    Increase accidents of breakage or leakage due to urbanization.

    Increase citizens inconvenience.

    Increase the maintenance fee to repair the pipelines.

    Leak rate of the republic of korea 2007 is 12.8% and its loss is about $466million per year.

    Repairing period is about 1520 years. so economic loss will occur periodically.There was the national research project since 2001. its result was released at the

    world water forum 2009 in istanbul, turkey.

    1.3 Smart Pipe System - Concept

    6

    K-Smart Pipe has sensing cables which recognize breakage or leakage of pipelines.

    It has also the function that protects corrosion of pipelines.

    The remote terminal device(RTD-1000) can recognize the event of breakage or leakage and get the distancefrom the device to the event.

    It can also display the event point over the GIS map and alarm the warning message to the operator.

    3. Collecting data of each pipe constructed and inserting them into

    database.

    4. So its possible to confirm progress states of construction at the real field.

    5. After construction, operators can share information of pipes constructed.

    1.3 Smart Pipe System Monitoring Device(RTU)

    1. A remote terminal device(RTD-1000) pays a role to monitor the status of pipelines.

    2. It can get the distance information from its position to the event point and send to the server.

    3. It uses now wire or wireless networks with TCPIP, CDMA, GSM, GPRS protocols and so on.

    4. It can monitor the length of pipeline per a remote terminal device like showing the below table.

    5. There are differences between monitoring lengths depending on the diameter of pipes.

    A pulse wave is sent into a sensorcable and then its echo wave returnsfrom the fault point of the pipe line.So it is possible to detect and findits position. An anti-corrosion solution is alsosupported. It can prevent thecorrosion of the pipe line.
