlingen, Oost-Vlieland, West-Terschelling and Schiermonnikoog, Lauwersoog, Nes, Noordpolderzijl.
