VW Action is the longest running VW Show in the UK, andhas in one form or another been the true ‘Jewel in the Crown’of UK VW events, from its early days at Stoneleigh, theNAS Stoneleigh shows, the period of its residency atPeterborough, at Herts County Showground, and now atSanta Pod. The last four years at ‘The Pod’ have producedquite exceptional shows, and 2011 will continue the greattradition of VW Action delivering the absolute best event forthe true VW enthusiast. VW Action is a show to which peopleare happy to bring their young family members, and yetwhich provides full on entertainment for all of its visitors,whatever their age or interests. Every year VW Action has atheme, and this year it is ‘Ninjas & Pirates’. Yes, Saturdayevening is the 2011 VW Action ‘Ninjas & Pirates Party’ -Jensen D Groover’s Dance and Indie Anthems, along withsexy dance troop - The Narni Shakers as Pirate Wenches.But more than anything else, VW Action is about the cars.Action is one of few shows which is truly about everythingVolkswagen, and the event welcomes the arrival of everyVAG vehicle with equal enthusiasm. Please be assured we take theShow & Shine very seriously at VW Action and thisformat has been arrived at over many hours’deliberation, by judges whose only concern is tosee that the most deserving vehicles are rewardedwith a trophy. There are also trophies for Best Paint,Best Interior, Best Engineering, etc. that will becontested across all four categories. Enter on theday (Sunday) - no pre-registration required. EUROPE’S MOST BEAUTIFUL VWHaving been reintroduced in 2007, after many yearsabsence, the ‘Europe’s Most Beautiful VW’ Rose-bowl Trophy is to be contested again for 2011. Allof the trophy’s previous winners have been truelyastounding vehicles and we hope this trendcontinues. We will also offer European cars assistedpassages to the UK for the Rose-bowl trophycompetition, which could well be a straight contestbetween the winners of each of the four categoriesin the VW Action Show & Shine.

VW ACTION OLYMPICS(Inter-Club Games) – 2.00pm SaturdayDo you find laughing at the misfortune of othersunacceptable? Best not check out the VW ActionOlympics then, because amongst most spectators,that seems to be the point. Comedy moments seemto fill the club games from beginning to end. The VWAction Olympics will be contested between the first 8registered teams or clubs, and each member of everyteam will receive a medal at the conclusion of thegames. All disciplines take place at 2.00pm onSaturday, so please register your team at theInformation Centre before this time and be at the‘Olympics/Club Games Arena’ for 1.45pm on Saturday.BUG PUSHAs is customary, teams of 5 are required to pushthe Brad’s ‘Raffle’ Car over a timed distance.Quickest over the course wins.PENALTY SHOOTOUTTeams of 5, you know the drill - beat the goalie andscore - it’s easier than it looks though.OBSTACLE COURSEA big inflatable obstacle to clamber over againstthe clock... all five of you. CONCOURS COMPETITIONSFEATURING ‘EUROPE’S MOSTBEAUTIFUL VW’VW Action has always been at the forefront of Show& Shine/Concours events. For many years Actionhas been a leader, not a follower. A few years ago,the show broke with the tradition of a class basedstructure, for one simple, very good reason. Toomany great cars were leaving without a trophy,especially in the most hotly contested classes. The‘Top Twenty’ format at Action has now been takenup by many other shows, as it is the means bywhich the greatest number of deserving cars arerewarded with a trophy.

The scale of the VW Action show and shinehowever, means that there are separate ‘top twenty’prizewinners for Air Cooled and Water Cooled cars.The Show & Shine Concours takes place on Sunday,with Saturday being reserved for the ‘EDV’ (EveryDay Vehicle), a trailer queen free zone, exclusivelyfor cars which see regular use on the road. Noneof the show car competitions at VW Action have anentry charge, so if your car attracts admiringglances, be sure to enter in the appropriate freeShow & Shine competition.

EVERYDAY VEHICLE CONCOURSSaturday Morning Assembly - 2.45pm returnto arena for Trophy Presentation

This will be the thirteenth Everyday Vehicle Show& Shine competition. The number and quality ofentrants has increased over the years to the pointthat we have had to increase the number of trophiesto 20, offering 10 for WATER COOLED vehicles and10 for AIR COOLED.

Our judges have all built trophy traps, but recognisethe different considerations involved in ‘daily drivers’.If your vehicle is your everyday transport then it’snot expected to be flawless, so don’t be shy. In thiscompetition especially, cars that are genuinely‘everyday transport’ often win out over cars that areimmaculate but are questionably in ‘frequent’ use.We would not discourage anyone from taking part,but please, if you don’t win anything try again onSunday. Entry in this event is a MUST if you are proudof your VW.

CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE/SHOW & SHINESunday Morning Assembly - 2.45pm returnto arena for Trophy Presentation.The concours display area will be divided intofour sections:STANDARD AIR COOLEDSTANDARD WATER COOLEDMODIFIED/CUSTOM AIR COOLEDMODIFIED/CUSTOM WATER COOLED

There are specific instructions issuedto judges, which basically deal withlevelling the playing field in respectof older or rarer vehicles. (Levelling,not favouring, just giving dueconsideration to all factors.) TheJudges for each of the four categorieswill be selecting ten vehicles in eachof the Custom classes and five in theStandard classes.

VW Action 16 and under Show & ShineSunday only - the VW Action Show & Shine willinclude a display of ‘vehicles’ owned by 16s andunder - VW owners of the future. Vehicles enteredfor this class can be bikes, pedal cars, scoots, cartssuch as radio flyers, tot rods - in fact any wheeled‘transport’. We were highly encouraged by thenumbers and quality in the last three years and hopeto see even greater numbers this year. This is agreat opportunity for the younger enthusiast to beactively involved. Trophies will be awarded in twoclasses, covering all and any vehicles. They are‘under 11s’ and ‘under 17s’. Please bring your ‘ride’to the Show & Shine Arena by midday Sunday -there is no display of this class on Saturday. Thismeans that you have all of Saturday to perhapsarrange for some pinstriping detail, courtesy of ourresident stripers and polish and clean your ‘rides’.Potential Exhibitors/Parents please note entry is ‘onthe day’. Entry forms, which will be supplied inthe Show & Shine arena by the marshalls, must befully completed and attached to the vehicle.

The Cycle Show & Shine, is open to anyone (allages) wishing to display their lowrider bikes, beachcruisers, or choppers (including derivatives). Sincea number of people use two wheels to cruise theevent venue, we have decided that in recognitionof the ingenuity and engineering skills on display,we’d like to assemble the best examples in oneplace. Two trophies - ‘Runner-Up’ and ‘Best Of Show’- with the ‘Best Of Show’ winning the SchwinnGrey Ghost too. There will be a preview lineup ofbikes on Saturday in front of the POI CIRCUSSTAND. The lineup will be reassembling on Sundayand judging will ONLY take place on the Sunday.

ACTION RULES OKGUIDELINES & REGULATIONS FORA SAFE AND ENJOYABLE WEEKEND

1. Ten mph on site please, anyone ‘speeding’ or drivingin a dangerous manner will be evicted. No warning,no refund, no messing.

2. No bonfires/camp fires but barbies are OK as long asthey’re raised off the ground.

3. Noise curfew is at midnight. Any unauthorised soundsystems will be confiscated - we’re not being Nazis -VW Action is a family event - please respect yourneighbours and let them get some sleep.

4. Help us to keep the site clean and tidy, please use thebins and rubbish bags handed to you upon arrival.VW Action Information Centre has more if required.

5. Stay out of restricted areas. Please observe signage.6. No driving on site (apart from arrival). No parking on

the roadways. All exits and access points must bekept clear. Rikki James, this includes YOU!

7. Please keep valuables locked in your car or on yourperson. Sadly, large events attract scumbags too.

8. Medical assistance can be found in the area adjacentto the VW Action Information Centre.

9. No ‘unauthorised’ trading on site.10. No glass bottles, fireworks or pets on site please.11. No mopeds, go-peds, monkey bikes, or similar to be

used on site.12. Security are your friends - but they can’t be

everywhere. If you see something suspicious orsomeone causing upset, please tell Security. Betterto deal with things immediately than moaning on aninternet forum three days later.

Any vehicles should bebehind your marked plot, please do not take up thespace beside your plot with a vehicle. If you arebrowsing, make sure that you are there early eachday for the best bargains. The purpose of theautojumble is the sale of garage clearout/surplusitems, not trade sellers, who at our discretion willbe asked to pay a surcharged trade stand rate orbe asked to leave the autojumble area.

VW ACTION CARS FOR SALE AREAVW Action is the perfect event to buy or sell yourcar with a very full ‘Cars For Sale’ area every year.

Sellers - This you DO pay for, but it’s just a fiver forall weekend and that £5 goes to Brad’s CancerFoundation. So please come to the InformationOffice, (see map below for location) purchase a‘Cars for Sale’ voucher, place it in your windscreen,and park up in the designated cars for sale area.

Cars without a voucher will be moved.

CLUB CAMPING & DISPLAYSWe are expecting all the clubs represented at VWAction to be proud enough to put on a good showin their allotted area. Sure there are plenty of clubsbooking camping areas, but a decent line up of carsand a bit of a theme going on is what we have givenover CLUB DISPLAY space for. The display spaceswill be established alongside the Show & Shine on

The originalVW Action Auction is made possible largely by thegenerosity of traders at the show, who provide itemsfree, and therefore every penny raised by the auctiongoes directly to Brad’s Cancer Foundation. It is agreat place to get a bargain, and at the same timehelp a good cause. If any individuals or clubs haveitems to offer for auction they would also be gratefullyreceived at the VW Action Information Office.

CUSTOMISE YOUR PASSIONIn aid of Brad’s Cancer FoundationThe VW Action Charity Auctions on behalf ofBrad’s Cancer Foundation always receive amassive response from those who donate ‘lots’and from those who bid on them. The auctionshave also inspired many to get involved andcreate unique lots for the auction. Perhapswith a Ninja or Pirate theme?If you are big into skateboarding, maybe acustom decorated or even custom built deck - ifyou are a musician, maybe a customisedinstrument. (eg: basic ukuleles are pretty cheap.)If you have great artistic skills, maybe a piece ofVW inspired art. Whatever floats your boat really.The idea is for you to take a basic item and customise,design, paint, stripe, encrust in diamonds, orwhatever other creative concept appeals to you.Concept wise, the only limit is your imagination. It’sfor a great cause, so, please go for it!Please bring your masterpiece to the show, andhand it in to the VW Action Information Centrewhen you arrive.

PINSTRIPING SEMINARSThe hugely popular pinstriping workshop/seminarsare presented by Simon ‘Nefarious’ Pollock. He willwork on pretty much anything you bring to him.For example number plate surrounds, glovebox lids, light housings, cooler boxes, are allexamples of items which could be striped withoutyou bringing a complete vehicle. Alternatively ofcourse, you could pay real close attention duringthe seminars, which would give you a jump onbecoming the next Kenneth ‘Von Dutch’ Howard.Please check the timetable for seminar timings.

CAMPERVAN COOKOFFSunday NoonThe Campervan Cookoff at VW Action 2010, sawMichelle Edwards taking the ‘CampervanMasterchef’ title. The marquee was pretty packed,and the VW Action Cookoff was a huge success,enjoyed by all, but particularly by the Judges. It isa ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ style competition, wherecontestants have to cook up a gourmet meal in theircampers, with all contestants being provided withthe same ingredients for a maximum of 6competitors/teams. The ingredients are listed onthe VW Action website. To take part this year, youwill need to have registered at the VW ActionInformation Office before entries close on Sundayat 11.00am, although if you are reading this inadvance of the show, you can always book yourplace in the competition by email via the ContactUs page at www.vwaction.co.uk, stating that youwish to be reserved a spot in the ‘VW ActionCampervan Cookoff’. You will of course need yourown Campervan with cooking facilities.

POI CIRCUS WORKSHOPThree shows on Saturday, two shows on Sunday -in the Trade Area. At other periods during the day,

circus skills training is available foranyone who wants to learn. You’dbe a clown not to join in. Theworkshops are for completebeginners, so you won’t beembarrassed. DRAGSTRIP ACTIONVW Action now truly lives up to its name, with alarge field of extremely quick race and street VWs.This year VW Action is expecting to see the CalLook, Pro Street and full-on Race VWs of JG54Greenhearts, SAS Rennwagens, AircooledEliminators and the VWDRC join the guys from DASand Holland during the Night Racing session andthroughout Sunday. The VW Bus fraternity will berepresented by BWA, USB and TORQ. The NightRacing session also features a prize fund of at least£3000 to be split amongst the QUICKEST 10 CARSand QUICKEST 5 BUSES in this session.

Thishas been made possible by the fact that VW Actionis the week before the ‘FIA European Finals’, and anumber of these Pro V8 cars have taken theopportunity to get some testing in before they racein earnest the following weekend.RUN WHAT YOU BRUNGThroughout Saturday you will be able to test andtune your OWN CAR on the dragstrip, during the‘Run What You Brung’ (RWYB) sessions, justremember to bring your driving licence. There is anadditional ‘signing on’ fee to take part in this activity.

PODZILLA MONSTER TRUCK SHOWPodzilla will becrushing everything inits path on bothSaturday and Sunday,to give a few ‘tired’saloon cars a fittingend. It is a showabsolutely not to be

missed. (No VWs will be harmed in the presentationof this spectacle.) For the technophiles, The PodzillaMonster Truck is a Chevrolet CK1500 body,powered by a methanol guzzling supercharged502 cubic inch (8.2 litre) Chevrolet V8 developing1350 horsepower. He weighs in at around 10,000pounds.



OFF-ROAD ACTIONThe off-road course has now moved from itsprevious location to the ‘pit’ side of the dragstrip.The area will be operating when marshalled bymembers of the BAJACLUB.CO.UK during thedaytime, and will be available for public use, butonly in suitably constructed vehicles, bajas,buggies, rails etc and VW-only. RADIO CONTROLLED DRAG RACINGThis was first trialled at Big Bang and VW Action2009 and has been a resounding success since.Open to anyone to come along and experience theexcitement of Drag Racing only in miniature (1/10thscale to be precise), from all ages and skill levels.Signing on will be from 10.00am both Saturdayand Sunday, with racing commencing from11.00am. The track will be set up in the MonsterTruck Arena. (Please see www.vwaction.co.ukfor full details and specs of R/C cars.)

BRAD’S PIRATE TREASURE HUNTIn 2009 many people bade farewell to the ‘Chop ShopGangster Car’ in their own way, ‘giving it a whack forBrads’. This helped the show raise a substantial sum forthe charity. 2010 saw ‘Brad’s Buckaroo’ raise more moneyas folk tried to stack the most boxes on the roofrack of aBug (along the lines of the MB Games Buckaroo game.)Shiver me timbers! For 2011 we have a ‘Pirate Treasure Hunt’.Firmly aimed at the kids, the idea being that participants gofrom point to point all over the site receiving clues to getthem to the next clue until finally finding the ‘treasure’. The‘Treasure Maps’ (instructions) can be purchased at the Brad’sCancer Foundation trade stand throughout each day of theshow for £5 and we guarantee that each piece of treasurewill be worth at least £2 (thereby raising £3 a time for Brad’saaarrr!) - great fun WITH the kids - or send them off withtheir friends to search for the treasure, me hearties!Please also check out the BRAD’S CHARITY AUCTION.
