This election, let’s put children and youth on the agenda.

From income inequality to early learning and child care, children and youth in Canada have a lot riding on this federal election.

But Canada’s eight million children and youth — almost 20% of the population — don’t have the right to vote. So it’s no surprise that politicians don’t spend much time talking about child and youth well-being. This election, we want to send our politicians a message: when we head to the ballot box, we’ll be thinking about the best choice for children. This October, we’re calling on Canadians to #VoteForEveryChild.

UNICEF Canada’s One Youth

From 25th to 1st place, UNICEF Canada’s One Youth is working to make Canada the best place in the world to grow up in. As the global UN agency for kids, UNICEF has worked to improve conditions for every child around the world for more than 70 years, and has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization. UNICEF Canada’s One Youth brings that work to Canada, by building the new gold standard for measuring child well-being, influencing policy change and developing innovative solutions to the challenges they face – with young people. We are calling on Canadians to take action and do better for children and youth.

Share our Message

Photos, stickers, brochures, and other visual assets are essential to an effective campaign. But such assets are expensive and time-consuming to produce. That is why we are creating a series of “stickers” that we plan to make available to any like-minded organizations interested in using them.

Like the photos we use and the message they’re sending? Feel free to share as widely as you like. Does your whole organization support the campaign? Send us a message and we’ll include your logo on the banner below the image to demonstrate our unity in improving child and youth well-being.

Promote your own Election-related Activities

Use the #VoteForEveryChild hashtag to let us and the campaign’s other followers know about the events you are planning to highlight child and youth issues leading up to the election. Our social media accounts will retweet and amplify your work, to show the breadth and diversity of civil society that wants child and youth well-being to be at the forefront of the 2019 election.

Some general tips for promoting your events on social media:

1. Tell people what you’re doing, and why: Explain what you or your organization has planned, and state clearly why you are doing it and what you hope to achieve.

2. Repeat your message across times/platforms: Spread the word by repeating posts across multiple platforms and at different times of day to reach your target audience.

3. Give a heads-up: Let people know about your events well in advance so they can plan to support or attend, especially as the election date draws close.

4. Use a countdown: Remind attendees and increase anticipation by counting down the days until your event will take place.

5. “Tweet-plomacy”: Identify key accounts in your riding/community to follow, tag, and engage in your election-related posts (e.g. city councillors, community organizations, events).
