4 Mark your calendars and invite your friends! Cristiano Rizzotto, a Brazilian organist and concert pianist will perform a FREE ORGAN CONCERT on Thursday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Grace Lu- theran Church, 320 E. Main Street, Man- kato, Minnesota (corner of 4th & Main, downtown). Mr. Rizzotto was born in Rio de Janeiro and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance. In Brazil, he served as organist of the city’s Benedic- tine Abbey, owner of the oldest organ in South Amer- ica and where the tradition of the chants and liturgy has been kept fresh and alive by the Carioca monks since the 16th century. Someone ‘With Skin On’ My 3-year-old nephew was having a hard time fal- ling asleep at Grandma’s house, so my mom lay down beside him for a while. As she started to ease out of the room, his eyes flew open. “You’re safe,” she re- minded him. “Jesus is always with you.” “I know, Grandma,” he protested, “but I want some- one with skin on!” That reminded me of a quote by theologian Freder- ick Beuchner: “Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside some- body else’s skin.” God came to us as Jesus—someone “with skin on”—so we would know He understands what it’s like to live inside our skin. Now as Jesus’ body in the world, we’re often called on to be some- one “with skin on” to others. Indeed, we’re to show them such compassion that we could just as well be wearing their skin. ~Heidi Mann, The NEWSLETTER Newsletter, July 2014 W W WEEKLY EEKLY EEKLY EEKLY C C CALENDAR ALENDAR ALENDAR ALENDAR -Trinity Lutheran Church and Faribault Lutheran School Staff - Rev. ahead as Vern recovers. To help the family cover ex-penses we are planning a benefit garage sale. This will be in the gym at Trinity, Thursday through Saturday, July 24-26. Hours are Thurs. and Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sat. 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. You may drop off items for the sale Mon. - Wed. July 21-23 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the gym at Trinity. We are looking for household items, furniture, lawn and garden decor, toys, games, books etc. Please no clothing or electron-ics. All items must be clean and in good condition. If you do not have items for the garage sale but would like to help with this benefit, cash donations are being accepted at the church office. If you have any ques-tions please contact Diane Cloeter at 334-2346 or Mike Young at 330-0326. As we get closer to the event, we will be in need of volunteers to help price and set up; please let Diane or Mike know if you can help. We look forward to working together with you as we show our love, concern and support for Vern, Becca and Abby.

The doorbells are complete at the west church en-trance doors—one at the west glass narthex doors and one at the west service entrance. During evening meeting hours, when there is no one in the offices to buzz you in, these doors can be kept locked for secu-rity reasons and the doorbells will announce your presence to people inside who will let you in. Signs are located on the doors, pointing out the proper but-ton to push.

Mandy Blume, Parish Nurse, is having a moving sale on Saturday, July 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. She is looking for

helpers to set it up, post signs, help customers during the

sale, and load the unsold items up to drop off at church for the rummage sale. Items are already priced; they just need to be set up that morning. She promises to greet you with a big smile, a delicious breakfast before starting, a nutritious lunch to help you refuel, and lots of gratitude. Volunteers would need to come very early (around 6:30 a.m.) She needs to know if you will be able to help by July 7, so please RSVP to 333-2748 or 507-412-0865. Also, if you have old news-papers and extra plastic shopping bags, please bring them to use for bagging customers’ purchases. Thank you for your help!

Stewardship Every Sunday

Matthew 9:35-10:8 “Freely you have received, freely give,” were among the words that Jesus spoke to His twelve disciples as He sent them out to minister to the deepest needs of peo-ple. God is so lavish in His giving of good things to His people. His intent is that they be wise managers of these gifts, using them in a way which provides bless-ings and benefits to many people, not just to the privi-leged ones who have received those gifts. Christian stewards are to be like conduits of God’s blessings, gratefully receiving them, and allowing them to flow through their words and actions to bring benefits to family members, friends, and others whose lives they touch. The disciples were given the authority to drive out evil spirits and heal every disease and sickness in addition to sharing the good news of the kingdom. What a powerful reminder to us as Christian stewards to pay attention not only to the spiritual needs of peo-ple, but to their physical needs as well.

Summer Choir will sing at the 8:00 a.m. service this Sunday, July 6. Rehearsal of songs will take place at 7:40 a.m. on that day. Any and all singers are welcome to participate.

BRINGIN’ THE KINGDOM STORM Camp is Coming!

July 28-August 1

Service To Others in Relational Ministry is a week long service camp for teenagers and adults sponsored by 4th Avenue UMC, Minnesota UMC Conference Camping and STORM Ministries. STORM is returning to Fari-bault for the second year! During the last week of July, 50 teenagers and 12 adults will serve Jesus by serving others in Rice County. The group will be based at 4th Ave. UMC church building. Work the STORM Campers can do includes painting, yard work, construction (ramps), repair, house clean-ing, wood splitting and stacking, demolition and almost anything else. We are now gathering our job list for the week of July 28. If you or a family member or a friend could use some help, please give us a call. We like to spend the whole day at one place and can do a variety of tasks during the day. The sooner you get your request in, the more likely we will be able to help. Please call or email Rann Loppnow at 507-421-3877 ([email protected]), or Kelly Landsverk at 507-334-3202 or 507-330-2840 ([email protected]) to make a request for a STORM Camp Team to serve you. We hope to serve 60 families during the week. Please call today!
