THE BLEEDING HEART OF JESUSmessage is for you.

If you want to walk in holiness with God, serving Him with a pure heart, this message is for you.

“No gift God has given us is more important than the blood of Jesus Christ.” Yet many of us do not fully comprehend the power of the blood.

Blood is so important to God that it is mentioned in the Bible around 700 times. David referred it to the “incorruptible” blood. Peter spoke of the “precious” blood, and John wrote of the “overcoming” power of the blood.

Every Christian's testimony has the same beginning; it began on the cross of Jesus Christ. The shed blood of Jesus Christ is the most important part of any testimony. Without His blood, we have no testimony.

Without the blood of Jesus, we are defenceless against the devil and his works. Yes, it's good to have zeal and do good works.

It's good to have a high degree of morality and a strong devotional life. But none of those things alone can cleanse, heal, or protect you. When it comes to your forgiveness and cleansing, your healing, protection, and deliverance, God is still looking at the blood!

Today, Nike and Coke imbed their commercial campaign with such affirmations to sell sneakers and sugary drinks. But can one imagine an

men lying on the ground bleeding and dying in battle; some on the hill tops, some in the countryside, and some in the cities. I was overwhelmed. Today, contemplating on the Heart of Jesus, for the first time in my life I truly understood the cost of freedom. The price of freedom is blood.

The scene of Jesus bleeding on the cross is a moment frozen in time that affects everything in the universe.

We hear from so many people that are struggling. People are in battles - physically, mentally, and spiritually. Some have become entangled with sin again and are not sure how to get free and stay free.

immigrant, two hundred years ago, running from a totalitarian state to a nation whose government guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? There was nothing in the world more radical. More insane. More Christ-like.

What others view as tolerance for immorality, the bible calls grace.

What some view as socialism, the bible calls loving your neighbour.

What some call weakness, the bible calls humility. What others call the welfare state, the bible calls

compassion. What easily is venomously referred to as liberalism,

can easily be called Christian because grace, love, humility and compassion are values Jesus possessed and espoused.

A “little Christ” nation should be the same. It's the most Christ like way. And as a “little Christ”, it is our duty, our obligation, and our honor to at least try.

We Catholics need to be identified with Jesus as persons with bleeding hearts. It is a badge of honour.

When Jesus was being executed he seemed ineffective. But the effects of his life and of his association with outcasts outlasted the Empire under which he was put to death.

During this month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I would encourage you to meditate on the bleeding heart of Christ. Jesus' Heart still bleeds, feels for us, every moment of our lives. Ponder his goodness, his mercy, his justice, his courage, and his sufferings. Contemplate what he loves, what he hates, and what he desires. And most of all, consider his self-emptying and self-sacrificing love for you.

Then, ask him humbly to make your heart bleed like his own.

And lastly, I ask you to reflect on the words of this favourite hymn of mine, with a little change in the end,

To be like Jesus, To be like Jesus,All I ask is to be like him,Not in a measure, but in His Fullness,All I ask is, To 'Bleed' like Him.

A New Beginning – Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) 2016 – 19- Kimberly Rowe

In a dynamic world, the only constant is change. Change is an inevitable in the forward march of human civilization and every change heralds a new beginning. And so it shall be with the constitution of the

Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) for the period June 2016 to May 2019. But every new beginning is also a continuum, and must be viewed as merely the next leg of a relay where the baton has been passed on by the previous athlete. The transition from one Council to its successor is seamless, and the elements may well be nearly indistinguishable, although the results will be evolutionary given that progression is the essence of human endeavor. What's new and what can you expect from your PPC representative?

The MissionThe Parish Mission statement: 'Witnessing Christ

Towards Transforming Community' is succinct and immensely meaningful. Delving deep into the import of this mission, we discover four essential elements that could form the super-structure not just for the PPC but for all of us, the People of God.

Worship God in joyous celebration of the Mass, Sacraments and Prayers;

VProclaim the Word of God to all people;

VWitness the love and redemptive healing of Christ;

VServe those in need in Church and societyThe PPC and the Faithful have the responsibility of

working as a team, as a body, for first filling our hearts with the love of Christ, our Redeemer and Savior and then, taking Christ to our family, our relatives and friends, our workplaces, those Catholics alienated from Christ, those who do not know Christ and our neighbors.

AspirationsThe Council is the representative body of the

Community Members (You) who constitute the Church. The Council exists to serve your aspirations and work towards the common objective defined in the mission statement. Elsewhere in this publication, you will find the aspirations voiced by each member of the newly elected Parish Pastoral Council. You too must formulate for yourself, your own aspiration and m a k e c o n s t r u c t i v e suggestions to your SCC C o o r d i n a t o r s o r A n i m a t o r s o r P P C representatives to enliven our spiritual experiences, and enrich our lives and

those of our neighbors in furtherance of our Mission. The Holy SpiritTo quote Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, the French

philosopher, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” And so, the PPC shall continue to be guided by and draw strength from the grace and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. We shall invoke the Holy Spirit with heart, mind and soul, to infuse each Council member, to play her/his role in a constructive way, with open minded discernment, remembering always that the collective wisdom of the Council, and not individual or community wisdom, shall be the lynch-pin of Parish pastoral activities, and common good the ultimate goal.

A Participative ChurchLike every other Parish, our Parish is also

comprised of diverse faithful. We are all God's people and that is an essence that the Council shall endeavor to hold foremost; recognizing diversity of age, gender, language, ethnicity, etc. From Apostolic times, the Catholic Church has welcomed diversity from across the proverbial seven seas. The word 'Catholic' means 'universal' and the Councils have, over the years, striven to create a feeling of belonging among all of you, afford you an opportunity to show-case your talents, skills and gifts for the greater glory of God. You can contribute to making the Parish far more vibrant by seizing every opportunity to participative actively in Parish and Community activities that are initiated by the Council. The Council is here to invite you and to open the door, but you have to accept the invitation.

Your PPC RepresentativesYou believed in your representatives and so you

elected them. What are the qualities that you visualized in your representative?

FDesire for spiritual growth;

FHolding the mission of the Parish paramount;

FTo be a role model for your Community;

FInvesting time, and focused energy with unconditional love for pastoral activities - spiritual, social and cultural;

FThe ability to listen and articulate views;

FMaturity in interpersonal relations and acceptance of better wisdom;

The characteristics of representatives of the Parish Pastoral Council could be summarized in 6 words – Prayerful , Pastoral, Representative, Discerning, Responsive and Enabling.

COMPASSION IN THE DIGITAL AGE- P. RUFUS, Sector-10A

Let's for a moment imagine a biblical scene. A busy market square. There is some commotion within a crowd of people. Shrieks of a woman could be heard. Jesus comes by. He wades through the crowd. At the center, He finds a woman wailing and bleeding. She is being stoned for adultery. What would He have done? Firstly, He would have yelled at the stoners and stopped the pelting. He would have done it effectively. He might have pushed back a few stoners and questioned them about their own righteousness. The others would have taken the cue, dropped the stones and slipped away. Leaving Jesus comforting the woman, tending to her wounds in public, and also giving her the opportunity and grace to mend her ways. Would Jesus have behaved any differently, if it had been a priest instead of that woman? Because in this case, the stones get bigger. This may be a relevant question to ponder, especially in the church's turbulent times of today.

In today's digital world, shame and punishment don't happen by stoning. It's far worse, even if nothing is proven yet, and there is only allegation or suspicion. Even before fair trial, the pelting begins through mouse-clicks and texting. The internet, social media and TV wield incredible power to damage a person's reputation; sweeping aside a lifetime of good work. It's much worse than stoning in a public square. If one is in public life/ministry, just one indiscretion, big or small, is enough. Should it come to light, news channels and print media swarm over, setting off millions of clicks and texting reverberating across the globe. There is no personal space left for the victim any longer. Like the swelling market crowd, everyone invades to either defame or just watch the shaming. And the shaming gets so viral that the victim is socially text-pelted a hundred times more than the adulterous woman in that market square. And all the clicks and text-pelting happen from the cosy comfort and privacy of air-conditioned homes and offices. The digital shaming can get so viciously remorseless, that it has driven people to suicide. Only a few survive.

A surviving victim, a former White House intern, has lived to tell her story about the aftermath of her indiscretion with her boss. Not uncommon in the corporate world. But in her case, the boss happened to be the president of her country. He could rehabilitate himself completely from social defamation, and return to respectable public life. But for her, for an indiscretion so common with teenagers in their

twenties, the world over, the price was too heavy. The digital pelting that followed, painted such worst character on her, that anyone in the world, merely bearing common surname with her, felt socially awkward! And it's not just shame. There is commerce too. Digital advertising also feeds on shame. More clicks, more shame. The greater the shame, the more numerous the clicks, and more advertising money...until the victim, even repentant, is digitally bled to a social carcass. It's like stationing commercial hoardings at the location of stone-pelting at the market square. Very few victims survive this sanely.

What would Jesus do with a laptop or smart device today? It would be exactly what we imagined of Him in the market square incident. However, it would be for us to play His part using initiatives that include mouse, keyboard, smartphone or tablet. How can Christian compassion deal with digital cruelty? And where does one draw the line? Soon after the horrendous Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984, the nation was still reeling under shock and dismay. The afflicted people were justifiably anguished at the spreading blindness and death. Compensation attorneys in Samaritan guise came hearse-chasing to make their cut. As the nation was trying to make sense of it all, Mother Teresa's opinion

was sought. In her inimitable calmness, she asked the people to forgive the enormous accident. This infuriated many to the point of slandering her, even to the extent of linking her birth nationality with western interests. Very few may have realised that she was not indifferent to the Indian tragedy. If anything, her reaction was not only Christ-like, but also of Gandhian character in sadness, just like after the Jallianwala massacre during India's freedom struggle.

What can we do as ordinary Christians, when someone is enormously shamed for an inadvertence? At times, it could even be a priest. It could be someone we know, or even someone we do not know personally (did Jesus know the adulterous woman?). Maybe it's a friend or acquaintance suffering social blogs. What could we do as individuals or institutions? Would we opt to take a position of political correctness or moral loftiness and speak out 'zero tolerance' and publicly pelt out 'punishment' according to law? Or would we, while first sympathising and reaching out to the victims of inadvertness, also take compassionate, corrective measures, showing dignity due to even a sinner—just as Jesus did? The answer lies in an examination of conscience—whether individual, society or church.

“Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown Mercy”(Matt 5:7)

- OSCAR GOMES, Sector–6

This is the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy announced by our Pope Francis which started on 8th December 2015 and will end on 20th November 2016.

The tradition of celebrating Jubilee years is rooted in the Old Testament where every 50th year a kind of restart had to happen: releasing of slaves, cancellation of debts, restitution of land and property sold in times of distress. In a similar way the institution of the sabbatical year obliged the Israelites to let the land rest every seventh year in order to get back its original fertility and productive capacity after a time of rest.

Likewise the Jubilee Year of Mercy wants us to take time of rest and regeneration in order to recommence our reconciliation with God and others. It will help us to rid of old burdens which hinder us from going forward in freedom and joy. A Jubilee Year is not a year of accounts and reckoning, but rather a year of mercy and compassion and liberation. It is an opportunity to examine our personal life where old debts and hidden anger are waiting to be deleted or healed.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation during the year of Mercy

The Sacrament of reconciliation is not a short cut to obtain a “cheap grace”. It requires in our heart an act of real penance, which we should not confuse with the “penance” the Priest is giving us before the absolution. Penance means making a U-turn where we have gone the wrong way and to show it in acts of reparation wherever it is possible. Therefore our Confession should never degenerate to a kind of “rapid bleaching” without a deeper process of reconversion to God. This process requires personal sacrifices joined with humility and concrete actions of reparation. Only then the generous mercy of God can fully develop its strength and beauty.

It is within this context that we recollect the parable of the Prodigal Son. The parable of the Prodigal Son is

shocking. We had a new insight of this parable in the homily preached on the 1st Sunday of March at the 9.00 a.m. mass. We were drawn into a new perspective, the anguish of the mother of the Son. We had never considered this mother as important and this homily made the faithful thoughtful.

Look at the father. The humiliation by the younger son does not change the father's love. He has not given up his son. He sees his son returning at the distance runs in his long robe does not wait for his confession, but simply reinstalls him as 'his son'.

The year of Mercy is an occasion to reflect on our own life in the light of this parable. Most of us will identify ourselves with the Prodigal son, because we all feel and behave like him. Anger is not the last word, because God acts not only as the just, but as the God of Mercy.

This year is an excellent chance to look with the eyes of Jesus around us and to behave accordingly.

It is the purpose of the year of Mercy to rediscover the love of the Father revealed in Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Accept Mercy and offer mercy, because there are situations where we have to offer mercy and reconciliation: husband and wife, parents and children, Priests and lay people, then competing groups within the parishes, colleagues at the workplace.

We can be merciful only if we are compassionate. This we can learn from Our Lady standing under the cross of her son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

We will end with the moving words of the Hymn - which can be prayed in a spirit of Faith, Hope and Love – the Stabat Mater

O thou Mother Fount of Love!Touch my spirit from aboveMake my heart with thine accordLet me share with thee His painWho for all our sins was slainWho for me in torments diedBy the Cross with thee to stayThere with thee to weep and pray Is all I ask of thee to give

WORLD PEACE – A DREAM

Discussion of whether world peace will remain only

a dream, a Utopian ideal, a Promised Land lying just

around the next corner, must recognize the inescapably

sorrowful truth that relationships between human

beings are coloured and driven by imperfect behaviour.

Given that human nature is riddled with flaws, it

becomes a sina qua non that the institutions –the State –

established by human beings will be imperfect. Every

human being professes a yearning for peace but the

actions of individuals make fulfillment of this wish all

but impossible. Morgenthau argues that a human being

should not be regarded as a mere “product of nature but

as both the creature and the creator of history in and

through which his individuality and freedom of choice

manifest themselves.”

Whereas, at the individual

level, personal glory and

personal vendetta may be

the imperatives for actions,

at a collective level, the

elemental criteria are power

(political and military),

nationalism, and freedom;

armed conflict is accepted

as a legitimate means to achieve a desirable end.

Politics is essentially the graduation of the struggle for

domination at the individual level to an institutional

level. Given the fundamentally iniquitous nature of

human beings, are we to conclude that world peace is

destined to remain in the realms of a dream world? And

what are the contours of the paradigm that will shape a

world of peace? To define peace as merely the absence of conflict

between nation and nation would, in the post modern

world, be restrictive. Conventionally, historians have

viewed war as armed conflict between one state and

another. That is now passé. The attack by Al-Quaeda on

American soil was the most significant exhibition of the

power wielded by non-state actors in perpetrating

violence. Increasingly, the theatres of war have come to

be dominated by such outfits that have no sanction

either from elected government or otherwise to wage

war. Democracies are, by their very structure and

philosophy, inherently peaceful establishments.

Having been popularly elected, leaders of democracies

owe allegiance to no particular individual and decisions

are taken after a consultative process. The democratic

process is also marked by systemic checks and balances

that forestall impulsive, heat of the moment, bigoted

actions that could have undesirable repercussions.

History reveals that democratically elected

governments have rarely, if ever, waged war against

each other. While it is true that conflicts of interest

arise, in the first place, because of the pursuit of selfish

interests, the democratic mechanisms offer a via media

that would lead to discovery of a median path, one that

promotes cooperation and the furtherance of long term

mutual benefits rather than

short term gains. Certainly,

this boosts the possibilities

of an amicable resolution of

conflict and enhances the

prospect of peace.G r a d u a l i s m a n d

perseverance are the secret

to triumph. The road will

doubtless be long but the

journey will be well worth

it. The criticality lies in striking an equilibrium between

what is ethically desirable and morally ideal with what

is politically feasible. Especially, in the early days, the

pioneering nations and leaders must have the maturity

to compromise and exhibit willingness to reset targets

and goals. Unless, the cynics, sceptics and

misanthropes are treated and see themselves as equals,

peace will not last. Peace is not “an armistice in a war”

(Thucydides 436 BC) but a virtue, a state of mind, a

disposition for benevolence, confidence and justice

(Baruch Spinoza). Belief in the fundamental goodness

of man, his consciousness of good and evil, his ability

and willingness to change for the better, to choose a life

of peace rather than one of violence must mark the

beginning of the process. The sands of time are running out.

Before it is too late, human kind must accept

that “There is no way to peace. Peace is the

way.” (A.J.Muste).

A GOLDEN COUPLE

REMEMBERING WILLY SOARES

- MAUREEN LOBO

"A beautiful life does not just happen - it is built daily by love, prayer, humility, sacrifice and hard work".

50 years ago in St Michael's Church Mahim, as Francis Lewis and his radiant bride Martha walked down the aisle, he whispered in her ear "Darling, grow old along with me, the best is yet to be ".

Today, happily surrounded by children, Belinda, Jason, Jupiter, their spouses and grandchildren, the Lewis' are a contended couple, in peace with the world.

Recounting their early days in Saudi Arabia where religious practices were not easy, they are grateful for the freedom they experience in Vashi. Francis, a specialist, Cross Country “X-Ray” Pipeline Welder in the Oilfield Industry, by profession was sent to Germany, England and Bahrain by his American Company. He has also travelled all over India on work.

Martha, loathe to keep her infant children in crèches, decided to be a stay-at-home mum, giving Hindi tuitions and started a Day Care centre. She kept the home fire burning while Francis often worked overtime.

When they moved to Vashi, Francis was proud to don the mantle of a house-husband. Martha did a Beautician Course and took her hobby of cooking seriously. Many parishioners will vouch for Martha's

delicious food. Today, she has inculcated the love of cooking in her sons. Her daughter-in-law a Master's in English is quickly learning the ropes in Lewis' kitchen and she fondly says she is given all the freedom by a loving mother-in-law!

Francis divides his time between Goa, where Belinda lives and Vashi. An active member of the Elders Group, Francis is often referred to as the “Amitabh Batchan” for his lively interactions. Martha loves being a part of the Legion of Mary, she spends her time praying or surfing the net!

When asked to share some life's lessons with our young parishioners, they both chorused - Get to know each other - Go on dates, be a good judge of character, Pray before taking a decision. On the secret of a happy marriage - Do not be judgemental, if your partner is angry, keep quiet - Discuss the issue when things have cooled down. Children must be taught the value of grandparents and maintaining relationships. I came away from the Lewis home with a warm feeling realising that no relationship is all sunshine but if you share the same umbrella, two people can surely weather the storms of life.

- HARRY D'SILVA, Sector-29

Mr. William (Willy) Soares of Sector 8 passed away on April 22nd; barring some people in his sector and his colleagues in NOCIL, very few would have known Willy, far less the valuable contribution he made to

our parish during the construction of the church building.

In late 1987 CIDCO cancelled the allotment of the church plot; it required a two year struggle to get the plot re-allotted. I shall not go into the background of the cancellation, suffice to say that CIDCO's action was legitimate. In early 1990 Bishop Bosco Penha wanted to start BCC's (now SCC's) in Vashi and named me as Parish Coordinator apparently at the instance of Myrna Vaz and Lloyd Dias who were in Bishop Bosco's team. I tried to contact as many households to arrange meetings and it was at that time I met Willy Suares, in fact the first meeting in Sector 8 was held in his house. I also came to know that he was the Project Manager in NOCIL. Now the question

was the construction of the Church building and the funds for the same. Ferdie Mendes much younger than me did a great job in taking a team of parishioners to every parish in Bombay city. He is now settled in Goa. As regards the construction, Fr. Joe D'Souza the Priest-in-charge knew the Architect and appointed him for the job. However the Architect wanted to bring in his own builder. I told Fr Joe that it was unacceptable and we should go the route of tendering for the job. My wife and I had planned to move to Madras for good nor was I in a position to do a technical supervision for the construction. It was at that time that I requested Mr. Willy Soares to do the job. He readily agreed and scrutinized the tenders, drawings and did the technical supervision. Fr. Errol who was appointed Assistant did the other supervision.

I thought I should let our parishioners know the foundation laid by the pioneers which has now resulted in us now having a vibrant parish. May God grant Willy's soul eternal peace and comfort his wife and family members in their bereavement.

“ God is kind and great. He blesses everyone who is in need and prays. His blessings come in different forms which we need to realise and act accordingly.

Our son Dr.Donald John completed his M.S from KEM Medical college & appeared for the Tata Cancer Hospital for his Super specialisation in Cancer Surgery i.e. M.Ch. He was blessed; out of many applicants, only six were selected, Donald being one of them.

Recently my wife and myself attended his convocation .He is completing his bond period by 2016 June after which he will be free to serve the community in general. That is God's plan.

Please pray for him to serve the needy & suffering people with “Compassion”.

B.A.S.C.A.- OSCAR GOMES, Sector–6

This is the Bombay Archdiocesan Senior Citizens Association. Here in Sacred Heart Church we go by the name of E.T.C.

Our slogan:“Count your age by friends not years

Count your life by smiles not tears”BASCA held its Annual General Body meeting at

the Church of our Lady of Salvation, Dadar on 17th April. Nine members from Navi Mumbai Deanery attended. Four of them were the Executive Committee of our Parish.

Mass started at 10.00 am celebrated by Frs. Aniceto Pereira and Rocky Barnes, both are instrumental in starting and keeping BASCA in running condition.

There were refreshments after mass and then we got down to business, presenting and passing the minutes of the previous year. Elections are held once in four years.

What followed was an enlightening speech by Fr. Anthony J. Fernandes from Goregaon. He is a young Priest not a Senior Citizen. He dwelt on 16 points which we put down. We have no space for elaboration.

The points!:· Isolation of the Elderly· The Right to Happiness is not guaranteed by the

Constitution, it is from the Bible· Express belongingness, avoid politics and religion· Keep abreast with technology· After food and clothing, it is company that elders

crave for

· Visit elders frequently· Anticipate your expenses, do not get caught flat

footed· Discuss money matters frankly with friends and

children· When making a Power of Attorney, add a caveat,

keeping a second person as executor· Find extra money for expenses, it is not a sin· Protect yourselves against scams· Then, being parents to grandchildren, the elders

have a right to a calm and quiet life in their latter years and not made to run after tots just to save money.

· If able, arrange tiffin services for working persons, there is a very good margin.

· Recreation· Prayers meetings – do it monthly atleast.· Arrange outings· Join a service oriented group like Legion of Mary.· Then do not retire but re-tyre the SeniorsThe group then broke up for lunch, definitely they

gained a lot from this talk - A message to take home to others.

WAY OF THE CROSS ENACTED ON THE STREETS - BY THE YOUTH- JESSICA ALVARES

On Good Friday morning, 25th March, the youth of Sacred Heart Church, organized the Way of the Cross. The procession began early in the morning at 7 am. There was a huge number of parishioners gathered in the

Church premises and later joined the youth in proceeding with the procession of the Way of the Cross.

The Stations of the Cross was conducted on the moving truck. Each station had a reflection at the end, which gave us a meaningful message relating to our daily life. Every sector community had prepared a prayer, which were recited after each reflection followed by a Hymn.

T h e v o l u n t e e r s h e l p e d u s throughout the procession in managing the people along the route so that everything went perfectly without any

hitch. All the actors gave their very best and performed their part convincingly. The Way of the Cross went off smoothly all thanks to the youths who put in a lot of efforts with having many practices which began a month before this day.

The acts was directed by Silford Braganza who made sure that everything was scripted to perfection and motivated all to give in their best performance through their hard work and dedication. The costumes were amazing and looked so perfect thanks to the Art Group of the youth who put in a lot of hard work and time using innovative ideas to design and create such

beautiful handmade costumes. It was truly a team effort which bore fruit on that day.

Thanks to Fr Baptist who supported the youths and was always there throughout the practice, motivating and guiding the youth to give their best performance.

LENTEN OUTREACH - By St PAUL’S SCCJYOTHIS TERMINAL CARE CENTRE AT KALAMBOLI

- RANDOLPH ROWE

Every year St. Paul's Community (Sectors 11, 12, 28 & 29) conducts a Lenten Outreach program to foster a connect with the less fortunate of civil society. This year, on March 13, 2016, around 45 members of

the Community visited Jyothis Terminal Care Centre at Kalamboli to engage with women afflicted by HIV and AIDS; recognized globally as one of the most complex challenges faced by medical professionals and social scientists.

The Centre has been in operation since 1999 and houses around 30 women who are cared for by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Destitute. The Community members were first briefed by the Sisters about the activities at the Centre and then proceeded to interact with the residents. The talk gave us an insight into the difficulties that are faced by victims of HIV and AIDS and the ostracism they face not only from society but sadly, quite often, even from family members.

At the outset, a few members of the Group spent quality time with two women who were bed-ridden and therefore unable to assemble with the others in the common area. Prayers were said for the two women and there was also an animated conversation creating a spirit of love and care.

Thereafter, the Group met with the other women

(numbering approximately 30). Each of the residents was encouraged to participate in the fellowship beginning with their introductions. Devotional songs were then sung and the residents happily joined in the singing. After the opening prayers, there was a round of games including Antakshri, Passing the Parcel, etc. interspersed with singing of few more hymns. The women participated enthusiastically in the games and there much joy, laughter and happiness spread all around. Cake was also distributed along with chocolates.

At the conclusion, a final prayer was said and the women were assured of our prayers for their well-being. In return, they assured us that they would keep us in their prayers. The Community members were unanimous that the whole experience was very uplifting an eye-opener about how these women experience and spread joy in the face of so much adversity. While leaving the Centre, a cash donation was handed over to the Sisters.

The Centre is rendering invaluable service to the destitute and would be happy to receive donations. Jyothi Care Centre is at Plot No.4, Sector 11, Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai – 410 218 (next to Holy Spirit Church) and can be contacted on telephone at 022-2742 3399 or on e-mail at .

MAMA MARY ALL THE WAY- EVELYN MENEZES, Sector-16

The merry month of May, is known to bring sweet blossoms of flowers and a gorgeous midsummer Sun. Perhaps, that is why, this fresh and sunny month is dedicated to our Blessed Lady.

Many people join in with their friends and family to offer up to Mary, a moving and loving tribute of prayers and veneration, either in church or in the privacy of their homes.

Over the years we have come to notice, that gathering all members at someone's home for a prayer session can be extremely tedious and rather inconvenient due to space constraints, the weather and various other reasons.

After brainstorming for hours, about what can be done to bring everyone together for offering a fervent and loving tribute for our Blessed Mother in a way that would be both refreshing and comfortable for all members, eureka, an idea struck us!

We decided that the best solution for our problem and the best way to offer our prayers in the Sector 16A garden. To our surprise all members were very supportive about the idea and were onboard quickly.

And so, it was decided that the rosary would be recited every evening at 8 pmas it was a suitable hour for everyone.Reciting the rosary, outdoors, while the night breeze kept us cool and filled our lungs with anew energy and enthusiasm, made us feel closer toand at peace withMother Mary.

Not only did we write our own introductory prayer

for each day but we also sang praises to Our Blessed Lady everyday in English, Hindi and Konkani hymns. And while we prayed for general intentions, we dedicated the rosary daily to one family's special intentions, birthdays, and anniversaries and for good health in general.

Someone once rightly said that “children are the living messages we send to a time we cannot see”:. To encourage a love for the rosary and for Mother Mary, the children were given opportunities to say the opening prayer, read reflections on the mysteries, recite the Litany and pray for various general intentions thereby motivating them further to spread the love for the rosary as well.

If the kids had gotten themselves so involved in venerating our Blessed Mother, the adults weren't far behind as well and actively participated by joining in the prayers as well.

There were certain obvious hurdles in our new plans, indeed, such as dim lights, mosquitoes& no permission to serve refreshments, however with modern technology dim light was taken care of by just a light tap on our tablets and smart phones, chocolates were offered to everyone afterwards as refreshments and by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit there were no mosquitoes to distract us.

It would seem that Mother Mary favored this new style of praying as well!

In the end, I would just like to thank all the members of our community for being so enthusiastic and wholeheartedly joining in prayer everyday with us.

Way to go St. Peters Community!!!

- A kindergarten teacher was walking around observing her classroom of children while they were drawing pictures. As she got to one girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.The girl replied, “I'm drawing God."The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like.”Without looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

- A Sunday school teacher asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to church, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?" Annie replied, "Because people are sleeping"

OH! ONLY FIFTEEN DAYS….!!!- KATHRYN M. GOMES, Sector-6

A group of us parishioners led by Fr. Baptist left for a pilgrimage tour of Europe on the 2nd of May 2016. Through the good offices of our father and a parishioner, a bus lifted us from the church to the airport.

We took off for Abu Dhabi and then got transferred for the onward flight to Rome. We took a city tour to the Colosseum, then dinner and stayed the night at the hotel.

Next morning, it was to the Vatican City, St. Peter's Square for a Papal audience. Then we could only say “Mama Mia” when we were shown the world famous 'Sistine Chapel', a pure inspiration for art lovers, the architecture and the paintings of Michelangelo and the Vatican Museum. We had the privilege of walking through the 'Door of Mercy'.

On the 3rd day, we went to Assisi, the land of St. Francis, the Basilica and his tomb.

Then it was time to sing “Arrivideci Roma” for we were to go to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the church of St. Anthony of Padua, were completed in a day (the 4th day).

On day 5, it was Venice in a water taxi through the 100 canals, no streets (no traffic jams and no pollution) and then straight by coach to Zurich in Switzerland and stayed the night there.

Day 6 was glorious. Imagine us at 10,000 feet on Mount Titlis, Central Switzerland's loftiest peak playing in the snow. A cable car gave us panoramic views of snow covered valleys, glaciers, lake forests and mountains in Switzerland.

The next morning we left for Germany to the famous Black Forest, where we had to taste the famous Black Forest Cake. We saw the making of the famous Cuckoo Clocks. Breakfast in Switzerland, lunch in Germany and dinner in France – all in a day.

Next morning it was 'Oo la la Gay Paree'. A city bus tour through Paris took us to Arc De Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Grand Palais, Notre Dame Cathedral and the famous Eiffel Tower at level 3.

Then came the solemn part of our tour our visit to Lourdes. We joined the candle light procession. It was so solemn that the fervor of the people was infectious. Next morning we walked to the Basilicas, the Holy Springs.

Our final program, a visit to the church of St. Ignatius of Loyola and to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, near the spot where Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children. A candle light procession was a fitting finale to the grand tour. The camaraderie was gay. We took off from Madrid, Spain and said Hasta La Vista to our Amigos.

A big thank you to Fathers Gerry, Fr. Baptist and Fr. Peter from Dongri Parish and of course Royal Tours.
