PREFACE

During the summer of 1991 I experienced a spiritual awakening, which can perhaps best be described by the sequence of events that led to that transformation: It began in the summer of 1990 when a neighbor lady kept after me to come to a meeting at her friend's house. At this meeting some Indian medicine people were to take us up to a spacecraft to give us healing. I thought this all was a terrific joke, but she persisted. After days of her humorous nagging, I finally agreed to go.

When the time came, I went to M's house. There were some peculiar or at least, very different people there--one strange fellow had stringy long hair, no teeth and wore a kilt; and another enormous fat man weighing at least 400-pounds sat across from me. He spoke with scathing, sarcastic humor. Other various new age young people were there, oozing phony sweetness and light. I wasn't comfortable with this group at all. The Indians seemed to be the only normal people there. R. was young and beautiful, and her father and aunt appeared to be typical rural Mexican Indians, quite down-to-earth and sensible--very solid.

They told their story: First, they had developed the ability to heal with touch, but tired of the crowds. Then they became involved with space beings, communicating with them and going up to their craft. At that point, they'd begun to think that perhaps they had gone crazy. The man said, "It was a good thing that I didn't drink, because I would have thought that was the cause." Next--which I've discovered is part of the process--they were viciously attacked in a terrible car wreck which left them with severe injuries. They learned to protect themselves and then began to give these seminars. However, the man died within a few months after this meeting.

The fat man broke in on the discussion, which had begun to ramble, by asking to be the first client. He laid himself down on the floor, R. sang an Indian song and the uncle did strange things with his hands, holding his fists out in front and shaking them vigorously. The fat man soon began to tell us where he was. He said, "I see the most beautiful colors I've ever seen in my life." He reported that "they" told him to get an amethyst stone to wear and not to be so cynical and negative.

He came to, and various other people took their turns. This went on for the rest of the afternoon. I felt that people deserved their privacy so I didn't eavesdrop on any more of the "trips." I passed the time wandering around M's back yard which she had landscaped into a wonderland of trees and pathways through the flowers. However, as the hours wore on, I got so bored I almost went home. Then about six-o'clock in the evening, nearly everyone was gone. It was my turn.

I took off my shoes and lay down. Nervously I said, "I'm a complete amateur at this sort of thing. Probably nothing will happen." R., at my head, began to sing. Suddenly I realized that this was no joke, and becoming more than a little worried, I quickly said the "Lord's Prayer" three times. By then I felt myself leaving my body through the top of my head. Immediately, I found myself surrounded with red light. The next color, or rather, experience, for I really felt these lights as if they were material, was emerald. It felt soothing and not so intense as the red. I seemed to be moving horizontally through these lights. The green changed to gold, then finally

4

Page 5: Vortices of the American West Edited

to white. I hesitated before moving into the glaring white because it looked so bright I thought that it might be the end of me. R. encouraged me to step into it, and I did.

All throughout this whole experience, I could hear people talking in the house, doors opening and closing and the telephone ringing. I kept talking to R. and her father, telling them what I was experiencing.

After adjusting to the white energy, I popped into a huge rock-walled dark medieval room. A tall man in a blue robe came in. I said, "I know him. He's my friend." Like Alice in wonderland, I had changed and had become a little girl. Then he led me by the hand as I floated beside him to an even darker room lined with books from floor to high ceiling. Abruptly he silently held out a scepter. It was about four feet long and had a blazing crystal fireball on the end. Holding it high, he offered it to me. I stared at it, then said to R., "I'm not ready for this." But she said, "Go ahead, take it, you're worthy." So I reached for it. As soon as I got hold of it, the charge knocked me to the ground and I almost lost my grip. It pulsed like electricity. I stood still for some time, moaning with the shock from so much energy. Then I dropped it and immediately found myself whirling very fast down a dark blue tunnel. R. asked me what was happening. I told her. She calmly told me to pick up the scepter. By imagining it, it was in my hands again, and I popped out of the top of the tunnel.

I found myself in a beautiful, beautiful world of green rolling hills and singing blue sky. I heard gorgeous soft music as if from a huge orchestra just out of sight, and as I moved about, the music changed. It seemed to come from the plants or rocks in specific areas. At my feet and all around spring flowers glowed in pastel colors I'd never seen before. The light seemed to come from within the colors. I saw no one, but I felt the presence of many beings fill the air with love and harmony. The man in blue was also nowhere to be seen, but this wasn't to say that he wasn't present. Ahead and to my right a mountain stream tumbled down the slope through the flowers. On a hill to the far right a dark craggy leafless old tree was silhouetted against the light in the sky. To the left in the distance, I saw a glowing pastel city of pointed domes.

I went down to the creek, waded in and splashed the water up and over me. It turned to sparkly diamonds in the air, and tingled when it touched me. My body felt wonderful, alive and full of pleasure. After some time, I tired of this and told R. that I was curious about the city. Her father said, "Ask permission to go there." Hesitantly, I asked.

Instantly I found myself walking the wide jewel-like streets. I didn't see any people, but it didn't feel deserted either. I walked facing the rising sun and the stonework beneath my feet glowed of iridescent colors. Like a magnificent symphony, a peaceful harmonious silence filled the air. Rising from the very edge of the street, monumental clay or rock buildings of off-white were defined by sharp shadows in the clear morning light.

To my left, to the north, wide stairs led up to a Grecian-type building of huge marble columns glowing pure white. I climbed the steps. At the entrance I looked inside. In the shadows, I saw a floor of alternating black and white diamond-shaped tiles about a yard wide in an enormous room. The black tiles looked like onyx and the white alabaster. To my right, to the east, sunlight came through the spaces between the white columns, which were about two stories high, if not higher.

On the far wall, high wooden shelves held huge upright ledgers. In front of this wall, I saw a long high table on which some of these ledgers were lying open. They looked to be about three feet by five feet in size. Then I noticed tall beings in dark brown robes with hoods over

5

Page 6: Vortices of the American West Edited

their heads standing behind the tables, apparently deep in concentration as they studied the open ledgers.

Intimidated in the powerful silence, I stood there for some time, embarrassed and feeling like an interloper. I said, "I'd better leave. I'm just a human and don't belong here." R's father said, "You're not just a human. Ask permission to go to them." I said, "Unh uh. Nope. I'm not of this level." He persisted, so I mentally asked permission. Instantly, they showed me thousands of my past lives, going back to when I was a warrior on the stars. I can't really describe how overwhelming this was for me. I saw that I had been man and woman, king and peasant, scoundrel, wizard, fool, diplomat, fisher, builder, mathematician, savage. Botanist, farmer, metal-worker, banker, sailor, nun, queen, spoiled snob, beggar, warrior, treasonous spy, priestess, hunter, astrologer, doctor, artist, musician, witch, story-teller, criminal and petty-thief. Weaver, painter, grower, cook, singer, prostitute, dancer and poet--not to mention many many persons of absolutely no importance whatsoever, but nevertheless, many times a teacher. He said, "Now do you understand that you're not "just a human?" In a shaken voice, I weakly agreed.

Then the robed beings swooped over. They surrounded and overwhelmed me with hugs of great affection. I've never felt such perfect complete love. It was so intense I began to cry. They tried to communicate to me mentally, but their high energies blew my circuits, and all I could comprehend was a glowing white ball about four inches in diameter. After a short time, I began to shake, and told R. that I couldn't stay there any longer.

Immediately, I began hurtling back into this world. I fell, then hit a level before falling again. Like falling off a cliff and hitting a ledge, I fell and hit, fell and hit, over and over and over again, for a very long way. I ripped through many levels to get back in time to still exist here. Falling from what seemed to be a hundred feet above, I brutally crashed back into my body. Shaking violently and uncontrollably in the slow dark energy of this world, I felt cold and awful and sobbed like a child.

The man said, "Amateur, indeed!" R. held a purple glass of water to my mouth. I slurped it like a baby, dribbling out the sides of my mouth. Then I ran outside to stamp my bare feet on the rocks to get grounded. Later, M. gave me some heavy split-pea soup to eat, which helped a lot. After about an hour I was settled down enough to drive.

When I got home that evening, I excitedly told my son and his friends what had happened. They weren't impressed. He said, "Ma, it sounds like heavy drugs to me. Are you sure you're telling us the whole story?"

That experience was my first conscious immersion in the spirit world in this life. Nothing much happened for several months, but I began to write down some of my memories of certain lives. On April 18, 1991, during one of these writing sessions with M., I recorded this passage in my journal. Unbeknownst to me, Spirit Teachers were putting me on the path to receive the vortex and leyline material:

Me: Mt. Shasta has some connection with the crucifixion which I do not understand at this time.

Teachers: "A CLEANSING. A FOCUS FOR MANKIND. A COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER REALMS. Issa will help you. Go up to Mt. Ashland this spring and meditate. Drink the water! Wear white.

6

Page 7: Vortices of the American West Edited

Drink from a purple glass. Use your crystal-wand. LISTEN: Fast three days before doing this May 28. Be there for the sunrise and sunset. Then watch the moon the night of the 28th. Others are welcome. You are establishing an electronic pathway at this time. Same as the Spring festival when He began to speak in Palestine."

According to their instructions, I planned to be on the mountain the early morning of May 28. I decided to camp the three days of the fast.

On the third day I camped on the Klamath River south of the I-5 freeway. I began to remember my life as an Indian Medicine Woman in the 1850's. Although our tribe lived in what is now called the Applegate area, we had several times hiked over the Siskiyous and crossed the Klamath River to go into the Marble Mountains for ceremonies. After dropping down into the Klamath drainage, we felt coolness and terrifying energy as we approached the corridor to the entrance of the Sacred Area. At that time, the Klamath River raged dangerously swift and high through mountainsides of enormous trees. Clear and full of fish, the water tore with primitive energy to the sea. Now in this end time, in the lifeless afternoon heat, a dispirited little river wandered sluggishly between denuded hills.

At first I felt sad and depressed, but the more I thought about it the madder I got. By late afternoon, driving back to Mount Ashland in a thoroughly negative and irritated state of mind, I hurried mindlessly along with the rest of the cars. Suddenly, a beautiful four-foot long snake appeared in the road in front of me. A car approaching from the opposite direction gave me no choice but to run over him. At that point, I felt a break in time, a changing of energies, a "whump" to my solar plexus. I knew then that the next day wasn't going to go well (next day, indeed--it's been three years), and I felt sick to my stomach about squashing the snake.

Large rattlesnakes are often supernatural or spiritual--but, of course, some are only snakes. At one time, American Indian medicine people understood that the snake symbol was related to Mount Shasta. The symbol of the snake and the spiral are one and the same. Here in the West thunderstorms are spiraling winds of great force interacting with mountains. Mount Shasta is a giant crystalline pyramid, a transmitter and receiver, and the spiral has to do with electronic waveforms. The Ram's horn1 is a spiral, and this partly explains the connection between the Bighorn Medicine Wheel in Wyoming and Mount Shasta.

At the Ashland Hot Springs, I arranged to camp for the night. After signing in, I took a soak in the hot water to purify my body from the fast. I set up my tent while it was still light, then got into my sleeping bag and set my wristwatch to wake me at one thirty. It was hard to sleep with all the traffic noise, but during the long hours of waiting, I did sleep a little, waking fitfully every so often while feeling quite out of place.

1:30 a.m.--time to go. I tried to be quiet as I packed up my tent and started my car. I drove out onto the highway. On the freeway, I passed one lonely truck before turning off the ramp at the top of the pass. From there, it was twelve-empty miles to the Mount Ashland ski lodge. By three

1I found an ancient ram's horn on Turtle Rock, north of Table Rocks near Medford, Oregon. There are wonderful energies at that place. There's a shaman's cave under the east side of that cliff. The old man is still there in the spirit world. I asked him if he wanted to leave this earth, but he said that he was going to stay right where he was to watch the coming show. He wasn't at all friendly, and told me that his family had been murdered by the whites.

7

Page 8: Vortices of the American West Edited

o'clock I found a place to park off the side of the road. It was much too early so I tried to sleep curled up in the back seat. Stretching out was impossible and I shivered in the cold. Finally it was 4:38 a.m., the time of the full moon. I got stiffly out of my car and stumbled through the snow to the edge of the bank. The dark wind cut at me with biting unfriendliness. Feeling like a complete fool, I chanted and whirled my crystal staff three times, then pointed it off in the darkness toward where I thought was Mount Shasta.

I got back in the car and started the engine to warm up. Morning seemed a long way off. I felt disconnected from my rational frame of reference and sensed a vague uneasy lack of confidence. The dark cold hours dragged on.

The evening before, I had filled a clear glass jug from a spring at the campground near the ski lodge, and it now seemed to be a good idea to treat this Mount Ashland water with the first rays of the rising sun. As the sunlight began to touch the mountainside, I saw in the distance that Mount Shasta wasn't where I had thought it was hours before in the dark--so much for psychic accuracy. However, the clear morning air seemed too glorious to be of this world. Standing in the shafts of first golden light, I lost all fatigue and doubt. I pointed my crystal staff at the jug saying, "I charge this water with the white light of the Father to give me love, wisdom and power."

Although snow was still on the ground and it seemed like winter, I planned to spend the day on the mountain. Due to the fast, I wasn't feeling very comfortable, so I found a place out of the wind near some big rocks where I huddled in my sleeping bag in the sunshine. For a short while the sun felt warm, but soon the fog came swirling in, covering me with a freezing cloud. It was too cold to meditate, and clearing the fog off the mountain became my principal preoccupation for the day. After much concentration on my part, a weak sun would come through, only to be lost again. I drank the special water through the day. I wasn't hungry, but I was beginning to feel weightless and spacey. Some friends and others had told me they were coming up about four in the afternoon. Even though I was chilled and again having doubts about this whole thing, I stayed there until exactly four, but left before anyone came. I didn't trust my now super-attenuated nervous system to be depended upon for driving in traffic if I stayed longer. Later, these people did drive up to the lodge, only to find me gone. I missed them by only minutes, but they had been delayed by various car problems.

About a week later I planned a trip to Mount Shasta with a friend. Thinking that an ephemeris might shed some astrological light on the significance of May 28, I phoned the owner of the metaphysical bookstore in Yreka. She had what I needed. On the Shasta trip,2 we stopped at the bookstore. The owner was an older lady of obvious spiritual development. She told us about watching on her TV an emergency newscast evacuating the town of Mount Shasta because the mountain was erupting, but later she realized that no such program had been actually broadcast. Then, abruptly she insisted that I read Coming Earth Changes, a Survival Handbook by Page Bryant (Sun Publishing Co., Santa Fe, NM, 1983). I bought the book. Later, at home, it didn't take me long into the first few chapters before I understood why I was reading it. Ms. Bryant defined ley lines and vortices. For me, "Eureka!"--instant enlightenment!

I asked my Teachers to explain to me what I had been doing on Mount Ashland in the freezing early morning dark on May 28. They said that I had been establishing electronic lines of force as well as demonstrating my desire to serve the Great Ones. This didn't tell me much, but at

2At Bunny Flat up on the mountain, I heard doors slamming, cars starting, stereos blaring and young people talking and yelling to each other, but the area was deserted. It sounded like the living complex at a college.

8

Page 9: Vortices of the American West Edited

least I understood that there was some kind of relationship between Mount Ashland and Mount Shasta.

To better understand this Ashland-Shasta "electronic line of force," M. and I taped some aeronautical charts together to look at this line. We noticed that we were living within a triangle formed by Shasta, Crater Lake and Eight-Dollar Mountain near Selma, Oregon. Furthermore, a line drawn from Mount Ashland to Shasta also touched the very top of Mount Lassen, and also, that line extended northwest apparently ended at the Oregon Vortex near Gold Hill. At that time we couldn't determine the location of the vortex near Crater Lake. Many of the volcanoes of the West Coast seemed to be situated one after another on straight lines or in geometric patterns.

Later, working at home on a World Aeronautical Chart that had grown to include the whole Western United States as far east as the Black Hills, I could see that lines from the Four Corners area seemed to follow rows of Indian ruins going into and through the Grand Canyon, ending at Santa Barbara. Also, that the line from the Oregon Vortex touched the exact summits of Mounts Ashland, Shasta, Lassen and Baldy in Southern California. This line bisects what I have been told to call The Return Focus Triangle, with apexes at Mount Scott near Crater Lake, Mount Shasta and Eight Dollar Mountain near Selma, Oregon (see page 50).

Next, my Spirit Teachers told me to build a medicine wheel near a vortex on our ranch. I told them that I knew nothing about Indian religion and wouldn't know where to start. Ignoring my complaints and arguments, they told me to get rocks from all four vortices of the Return Focus Triangle to place at the four compass points of the wheel. Next I was told to get a conch shell for the center, putting in it a small gold nugget, a quartz crystal and a ruby (which makes laser light in both worlds). That did it. I told them that I couldn't get a conch shell, and a ruby was out of the question. However, a few days later, as I wandered through a second-hand shop, the owner's daughter came in. She was carrying a large conch shell and said, "What shall we do with this?" Of course I bought it.

Listening to my Teachers for each step, I put this medicine wheel together. I bought a teensy-tiny ruby for the conch shell. Mount Shasta rocks made up the south points of the wheel, Crater Lake the north, Mount Ashland the east, and serpentine from Eight Dollar Mountain on the west corner, the Point of Wisdom and Power facing the East. In the center of the wheel, extending to the circumference and using rocks from each of the four vortices for each spoke (Eight Dollar rocks for the west, Shasta for the south, Crater Lake for the East and Mt. Ashland for the north), I oriented a cross to the four compass points. In the very center of this cross went the conch shell with gold, crystal and ruby touching each other in the cut part. By putting this wheel close to my home, I brought forth enormous energies into my life. Medicine wheels, by their very nature, probably shouldn't be close to places of habitation.

At the same time, I was working on another book, and in that book, had written that pure water blessed with the rays of the rising sun would purify. Fasting, meditating and drinking this special water would bit by bit raise the vibration (cell by cell) of the body and mind to clear the consciousness, lifting the whole personality to a state of listening to God. In some ways, it's like tuning a radio to the proper frequency. Anyone can do this.

As I collected the rocks for the medicine wheel, it seemed efficient and logical to get pure spring water from all four vortices at the same time, then to mix it in a single container. Every morning I treated this water in a clear glass jug with the first rays of the rising sun, using my hands to charge it with the White Light of the Father and programming it to give me love, wisdom and

9

Page 10: Vortices of the American West Edited

power. I drank that water all throughout each day. Almost immediately, I began receiving clear and precise information, but it came all at once. I always first made contact with my personal core group of instructors, whom I call Spirit Teachers, but there also were several groups of teachers from different levels. Sometimes they would connect me to the "great computer in the sky" for the vortex information itself. This impersonal source seemed to be impatient with my slow human mind and its inability to process large amounts of material all at once. Aligning my mental energies to such perfect intensity led me to become dissociated and dissatisfied with my life down here. At the same time, my false ego retaliated with overwhelming emotions of confusion and doubt, trying to get me to return to my former mind-state, and I wondered if I had gone mad.

Nevertheless, as if to emphasize the validity of the transformation, Spirit Teachers sent me a polyphonic four-voice cantata in Ab minor in the baroque style of the Bach family. I wrote that one morning while drinking coffee out on the deck. Using an ink pen, I made no mistakes, and went in to the piano only once or twice to confirm that a note was what I had heard. Given my thin musical background of playing a mediocre clarinet in school band thirty years ago, I had to admit that I was experiencing something more than a deranged imagination.

Then my Teachers told me to look for a configuration of stars on a Forest Service map of the Klamath National Forest. After getting that map, I marked all the larger mountains with red dots. I stayed up quite late that night trying to see the pattern of the stars but finally went to bed in defeat. However, the next morning I immediately "followed the dots," bringing out a series of stars within stars, described on page 62.

For the next three months, I put my conscious, logical, thinking mind on hold, and would look and look at the maps, forgetting myself and losing track of time. I have a somewhat photographic memory, so I believe that I was taking pictures to put in my mind. Then I'd sleep. The following morning, compelled to draw lines from various points to other points, I saw patterns; patterns of triangles, spokes of wheels and vortices occurring along straight lines. Unknown vortices became evident when many lines crossed at exactly the same spot on the map. Some of this latter type, which I call "derived vortices," are obviously large and powerful because of the many important ley lines intersecting at these places.

During this mentally fuzzy, but in other ways alert period of time, in an absolute frenzy of discovery, I saw that there was a unifying organization to many of the vortices of the West. Other separate, superimposed systems involved different vortices. The next few months I existed in a meditating and half-conscious state which alternated with the logical, awake state. The latter consciousness was used for the hours and hours of tedious and precise work drawing the lines, trying to compensate for the curvature of the earth and the lack of correlation of maps of different scales--all done on my too-small kitchen table. In the following pages, I have written in two states of consciousness; one mystical and the other the normal logical waking state. I decided to mix these two voices because it was exactly this state of being in two minds that produced the material for this book.

During that summer, strange paranormal events manifested--my horse was killed by lightning, and, as more peculiar events happened, I felt disconnected from my former safe life. Enormous stress came to the surface in my family, and I finally left my home with only my car, my dog, some camping gear and $200. Within a few months, my whole life had blown up into a puff of nothing. It's been almost three years since all of this, and I'm still trying to regain my balance. However, in spite of all the upset to my life, I would never want to return to my original frame of reference. My view of the universe is broader now. I've been shown a tiny glimpse, but there is much more to be understood. I hope that the following information on ley lines and vortices will encourage others more knowledgeable than I to further investigation.

My Teachers say that it's been many millennia since humans on this continent have been aware of some of this information, and the time has come for it to be known again. I want to be of service to Those in the Light, as was He, the Christed One, who is now, soon, in this time of enormous change, both geologic and in the affairs of man. to come again to this Earth, to this new Holy Land in the American West.

LEY LINES AND VORTICES OF THE AMERICAN WEST

INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION OF LEY LINES AND VORTICES:Vortices appear to be points of power, or energy on the Earth, and ley lines are the

relationships between those points. An analogy might be that the vortices are accupressure points, and the ley lines between them are meridians on the skin of the body of Mother Earth.

However, reality is likely not so simple. My theory is that there is a template for this physical reality in a world existing concomitant with this one, and that that template is geometric, or mathematical in organization. Matter is here, then not here, moving back and forth between implicate and explicate reality, as described in the theories of David Bohm, a contemporary and colleague of Einstein. This template for matter as we experience it in this explicate reality (the physical world) is in implicate reality, as also described in the "morphogenetic fields" of Rupert Sheldrake, a biologist at Cambridge in the 1960's.3 Joel Goldsmith, a metaphysical healer, often alludes to the same kind of system in his books; Jane Roberts mentions it in the Seth books; and Swedenborg wrote of the correspondence between this world and that of the spiritual in Heaven and Hell, paragraph 90.

If this is what is, then it's possible that the template for our Earth in that unseen reality is crystalline in organization. Furthermore, that crystalline matrix seems to be similar to a geodesic dome--a series of triangular shapes fit together to form the skin of a sphere. The joining on the surface of the Earth at the apexes of these triangles are points of energy focus, the vortices of the Earth. Some of the principal lines of force joining these vortices, called "ley lines," form triangular shapes between vortices.

At these foci of energy, where the triangles join together at their apexes, the matter of the Earth, as it forms in explicate reality (our world as we sense it), reveals the presence of these foci, or vortices, by formations of geologic significance: volcanoes, high mountains, hot springs, mineral deposits, ends of sand spits near the ocean, sea mounts, forks of rivers and river mouths, large falls, deep gorges, rock outcroppings, and possibly others. Some dams are located on vortices, and often mineral deposits, especially gold, denote a vortex. There is a swirl of vortices around and near the Golden Gate Bridge, and these might be the coming together of several faults--many ley lines follow the great faults and waterways on the surface of our earth.

This system of vortices and ley lines is not a new idea. Sacred temples of the ancient world around the Mediterranean are located at powerful vortices, and drawing lines between them will bring out patterns of triangles. The Indians in the American Southwest as well as those in Peru and other parts of South America located their cities and the roads between them on vortices and ley lines, which look like so many spokes and hubs. The Chinese practice the ancient science of geomancy. "The Olde Straite Pathes" of England,4 the location of Stonehenge and its relationship to

12

Page 13: Vortices of the American West Edited

the Great Pyramid, Glastonbury and the myth of Avalon correlate to vortices. I'm sure there are many more examples throughout the world.

Edgar Cayce spoke of gigantic earthquakes in Southern California after Mount Etna in Italy and Mount Pelee on the Island of Martinique exploded. Perhaps they're all on the same ley line. I believe that these major lines "crack" the Earth in a regular mathematical pattern, a function of pi. A geological graduate student in Montana proposed such a theory in the late sixties. I suspect that earthquakes that occur close to each other in time often represent earth movement along the same ley line. Many times I have found this to be so. For instance, Sheep Peak, near Las Vegas, and Winnemucca is connected to Mt. Rainier and the Point occupied by Port Townsend in the Puget Sound. Earthquakes have happened on the same day along this ley line.

The Chinese have practiced geomancy for thousands of years, and the cathedrals of Europe are located on powerful vortices. I suspect that many of the old Spanish missions are located on sacred ground here in our American West.

To me, some of the cities on the West Coast seem to be located in really the wrong spots: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles are situated in areas of confused jumbles of ley lines crossing every which way. Living might be more pleasant and secure if we would take the time to find a harmonious spot for the location of buildings and towns.

Furthermore, I believe that the discomfort of "jet lag" felt after a long trip is our bodies complaining about crossing so many electromagnetic lines. This strips off our outer bodies--astral, etheric, and mental--which are susceptible to electronic forces. I usually feel terrible after driving the I-5 freeway from Southern Oregon to Southern California because it crosses, rather than follows some powerful lines between major vortices. After such a trip, it takes me a day to get myself "back together" again. If our highways, railroad tracks and airways were laid out following ley lines rather than crossing them, we would move harmoniously with the earth, and our bodies would not suffer as they do now.

From an imaginary viewpoint out in space, large vortices appear to be the hubs of wheels, and the spokes emanating from them are ley lines. Some of these "spokes" are more powerful than others, just as there seems to be different degrees of strength to the vortices. These spokes are like gears, in that the spokes are fixed, but energy whirls about, to and from the vortices, moving from spoke to spoke in spiral whirls of different and changing frequencies. Until we devise instruments to monitor and measure these lines of force, this idea will be only conjecture.

As viewed from space, some of these ley lines will cross each other, three or more of them, at exactly the same spot. These points of crossings are often in uninhabited places, wastelands or mountain areas so avoided that there is often no mountain or place name nearby to name them. These points of crossings I call Derived Vortices. Some of these Derived vortices are obviously quite powerful, because I found them by noticing the intersection of principal ley lines (lines from known important vortices). These derived vortices and their relationships, or ley lines, between each other also meet three or more at exact points, forming further derivations. Often, near derived vortices, the aeronautical charts note areas of magnetic disturbance.

Except for the lines that end at Santa Barbara, the Oregon Vortex and the trench off the coast of Southern Oregon, almost all of these principal lines continue on to other countries and continents. I have limited myself to the American West because that is the area that I'm familiar with. In years past, I have flown in a light plane over, driven by, and hiked to or camped on or near many of these

13

Page 14: Vortices of the American West Edited

sacred places. Furthermore, I realize that I have discovered only a few of the main features of a vastly complex system.

This presentation is an overview of the main vortexes in the American West, and most of them listed here relate to each other. There are other separate systems, existing within but not related to these systems; an example being the system of Mt. McLoughlin, Mt. Thielsen and the Table Rocks of Southern Oregon. The whole coast range seems to be a separate system, and the Olympic Peninsula appears to be a world unto itself, and a rotated one at that--I feel disoriented and dizzy there. Mount Olympus, however, is tied to the volcanoes on the mainland, and many important ley lines end at points on this Peninsula such as Tatoosh Island and the Elwah valley.

Also, each region has its own local vortices, particular to that area, and often quite powerful in that context. The Stars in the Marble Mountains and the complex of vortices around Sedona are of that classification.

I make no claims as to whether or not it is beneficial to visit all of these locations.5 Many are very good, but others are unpleasant, and some may be downright dangerous. I suspect that the latter are the Derived Vortices out in the middle of nowhere, and they've probably been avoided by humans for good reason.

However, if you want to connect with the spirit world, the very effort of physically hiking alone to a good sacred area will begin this process. Plan to take a three-day fast while drinking the water from springs at these places. Sleeping alone under the stars in the wilderness will help you align to divine perfection, and days of prayer and meditation will open your mind to your Spirit Teachers, who have always been with you.

If you want to map your local area, first tape topographical charts together. Next, mark with a colored dot all conical mountains (possible vortexes). Then mark with a different color known vortexes. Also mark the summits of all prominent mountains. Other possibilities are dam sites, river mouths and gorges, ends of sand spits, waterfalls and known mineral deposits. Using a yardstick, start drawing lines, lots of lines. Go into a relaxed state, and draw a line wherever three or more dots are aligned in a row, or the dots of two known vortexes. (To check on the validity of the latter, transpose that line onto an aeronautical sectional chart to see if it continues to other known vortexes outside the scope of the topographical map.)

Most ley lines go through, or to, many obvious vortexes. You'll know you're getting it right when you start finding derived vortexes where three or more of your lines cross at exactly the same spot. Further confirmation will come when you discover that those derived vortexes are the sites of gold deposits. You will also find many ancient ceremonial sites, often at the same places. Look for configurations such as spirals, circles, stars, parallelogram grids and, of course, triangles. If you see something unusual, ask, and Spirit Teachers will explain it to you.

MYSTICAL INTERPRETATIONS:Whirling about these vortices, my inner eye sees beautiful colors, as if from a prism. There

is also sound, for music is color in implicate reality, that other world that co-exists with our perceived one, and that other world is a mathematical matrix of flowing colors. Mystics of the ages have spoken of their consciousness passing back and forth between that world and this. The Master Jesus (Isha) spoke of that other world co-existing with this one in my book, I Remember Isha:

Peter, a small, thoughtful younger man, asked, "Why are we here this moment and this day as we are?"

Isha: "We are here by the grace of God, by our desires to be. It is this desire to experience life which draws us into embodiment. It is this dynamic which supplies the seed, as it were, to generate into this family those whose past experiences together focus on a step--as you will--which holds for each one an opportunity to advance in beingness.

"Similarly, this day is like all other days in that it is unlike all other days. Within this dichotomy lies the import and reason for being. Thus we have the necessity to be aware of this moment in time, and, with it all rewards available at this moment, which can become obvious to us by surveying this landscape. The family upon its face listens to the murmur of peaceful voices, the rush of air sweetened by flowers and the sparkling water reflecting dynamic rays of sunshine.

"But beyond that, the inner heart of man reaches out to an infinite meadow of beauty of music of perfection which knows no end, but which is just as real as it is unseen by mortal eyes. My brothers, this scene before us is but a reflection of that which exists but unseen. There are no ends, no fatal moments, nothing but passing effortlessly between two poles, if you like, of beingness. Each has its purpose, each brings its music, and each has its celestial beauty."

Regarding Sacred Ground--from the same book:

At the time of the second spring festival, we hiked far out into the foothills to an estate owned by Great Uncle Zebedee. At that place, the extended family had gathered around the central focus of the grounds, a clear and deep pond about one hundred feet long by fifty feet wide. Ancient trees gave dappled shade to large flat-topped rocks around the eastern edge. This pond, or large spring actually, seemed magical to me, and I thought that even the birds in the gnarled shrubs sang of glorious secrets. A story in the Holy Books described this spring as Holy Ground, and the family had cherished and cared for it for many generations...

Isha answered: "It is because of just these things that we gather here and now at this sacred spot on earth. This spot is holy, even as we with our own souls are holy. This ground is sacred--the womb, as it were, of life on earth in this dispensation. There have been others; but for us, at this time, we and this pond represent the womb of this age." (This spring was, as I understand now, the main electromagnetic vortex for that time/space--the Middle East--and the next two thousand years.)

He spoke in the evening, before the dancing, wine and song: "My fellow kinsmen, we are gathered here by this beautiful sacred pool: A pool of insight for those who will but have the desire to absorb the knowledge contained here in these aquamarine waters. Look, for in the layers of transparency you may see thy soul as the Father knows you-- a

15

Page 16: Vortices of the American West Edited

Being of purity and clear light. As the light, when it enters the crystal of quartz, does refract and glow with the colors of creation, so the light of the Father will separate into the colors of creation as it enters your consciousness. There is another world beyond this one, and such a pool as this is a doorway for those who so desire it to be. As a flower growing here knows itself to be reflected by the water, so your soul, your purest being, will be reflected back to you when thou contemplates the infinite depths of such clarity. You are but light, pure glorious light, and such clear water is a fit mirror for such light.

"Feel yourself as a being of light, for such is your true reality. As the beam of this light penetrates the crystalline layers of this pond, it is refracted and separated, broken into the glorious colors of creation. Pure energy. Pure delight. You are now in that other world that co-exists with this one, a true reality of glowing color, where every rock is a jewel, every thought a prayer of praise, expressed in the delight of flowers in this perception.

"Look at the rainbow, and know that it is, indeed, your pathway to the heavens. You are such beings of pure color and exist in that world as the rainbow exists in this. As the wind caressing our skins carries the fragrance of the flowers to us, a messenger of their loveliness, so the very flowers themselves are an expression of your thoughts in this other world, expressed in this. The wonders of creation are infinite, and the crystalline structure of such a pool is a repository and doorway to experiencing, knowing these wonders.

"The music we have heard today was absorbed by the pool and expressed in that other world as a rainbow of changing color, pure sound as our inner ears know it. Music and song lift every atom in our bodies, and indeed, the rocks we sit on, wise old beings from the beginning of the world, to a harmony with all creation, an expression of joy from the Father."From my journal of September 29 and 30, 1992, from Spirit Teachers:

Teachers: "All of creation (matter) is but frequency of energy of sound. Sound is created from thought. [By sound, they mean the Sacred Word.]

"Your world was not created eons ago, as you think. It is re-created every moment, every now that you experience. You, also, create this world surrounding you by your thoughts and breath."

From I Remember Isha--His nightly teaching to the rabbis and "disciples":

"The Light of the World is the Lord, and the Lord is the Light of thy life. All life is sustained by this Light, the Light of Constant Creation. Look at the rainbow, and see your Father in His direct manifestation.

"Light contains information. Light is created from the WORD. Light is energy. Light and matter come from the HOLY WORD. Do not think of the sound of the WORD as the sound your physical ears can hear. The sound of which I speak is from the other world which underlies yours. Light, as well as sound, can penetrate the veil between these worlds.

"There are many, many kinds of light. The white light of the Father is now flooding your world, purifying and uplifting. You all feel this. There will be physical and political expressions of this light. Much rigidity and fixed ideas will cease to be. That is, old

16

Page 17: Vortices of the American West Edited

paradigms will collapse. You may experience this change as confusion in your minds. Expect this.

"Light is composed of color, and color is composed of sound. All begins with the creative WORD. When you speak or sing, you create color and light in the other world, which is manifested in this world as all that is.

"Your voice comes back to you as your life and experiences. These, in turn, influence your thoughts, which form your voice sounds, which create color and light, which is expressed in this world as all that is.

"The use of breath, imagination, desire and will, expressed in the out-breath, creates all. This outbreath, when combined with conscious thought desiring expression [voice], is more powerfully creative than breath alone.

"When your thoughts are attuned to the higher glories, your outbreath is combined with the Heavenly Host, and is even more powerful still. Thus, prayers sung in that state of mind do create a focus, a whirlpool of radiance about that physical location which lingers for tens of thousands of years.6 With conscious desire and consistent application, your very life can create a radiance upon this Earth which will not soon be forgotten.

"As you walk through the wilderness, know that the landscape, plants and animals surround you with love, as you return that love to them. This creates a song in the higher realms, sung by the angels, which, returning, bathes your world in glowing light.

"Yet, in even greater measure, do you create such music when you extend the hand of loving compassion to another of God's children, your brother or sister. This giving in loving care to each other is the highest expression of your humanity. No learning, no accomplishment, no wealth, no prestige, is of any worth compared to this gift. The act of loving care to each other does produce heaven on earth, the world that was meant to be and soon will come."

THE EARTH

"The singing of this angelic choir is most directly impinged upon your world into precious gems and all crystalline matrices. These matrices have been concentrated in certain areas of your world by this singing from above, and are known to you as Holy Ground.

"Your world is a marvel, a marvel of conscious thought expressed through sound, to color, to light, to crystalline matter, ever changing, yet retaining a beautiful mathematical organization, seen through the inner eye as rainbows of scintillating color.

"Remember that the Earth is the embodiment of your Heavenly Mother: As you create a radiance of love from the Father by living your very lives in a state of conscious grace, you are a linking bond from the Father to the Mother, a trinity--a trinity created by your very desire that it be so.

"Do not disparage this world about you, for it is a magical library, and can teach you of all that is. Be like a little child, with eyes shining at the glories they see, and so learn to be one with God. As the wonderful air of the high mountain places fills us with the glorious

6Today, old churches and cathedrals are a good example of this. One can feel the beautiful vibrations in these places.

17

Page 18: Vortices of the American West Edited

pure energy of the Father, so know that my words come from just such a place, and are for you.

"This beautiful Earth is an embodiment of your Mother, and the very being of yourselves is an act of the Father. Know that you are one with the Father, an expression of His great love, and that this world is a creation of love. This is the Jewel of the Universe, and heaven surrounds you now and always.

"Honor your Father and your Mother. Honor your earthly Father and Mother, for they are your parents, a part of you. To honor your parents is to honor yourself. As you honor your earthly parents, so much more must you honor your Heavenly Father and Mother, for you are, truly, part of them and they a part of you. Respect your Heavenly Mother, as you experience Her, the Earth you live on.

"This Earth we live on is a Being, a Being of infinite love and giving. This Being creates more wonders for us than we can comprehend. Do not think of the land you till and own as yours. You are given to be in that place so long as Mother Earth gives for you to be there. She IS, and you ARE, with her. Your thoughts create what you perceive to be. She is enormously patient, and the spring flowers bloom with new delight and energy on the site of a bloody battle between men, who have not the vision of their true selves. The vanquished only seem to die: They return to fight again and again, until all see that, as we are children of God, all are brothers.

"Can I tell you of the ages of our Mother, the Earth? Can I tell you of the ages of man, of the glorious civilizations long forgotten? I say to you, you have a magnificent history, and the grandeur of the Earth is beyond words. Why are you now in such low estate? Because you have chosen to be so. But know that the kingdom of God is all about thee, and you are one with God."

WATER

"Water. Water and light. The very raindrops are wonders of color, energy and light. A gift. Like all our Father's gifts, they fall equally upon all. There is no judgment, no good, no bad. ALL ARE. And by being, all exists in love, because love is the very source of creation. Through the medium of water and light, the Father reminds us of His presence through the rainbow and the sunset, glorious depiction's of His ever-present love. Love your Heavenly Father, the Creator of All, and you, His Children. Let your soul feel His Love, flooding thy being with liquid energy and all the colors of the rainbow. The rainbow that appears so unexpectedly and magically in the mountain mists is a reminder to you of your relationship to God. It is a bridge to Heaven, the glorious colors lifting your consciousness to Him.

"Water is but a step down from quartz, and is liquid light. Light is of the Father; and water imbues this world with His Creativity and Love, existing in all life, crystals, ice, oceans, the clouds, the lakes and streams.7

"All life on this world exists in a form of water, because water is of the essence of the Father, the essence of His pure love and creativity. Water contains all knowledge, and, when locked in its infinite crystalline form, holds that knowledge.8 The crystalline form [ice] is so

7The underground wonders of water and crystal, such have been recently explored in New Mexico are repositories of sacred knowledge.

18

Page 19: Vortices of the American West Edited

varied, because knowledge is infinite. This form can compress information and preserve it for tens of thousands of years.

"Drink the pure sparkling waters of a high mountain spring. Know that Mother Earth is speaking to you, imparting wisdom, which can be consciously accessed, merely by desire, imagination and faith. From the depths of the Earth this water comes, knowing of this World and its history, its present and its future. Drink. Drink in a state of reverent purity--and know God. Listen to the small birds who gather at such a spring. Thy Elder Brothers speak to you and guide you so.

"Look at the clear still water from a sacred spring. Such wonders, such wisdom, so transparent, so beautiful, as are our true selves, beings of glorious pure light. Know yourself. Look into the depthless wonders of such a pool and know that you are viewing yourself."

Back to my Journal of September 29, 1992, Spirit Teachers:

"There was a time, on your planet, long ago, when knowledge was simply drunk. You still speak of "thirsting for knowledge." You will experience this way of learning again.

"Now, Lorae, we would like you to think again of the vortices and ley lines of the Earth. Now think of the heavens. Think of communication. Think of portals. Think of templates. We are trying to convey some difficult (different) concepts across to you.

"What do you imagine a vortex is in terms of frequency?"Me: "Intense. Each has a different velocity and amplitude and quality, but all are intense to

varying degrees. They exhibit color and sound. We now have instruments capable of sensing this color and sound, along with the obvious electromagnetic energies. Others will do this work."

Teachers: "The frequencies from space come to this Earth at the vortices. There are many different systems, each with its own particular grid--not necessarily in a square or rectangular pattern.

"There are frequencies of thought, of being. Frequencies have four dimensions, just as the matter that you experience. [We live in a four-dimensional reality?] These dimensions are intensity, velocity (in time), amplitude (in space) and quality. This last is difficult to convey to you. Know, however, that a new physics is being developed, which may explain this. As to quality; compare the frequency of a plant to that of a bird. A rock. Basalt to crystal. The water of the ocean waves breaking to the water of a still pond. Infinitely different, although classifiable into categories, categories of templates from the invisible world expressed in this."

Journal, September 30, 1992, Spirit Teachers:

"Sacred grounds are portals for communication and frequency from space and from Earth to space."

Me: "Can we affect this frequency?"

"It depends upon the number system that you use and the number system being used at that portal."

"Shall I call vortexes Portals?"

8The six-sided snowflake is infinite in its manifestation. Quartz is hexagonal, also, and the Master spoke of the relationship of water, quartz and light.

19

Page 20: Vortices of the American West Edited

"Yes""What about ley lines?"

"Lines of communication. They have length and distance, but zero width. A portal has amplitude, frequency, intensity and quality, that is, the energies at the portal have those characteristics. Same with lines of communication. About affecting the information passing through portals: Singing sacred sounds will be effective. You may be surprised at the results. Placing crystals at the springs is excellent. Good."

From the above: Vortexes are different in quality, intensity and amplitude and velocity of frequency. The more principal ley lines described for each vortex and the more spokes passing through the hub, the greater the intensity of the vortex.

Not only are vortices delineated by degrees of force, or importance, but also by type. Because they are foci of energy, that energy whirls at a certain frequency; and furthermore, this whirling is either clockwise or counter-clockwise. As this energy is whirling, it moves either out-of, or in-to the Earth. The counter-clockwise movement is pulling energy into the earth, a "cleansing" vortex, and the clockwise movement is an outgoing, or "generative" vortex. Ley lines have force and direction, that is, some are stronger than others, and the force moves in a direction, possibly alternating. Not only are there different degrees of energy, but different kinds of energies flowing along these pathways. Each line has a parallel twin--one on this plane, and one in the etheric.

There are three-dimensional pyramids existing in implicate reality above the surface of the Earth, some reaching heights of thousands of miles, some only a hundred or so. I have not tried to ascertain the bases of these pyramids. These etheric pyramids, for those who want to access infinite knowledge in meditation, are repositories of such data. Go to the King's Chamber for precise information. To get this precise information, you have to have a fairly exact idea of what to look for, similar to researching a vast subject in an enormous, computerized library. To begin a search, go to the Queens Chamber for generalized browsing and information. After months of refining your questions, move to the Kings Chamber.

Some vortices are meetings of such disparate ley lines--or ley lines whose charge has been damaged or changed--that these vortices spin both up and down in both directions, an example being the Oregon Vortex near Gold Hill, Oregon. Such strange phenomena could also have been created or damaged by man directly, by humans trying to use the power of a vortex in confusing and unsacred ways.

Journal, 9/29/92:

Spirit Teachers: "Know that all is well. The lizards are to reign no more. They will be returned to primal matter. We will no longer permit them to oppress humans."

Me: "What of those humans who have chosen to be one with the lizards?"

"That is a complicated question, not given to simple answers. All will decide their own treatment. There is no judgment. All are free to choose."

"What of the conjunction of Uranus and Neptune?"

"A new civilization [coming] with completely different paradigms."

"How? Tell me."

20

Page 21: Vortices of the American West Edited

"You, yourself will create. There are many paths of reality to follow. We do not know which you will choose. You are the power, the glory and the expression of the magnificence of the Creator."

"Me? Ridiculous. I'm an idiot."

"[You think that] because of the frequency control. We will disrupt it soon. ASK!

"Frequency control [is] very strong right now to stave off rebellion. The authorities are clinging with violent methods and in desperation to their disappearing power. Their time is finished. This is an end game, and you, dear humans, are the prize. It is well that you ask for our help, for, by cosmic law, we cannot interfere without permission. WE ARE HERE AND WE DO LOVE THEE. Do not despair. Have no fear. We are by thy side at all times. LISTEN: We have sent thee hawks (angels) and many other birds as a sign. Look for signs in the skies."From my book, A Tale of Turquoise:

That evening, she photographed the straight half-double rainbows we saw in the north. On the horizon, two astonishingly bright upright stems of glowing rainbow color appeared from behind the trees. I think that these apparitions could have been the leading air disruption of spacecraft, because about a year later, I noticed the same thing in pictures of spacecraft taken during the great fires in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Before the sunset, we witnessed unusual large moving shadows on the mountains to the southeast. It was as if the heavens were speaking to us.

In late May of 1993, while driving along highway 238 in Southern Oregon near the turnoff for the little Applegate, I noticed two large lenticular formations (saucer-shaped clouds) above and to the south. They were connected by a thick, unusually brilliant rainbow as wide as the saucer-shaped clouds. We stopped to watch them, and another vehicle also pulled over. A contrail beneath the clouds put them above 60,000 feet. The "clouds" and the rainbow-connection dissipated after about twenty minutes.

Vortices and their ley lines are not only Earth-surface phenomena; obviously they relate to the heavens above. The following conversation with my Spirit Teachers in April of 1993 is self-explanatory:

Teachers: "The Stars in the Marble Mountain Wilderness ARE THE KEY TO LIBERATION."

Me: "If so, I ask for your protection."

"We have always been with thee."

"Thank you...How are they the key?"

“For all to know the truth.

They are our portal for transportation and communication. You, also, can leave the Earth through this portal."Read about the Stars in the Marble Mountains on page 56.

MT SHASTA

MT SHASTA

My first experience with Mt. Shasta began in 1988. While in Portland looking for an accounting job, I'd idly picked up a book at the library called Learning to Channel. I tried some of the techniques, but didn't seem to be getting anywhere, so forgot about it. However, I had been keeping a journal, writing in a rather freewheeling state-of-consciousness style.

One rainy evening, I began to write in a sacred way, as if from formal scripture. I noticed that I wasn't thinking ahead, but simply transcribing words the moment I thought them. Something strange was happening. I wrote, "Who are you?" Immediately, my hand printed in letters almost half a page in size, "I AM." Positive that I must be consorting with spirits trying to trick me, I was terrified. I crumpled it up and put it in the wood stove to burn.

I didn't do any more writing for some time, but finally began again. As before, I started writing all sorts of things, obviously not from my conscious mind. Curious, I asked if I were writing it. The reply was, "Your hand is moving the pencil." I asked if I were going mad. I have lost the notes, but the answer was something to the effect that we humans had to cling to a certain narrow view of reality to feel safe. I took the bait, thinking that the worst that could happen was that I would scribble some nonsense on pieces of paper.[HA! I’ve been writing ever since!]

After a week or so of this apparent communication, "They" told me that I needed to get away from the city. I was to go to the "mountain" and fast for three days while drinking the water there. They said that I would get further instruction after doing this. At the time, I was concentrating on getting a job and would have forgotten about it if I hadn't written it down.

Soon after that, I drove to the Medford area for a job interview. The door to the offices had a picture of a pointed snowy mountain on it. After the interview, I explored in the forest above Selma, and camped overnight at a trailhead. In the morning, I wrote in my journal from Spirit Teachers: "We're happy that you are moving to the Point of Power. Now, go to the coast and walk on the beaches as you make your way back to Portland."

I camped my way up the coast. While walking on the beach at Newport, a sharp arrowhead appeared at my feet, right next to the water line. I later gave that arrowhead to my sister who lived near Teton Village at Jackson Hole. As soon as I got back to Portland, I made myself a very strong margarita. Towards the bottom of the glass, a phone call came from the prospective employer's father, a retired accountant. In my slightly inebriated condition he gave me a rigorous mini-accounting test. Later, his son called to tell me that I had gotten the controller's position.

22

Page 23: Vortices of the American West Edited

Amazing, I must say.

I moved south and went to work and became completely involved in learning the business and planning how to computerize the office. About two months later I decided to leave early one afternoon. I took some papers to the CPA office down the street, and after dropping off the papers, it was too late to return to work so I wandered into a metaphysical bookstore next door. As I read the book titles, a man came over. Abruptly, he confronted me, demanding, "Why haven't you gone to the mountain yet?" Small and fined boned, he looked to be Mediterranean, with olive-skin and large brown eyes. His whole demeanor seemed gentle, and I felt that, somehow, I knew him.

Not missing a beat, I started giving my usual excuses for procrastination; too busy, too distracted, too tired, et cetera. He ignored all that, and told me that I was to immediately go to Mount Shasta. Once there, I was to hike up to the saddle on the Wilderness boundary and drop down to a spring with "the finest water on the planet."

We continued to talk about many things, the nature of reality and illusion, what was really happening with the starving in Africa, etc. After about half an hour, the bookstore owner said that he was closing and that we'd have to leave. On our way out, my friend pointed to a book about angels on the desk, saying something about it being time for me to read it. I replied that I had no interest in that sort of thing.

Outside, he said, "Do you see auras?" I told him no, and I wasn't interested in that, either. Ignoring me, he walked over to stand in front of a white wall and told me to look slightly above the spot between his eyes, but not to focus. I did that, and was blinded by a flash of brilliant white around him, so bright that I instinctively put my arm up over my eyes. I told him that all I could see was white, no colors. He dryly said, "Practice. The colors come later." Then he told me that it was time for him to leave. I asked his name. He said, "Arax." I said, "Arax..?" He said, "That's the name my Father gave me," and got into his old Datsun pickup and drove away.

The next Thursday afternoon, my boss let me off for a long weekend. As I drove to Mount Shasta, I noticed ominous clouds to the south. Before reaching the town of Mount Shasta, I seemed to be hearing, with no sound, "You are a warrior." Me? Miss Chicken Little? Really. I stopped at a quick mart. An old man came up to me in the parking lot and asked me where I was going. I told him I was heading up to hike and camp up on Mount Shasta. He said, "Be very careful. We lose someone every year up there." I thanked him and left.

On Shasta, I drove to the parking lot at the end of the road. Disoriented and almost spooked, I walked a little up toward the north, but felt uneasy, and came back to go back down the mountain to camp. The next day, I put on my backpack and began hiking up the same way, but ended up wandering down trails that eventually petered out. Confused, hot and tired, I was standing on the saddle at the wilderness boundary when out of nowhere, a young man came running up to me.

He was in his mid-twenties, tanned, muscular, healthy-looking and wearing hiking shorts and a mountain rescue bivy pack around his waist. His bare torso, face and neck were covered with glitter, and he had thick wavy long light-brown hair and was wearing mirror sunglasses. He said, “You're supposed to go that way," pointing toward a trail off to the east. He told me that it led to

23

Page 24: Vortices of the American West Edited

Squaw Valley, which was there for all to enjoy. Then he took off his sunglasses and for an instant, showed me his eyes, which were much too large, almond-shaped and a very, very pale glow-in-the dark phosphorescent blue. He put his glasses back on and hurried off, like the Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. I glanced away for a second, then when I looked back where he had been he had disappeared, but we were on a high rocky ridge with no place for him to have disappeared.

I hiked and climbed the two and one-half miles into Squaw Valley. This spiritual life takes a lot of sweat and stamina and isn't easy, let me tell you. After an hour or so of hiking, I began to feel doubts about what I was doing. When I left the trail for a pit stop, I found a large chamois lying on a log. It was brand-new, and rough around the edges just as it came off the animal.

24

As I continued to hike in the gloomy afternoon, I noticed many lenticular formation-type clouds. After what seemed hours of tedious walking, I finally began to descend into the Valley. My heart almost stopped when I saw that someone had arranged rocks in a large heart-shaped form, and the rocks inside it made out the words "I AM."

I entered the valley and left the chamois on a big rock, thinking that whoever had lost it would find it there. After all this, I was sure that something wonderful would happen to me in this place, and I greeted the various jaded new-agers there with guileless enthusiasm. They weren't at all friendly, and one fellow even suggested that I camp up on the ridge. An approaching lightning storm made it apparent that his motives weren't too kind.

25

Squaw ValleyPhoto by Lorae Ireland

Dejected and disappointed, I set up my tent in the lowest hanging valley. I had bad dreams all night, and the first thing next morning I packed up and began climbing the tumbling cascades. In the second valley, the flowers were so beautiful, the sky so blue, the air so clear that I felt much better. An older lady sitting in front of her tent looked like a Tibetan lama. She welcomed me, saying "Enjoy, enjoy!" I set up camp. Then the lady left her tent, rapidly climbing up to the next hanging valley. After about half an hour I heard coyotes howling from the direction she'd taken. It actually sounded more wolf-like. We were up too high for coyotes. (When I returned to this area weeks later, her tent was still there, but had not been used for some time.)

Later, I, too, began to climb. A hummingbird liked my shirt, and followed me. After several hours I stopped at a very high place. Someone had put rocks in a circle with a stone in the center. I made a large spiral shape of rocks. Late in the afternoon, I came back to the valley where the spring emerged. I lay there in the warm sun for a long time, watching a hummingbird taking a bath in the water. I spent the weekend there alone, and didn't leave until late Sunday, long after all the others had left the lower valley.

On my way out, I noticed that the chamois was gone. Near there, the creek had been dammed up next to a camping spot, and I could see where someone had hacked away at a leaning, but not

26

Page 27: Vortices of the American West Edited

dead tree. In a bare area near the fire pit I saw a strange piece of knarled wood. It was about four feet high, and seemed man-shaped with a goatish head. It sat upright facing the fire. Inexplicably, I went into a rage, and lifting that wood, I smashed it and stamped on it, breaking it into as many pieces as I could. I scattered the pieces far from the area and hiked back to my car in a roaring bad mood.

In April of the next year, I lost my job due to strange happenings in that trucking business, so began to devote my time to cleaning up and improving our little farm. (Keep in mind that at that time I was "Ms. Scientific" with pretty much zero interest in the spiritual or supernatural which I considered to be New Age nonsense.) Two years later I experienced an intense spiritual awakening which began to show me the perfection of the heavenly glories, but also made me aware of our true condition on the Earth at this time. My Spirit Teachers evidently had decided that it was time for a right smart smack upside the head and time for me to begin waking up. I started writing:

Journal, April, 18, 1991 (repeated from the preface):

Me: "Mt. Shasta has some connection with the crucifixion which I do not understand at this time."Teachers: "A CLEANSING. A FOCUS FOR MANKIND. A COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER REALMS. Issa will help you. Go up to Mt. Ashland this spring and meditate. Drink the water! Wear white.

According to their instructions, I planned to be on the mountain on the early morning of May 28...I spent the day on the mountain...Some friends and others were to come up about four in the afternoon. I waited until then, but left before anyone came because I didn't trust my now super-attenuated nervous system to be depended upon for driving in traffic if I stayed longer.

This same group got together a month later at Eight-Dollar Mountain for a simple meditation at the time of the full moon. As fate would have it, I met Sara at this gathering. That evening, she photographed the straight half-double rainbows we saw in the north. On the horizon, two astonishingly bright upright stems of glowing rainbow color appeared from behind the trees...

At Sara's suggestion, I met her later on the Fourth of July at the house of a mutual friend. Because she had told me that she was a spiritual counselor, and I had some distressing personal matters to process, Sara and I decided to go camping on Mount Shasta. Due to various scheduling delays, we were on the mountain at the time of the solar eclipse, July ll, 1991. During the eclipse, I felt terrible and stayed in my tent napping through the whole thing.

Sara and I still did not consciously recognize each other, even though we were both as overbearing as ever. She had appointed herself to play the wise counselor to me, the confused person whose life was a mess. I didn't accept that scenario, and we soon found that we were both living in completely disastrous situations. That night we processed through many understandings and revelations, channeling ( or whatever) our various guides and speaking with some space

27

Page 28: Vortices of the American West Edited

brothers, who offered to tune up my vibrations.

I agreed, and felt my voice becoming thick and heavy, comparable to going under an anesthetic. I went to sleep, and they took everything but my physical body up to their spaceship. I woke the next day feeling wonderful. My Indian guides were Thunderbird (death and rebirth), Bones (bitter memories from the past), and Grandmother (wisdom). Thunderbird had been my uncle in the Southwest in a life I barely remember, and Bones had been my Indian husband when I was massacred at Indian Corner, the ranch I occupied that July of 1991. The old medicine woman was from the Puget Sound area, and I knew her only as Grandmother.

All the Angelic Beings had left the mountain. "Old Toad," the Masters' gate-keeper, who usually sat his huge ugly self on a crag to the east above the site of the old ski lodge, was not to be seen either. I missed his raunchy boisterous laughter. The mountain did not seem to be a magical place this time and was dead and hot. Two days before, in late afternoon, Sara had photographed it from the freeway. It had looked dry, gray and dirty, with a sooty haze around the base. After we set up camp we saw from the signs of wet mud up the banks that the little mountain streams had been dropping rapidly. There were no birds or chipmunks, and the mountain exuded a hot dead silence.

Early the third morning, I “saw” the Goddess of the Mountain. Her head was huge, part of the south side, like a Mt. Rushmore carving. A beautiful, dignified older Indian lady with great crevices in her cheeks from many years of tears, she now cried silently, with no tears, a dry, hot expression of unbelievable sadness and pain.

I felt that the present condition of the mountain wasn't to continue much longer, and that a great eruption was coming soon from the sacred spring, now a small mud pond full of demons. Even the patterns formed from the water bubbling up through the mud made demon faces as we saw

28

Page 29: Vortices of the American West Edited

later from a photograph taken by Sara. She also had taken a picture of an arrow of snow on the mountain pointing to where the eruption would come out--the spring. (The snake symbol involves the spiral, which is death and rebirth.) The town of Mount Shasta, Redding and the whole upper Sacramento River drainage would be affected, and the I-5 freeway and the railroad would be closed, disrupting transportation for a long time.

Conversation with Spirit Teachers May 27, 1991:

Me: "We need help. There are many of us who have come here to be of service at this time of enormous change, but we feel to be not strong enough. The dark forces of destruction seem to be overwhelming."

"As they should be, my child. Even perceived evil serves a purpose in the great design. How else will humankind learn, and remember for eons, the consequences of irresponsible neglect of their being and of the Earth? Yes, the lesson will be harsh, and engraved upon the consciouness for tens of thousands of years.

"Why are you here? Why, just as the others are, only your lesson is different, and you have a more subtle, difficult path. You know that your mind creates your world, but you do not practice that belief. Be mindful of what you think and say! Use your imagination and your words to create a beautiful world of being. Yes, it takes some effort, and you haven’t done this practice in an very long while, but now is the time for you to begin. You know enough now to create what you want. You can stop, for the time being, seeking to learn what is, and put your efforts, instead, to creating what will be." (If only I had paid attention to their words!)

From A Tale of Turquoise, continued:

Late that morning (July 13, 1991), we broke camp and drove down the mountain. While wandering about the park at the headwaters of the Sacramento, obviously sacred ground--we decided to try to recover a turquoise necklace that Sara had given to a young man. He had, in turn, given it to a man who she thought was a black shaman. (While we were discussing what to do, I could sense Thunderbird and others deciding whether or not to trust Sara with the necklace again. Thunderbird didn't think it was such a good idea.) Sara knew that the "Black Shaman" who had it lived in Dunsmuir, so we drove there. As we entered the town, on impulse I turned back, driving down a side road to the Sacramento River to a fisherman's access spot. I said that this might be a good place to go swimming later.

We continued on, looking for a place to eat lunch. We stopped and went in one restaurant, but uneasily left without ordering. After much driving about we chose the place to eat, parking our car across the street in front of a little shop. After lunch, we went searching for the purported black shaman. Sara knew his name, and an inquiry at the police station gave us to know where his wife had a small shop--we had parked in front of her shop at lunch. We walked into the shop, chatted with the young woman there, and Sara directly asked her for the return of the necklace. This wasn't a complete surprise, because Sara had phoned three days earlier leaving a message on their answering machine telling them that they had something of hers and she wanted it back.

I could hear Thunderbird, my Indian guide in the other world, beating his drums so long and

29

Page 30: Vortices of the American West Edited

violently that they later broke. As I heard the drums, I made my own drumming in my head as I have done since childhood when trying to accomplish something in a stressful situation. The woman spoke on the phone to her husband. From the other world, the drumming was deafening. He agreed to give the necklace to us, and she left in her car to go to their house to retrieve it. The drumming continued about ten more minutes, then Thunderbird quit with a loud crash. The drum probably broke at that point. I knew then that the man had given the necklace to his wife.

She brought it to us in a white paper bag, and we quickly left. We knew not to touch it because it was so contaminated that it had turned an ugly avocado green and looked like a sick, malevolent dead snake.

Listening to my Indian Guides, I drove to the fisherman's access on the river. Unfortunately, there were people there, too many people, but we had to begin the cleansing of the necklace and ourselves immediately. We were told to put it in the water without touching it, and, using a stick, to swish shampoo around it. We were both dressed in white, the right protective clothing for this kind of work, and we were to get in the water, clothes and all, and to wash our bodies and hair with shampoo.

We went upstream a bit and crouching behind a not-large-enough rock proceeded with our tricky task. A young man fishing above us kept falling into the water, no doubt thrown off balance by the enormously dangerous energies present. That started us laughing. After all, here were two fat middle-aged ladies staggering about in the river, fully dressed, washing their hair, and behaving quite strangely. This laughter, I think, saved our lives because it was a great protection. We washed the necklace again and again, and, lifting it out of the water with my crystal staff, we said The Lord's Prayer three times at it. I washed my white sandals, then carried the white paper sack between two sticks to the trash barrel. Some people asked me what I had there. I said, very abruptly, "NOTHING, DON'T TOUCH IT!" and put it in the barrel. I should have burnt it, I know - but it was fire season.

I returned to the necklace and Sara, and we carried it back to the car on the staff, putting it above the dash in the sun. As we rode back to the town of Mount Shasta and up the mountain for the last time, the necklace began to change color, back to a nicer blue. Sara put it around her neck. Driving the curves of the highway climbing the mountain, I could hear Thunderbird saying to me, "Come on, Little Rock Head, speed it up!" (When I was his niece, in my Indian life on the plains, I always had a rock collection. He called me "Rock Head" which might have also had something to do with my personality.)

At the parking lot, we got out of the car. As if he had been waiting for us, an extremely drunken sailor or merchant-marine type stumbled purposefully toward us. A muscular man wearing only shorts and tanned skin covered with tattoos, he was of medium height, about forty years old, and uncouthly handsome in a peculiar way.

Clutching an almost empty half-gallon of vodka, this fellow took an instant fascination to my staff. In a loud gravely voice he insisted, "That's a fucking bitchin' crystal. Let me have it!" I wouldn't let him touch it, standing firmly between him and it, turning to keep it out of the reach of his outstretched hands. As if in a surreal movie, we seemed to be performing a jerky little circular dance to Stravinsky in the parking lot. Overshadowing the scene, the slate-gray harshness

30

Page 31: Vortices of the American West Edited

of Mount Shasta loomed underneath lenticular clouds in an ice-blue sky. He badly wanted the staff, but did not touch me, aggressively coming within a few inches of my body, but no closer.

Trying not to be bothered too much, we went to fetch an older couple whom I had met many times on the mountain, the first time three years previously. I asked them if they would come with us over to the spring for a cleansing ceremony. Asking no questions, they immediately agreed to do so.

My friend Jim was not in his van. A few days before, I had met him the first time on Mount Ashland when I was up there to get water and a stone for my medicine wheel. At that time, he had carried water to my car for me from the spring there, and, by co-incidence had done the same for me that morning on Mount Shasta. While lugging the five-gallon jugs he had said, "Master told me, "Carry water, fetch wood; that is the path to enlightenment." I remembered him as my old medicine man grandpa from an earlier century. As a young woman, I had taken care of him until he died of old age. He had worn the necklace in that life. The day before in this same parking lot, Sara, Jim, his friend and I had held hands in a circle while invoking a gentle rain to come from Hawaii. We were in a terrible drought. (We over-did it. The storms that came later were terrific.)

31

Page 32: Vortices of the American West Edited

Jim was nowhere to be found. I had wanted him to officiate at the cleansing ceremony of the necklace. We started walking across the scree toward the spring. It was late in the afternoon with the shadows getting longer and the colors more intense. We were two women in white, one old man with knobby knees beneath his white walking shorts, his dignified ancient wife with creased suntanned face and one loud drunken sailor finishing the procession.

He had absolutely insisted upon being included, bottle, profanity and all. He called Sara and me his daughters, and wanted to make off to the bushes with either or both of us "For a good fuck, huh?" In pidgin English he also insisted that the spring was his, that he had made it and that he was from the ocean near Hawaii.

Sara led the procession while the sailor and I brought up the rear. The old man was outraged that the drunken fellow was with us, and kept loudly voicing his displeasure. His wife told him over and over again to "just shut up." I said nothing, but walked in inner peace across the rainbow-colored singing rocks--followed, of course, by the sailor who kept trying to get his hands on me, my staff, or both. I didn't speak to him, but simply walked with integrity and concentration, leaving him to mutter and stumble along behind me.

Shasta RocksPhoto by Lorae Ireland

At the spring, playing the part of the missing medicine man, I followed Thunderbird's instructions, putting the turquoise necklace in the water then out on the bank at the head of the spring. Several tourists came up the stream, and I requested that they wait while we finished a ceremony, which they graciously did. I asked if anyone had some tobacco. Sara had some in her

32

Page 33: Vortices of the American West Edited

medicine pouch which we put in the center of the necklace. We needed fire, and my crystal staff pointed at it provided plenty. While listening to the etheric drums played by the hundreds of Indian spirits present, I danced (shuffled) around the spring three times chanting. (I don't know what, but it sounded authentic!)

I drank from the spring, gathered water into my flask, and again shuffled three times around the spring, scattering the water as I went. Next I put the rest of the water on the necklace in a figure eight pattern. To finish, I stood at the head of the spring, and pointing my staff to the east said loudly, "To the East where the sun comes up!"; facing north, "To the North where the cold comes from!"; facing south, "To the South where the light comes from!"; facing west, "To the West where the sun goes down!"; pointing the staff at the sun, "To Father Sun!"; at the spring and necklace, "To Mother Earth and the Sacred Spring!" Then I spun to my right (Mt. Shasta is a receiving, cleansing vortex.) three times, whirled the staff over my head and yelled some channeled Indian invocation and finished by pointing the staff at the necklace. I lifted the necklace by the staff and gave it to Sara to wear.

Lower Panther MeadowPhoto by Gerald Bringle

All through this, the sailor had been stumbling about, going to the bushes, reaching for the staff, getting in my way, and generally being a pest. At one point, at the head of the spring, just before the invocation to the Four Corners of the Universe, I hugged him, called him "Coyote" and

33

Page 34: Vortices of the American West Edited

thanked him for being there. (“Coyote” always created comic disturbance at Indian ceremonies.) He responded with a blank, hostile stare.

When we were finished, the bemused tourists, who had been standing in a little semi-circle about thirty feet away, came up to the spring. They didn't stay long, however, because our drunken companion started bellowing and wading into the spring, yelling that it was his, he had made it, and he was going to fix it. He proceeded to throw large rocks from the mud, bellowing and splashing about. One family with many children was so alarmed that they climbed up on a huge, house-sized rock to the east of the spring.

I went over to speak to them, and the mother said, "Do you know this man? He's frightening the children." I replied that I knew him, that it was OK, and they could come down. I went back to our loud disruptive and drunken friend and tried to persuade him to come back to the parking lot with us. He called me daughter again, said that he wasn't leaving, but we could go up in the trees and so on and so forth, all in his usual language.

All this time, Sara and the old couple were waiting in the last of the sun out in the middle of the scree slope. The family came down off the rock, and the children filed quietly off below the meadow. Holding my staff beside me, I stood about seventy feet from the spring at the edge of the sunlight while in the shadow of the mountain, the sailor energetically reeled about in the mud, splashing, bellowing and hurling rocks with amazing force. Rapidly, one after another, six and seven-inch rocks flew fifty feet and more, looking like projectiles hurtled from an infernal mud machine.I turned and walked away toward my companions.

His bellows grew louder, then fainter and fainter, following us as we climbed up to the parking lot. Before we got to our car we met Jim. On an impulse, I put the necklace around his neck. He said, "Thank you," and I had to explain that it was not a gift--all who have worn it in the past desire to own its great power again. He wore it as we all held hands in a quiet circle, still hearing the distant roaring of our sailor-friend at the spring, echoing with supernatural loudness, louder and ever louder in the mountain valley.

We returned to the parking lot, hugged all our friends good-bye, and drove down from the sacred mountain for the last time. The sun was going down, as our sun is on this age, for we are at the last of one of the twenty-six thousand-year cycles, one of the ages of man on the necklace.

Sara and I went for an Italian dinner in the town of Mount Shasta. It wasn't until after the second glass of wine that the true identity of the drunken sailor dawned on us.

He was "He Who Thunders Beneath the Sea," a long-forgotten Hawaiian deity who is the connection between Mount Shasta and the mountaintops that make up the Islands of Hawaii. He causes all earthquakes in the Pacific and along our coastline, all volcanoes in the "Ring of Fire," and many violent electro-magnetic storms. No wonder he stared at me when I called him “Coyote!” He's no mere “Coyote!” Poisidon himself is more likely. I have found one place in Hawaii where he shows himself--in the Sacred Banyan Tree on Wakikii beach you might see him as a large, brightly-colored loud raucous bird.

34

Page 35: Vortices of the American West Edited

To make sure that we didn't miss the point, while we were driving home that night, there was a 6.2 earthquake in the ocean off the vortex at the mouth of Hunter Creek near Gold Beach, Oregon.

A few days later Sara insisted that I come with her to a bazaar to keep her company while she worked there. Meanwhile, the newspapers reported a terrible chemical spill from a rail car into the Sacramento River near Dunsmuir. I knew that I should have burnt that paper sack! Oh well, maybe the water itself was doomed anyway from the gunk on the necklace.

A thousand years before:This turquoise, which had turned an ugly khaki green from miss-use and abuse, came back into the service of the Light Beings and was worn by medicine men of the American Indians. It was used much in the yearly activities at the Sacred Spring on Mount Shasta and the vortex now known as the Four Corners of our states in the American Southwest. Because its color glowed of true turquoise again, those with sight could see the glow of purple radiance around it.

This same man, who had been Pharaoh, my brother, wore this necklace again as an American Indian medicine man. He was married to a round complacent person named Spider Woman, Sara again. I was a little girl, his niece, and felt honored to be allowed to go with the medicine men and women up to the Sacred Spring on Mount Shasta for the yearly spring ceremonies. We gathered at this Sacred Ground for the full moon in the early spring. All had to fast a minimum of three days and drink the water from the Spring.

This spring at that time bubbled out of colored crystalline rocks, gushing up into the air about three feet to fall in a brilliant spray in the sun. Early in the morning, my uncle would send me up to the spring to let the water fall into a container immediately after the first rays of the rising sun had turned the fountain to glistening colored diamonds. Surrounded by wildflowers and mosses, this spring attracted many birds, our spirit brothers who spoke and sang to me there.

Deep inside the very center of the mountain, the medicine people could see a shining artifact from the stars that gave a pulse, causing the colored rocks on the surface to ring. This central shining pulse was the reason for the high vibration and power of this volcano.

The main group, from many tribes, camped further down the mountain, but I was allowed to stay up with the medicine people in the meadow below the spring. We were friends with the many wild panthers, supernatural sacred animals who slept near us. Sometimes we fed them, but as a gift, not a bribe.

Ordinarily, when medicine men and women got together there was much joking and wild tricks, for these people were the most fearless of all, and had a truly wild sense of humor to match. However, at this place, all were serious, because they had great respect for the Lady of the Mountain and Her Spring.

The night of the full moon of the springtime we had a Ceremony of the Drums. Two hundred or more medicine people in a spiral of concentric circles drummed, sang and played flutes all night long. We were, among other things, communicating via the spiral from the mountain to our

35

Page 36: Vortices of the American West Edited

brothers in the stars. Sometimes we saw brightly colored lights in the sky. I felt that I was no longer on this earth and that we became floating spiritual beings.

Written March 8, 1993:INVOCATION FOR MOUNT SHASTA

By the authority of my Divine Father, I AM the power to claim this mountain as the domain of its creator, God Most High.

May all Angels reclaim God's dominion over this mountain and its Lady, that Her Face be no longer marked with tears of sadness, but rather, tears of joy for the return of Her Children to the Shrine of Our Lord.

The time is now at hand for the forces of Light to claim dominion over this Mountain and this Earth. The contamination of the dark ones is now at an end, and I AM the authority to decree NOW that all darkness, all mis-qualified energy be no more a part of our reality.

I AM the authority to ask for the protection and service of the Mighty Archangels to cleanse, purify and re-vitalize this mountain, this Sacred Mount Shasta, embodiment of the Spiral of Life. We, as Children of the Creator, do claim this world and ourselves for our Father NOW and FOREVER, that we may experience our true reality on our Mother Earth as a glorious expression of the creativity of our Father in Heaven.

I AM the desire for the angels to again return to their abode on the Mount Shasta, that it be a Light for the World. May all humankind come here in reverence and joy, to commune with All Beings in the Light of the Father, and may all sincere seekers come to this Sacred Place with welcome, that they might know of their true identity, glorious Children of Light, Children of the Most High.

May this mountain be always a Light for the World, a place for all to experience the great brilliance of their true divinity and immortality. We drink of the water flowing from the breast of Akaska, the Lady of the Mountain, and hear the birds, our Elder Brothers, who do speak to us of our true being. Listen! Listen! And be at peace.

This mountain has been sacred to Native Americans for a very, very long time. Reprinted by permission, the following story, Mis Misa, The Power within Akoo-Yet That Protects the World, written by Darryl Wilson in News from Native California, the Spring 1992 issue, tells us much:

In the legends of my people there are many events of "our history" that have precise meaning and are completely understandable in our society. Our lessons are from oral "historians." As a people we have been taught, for all seasons, to listen to these stories and to apply the lessons within the stories to everyday life. This is one way to gather spiritual and mental "power" and to maintain emotional as well as physical human strength--to somehow balance out being with the awesome velocity of the churning, continuous universe.

Mis Misa is the tiny, yet powerful spirit that lives within Akoo-Yet (Mount Shasta) and balances the earth with the universe and the universe with the earth. Its assigned duty makes Akoo-Yet the most necessary of all of the mountains upon earth, for Mis Misa keeps the earth the proper distance from the sun and keeps everything in its proper place when Wonder and Power stir the universe with a giant yet invisible ja-pilo-o (canoe paddle). Mis Misa keeps the earth from wandering away from the rest of the universe. It maintains the proper seasons and the proper atmosphere for life to flourish as earth changes seasons on its journey around the sun.

The lesson establishes that Akoo-Yet was the first mountain created long ago and that it is a seat of power, a spiritual place. It is a mountain that must be worshipped not only for its special beauty and its unique power, but also because it holds Mis Misa deep within it. My old people of wisdom may have identified the mountain as wiumjoji se-la elamji (living place spirit), or wiumjoji elam-ji se-la (living spirit place).

In the "old" lessons and according to the "old" laws, to ascend this mountain with a pure hart and a real purpose, and to communicate with all of the lights and all of the darkness of the universe is to place your spirit in a direct line from the songs of Mis Misa to hataji (the heart) of the universe. While in this posture, the spirit of man/woman is in perfect balance and harmony. Few people are able to accomplish this mission. The person must be born for making and maintaining the "connection" between his/her nation and all that there is--and for no other purpose. This is one way nature has of ensuring the health of the whole earth.

In a balanced society that experiences few interruptions, "long range plans" are maintained that will ensure the continuation of the society and the honoring of Mis Misa. The people will continue to live, it is said, for as long as the instructions from the spirit of the universe are honestly obeyed.

When the season approaches that the person who has been assigned this duty prepares to enter the "other" world, a child is dreamed of and born. The planning is intricate since the person "departing" must have sufficient time to train the child to maturity in order that the many lessons and songs are understood as they were created--and are learned with unaltered purity. The most important of all of the lessons, it is said, is to be so quiet in your being that you constantly heart the soft singing of Mis Misa.

40

Page 41: Vortices of the American West Edited

To not keep this "appointment" between the society and the powers of the world is to break the delicate umbilical cord between the spirit of the society and the awesome wisdom of the universe. To not listen, intently, to the song coming form Mis Misa is to allow the song to fade. Should the song cease, the Mis Misa will 'depart" and the earth and all of the societies upon earth will be out of balance, and the life therein vulnerable to extinction--as the moon was.

It is, therefore, imperative that the practice of communicating with Mis Misa be maintained. Now that "civilization" has entered our native homeland and permeated our people with half-truths, there are few Original People who think in this manner. The linear thought patterns of "education" have brought some of us to be ashamed of our language, our songs, our traditions.

But, the imposing Euro-American intrusion into this hemisphere will not dominate the native societies with enough velocity to cause us to forget our songs and to forget to think beautiful thoughts of all of the precious life that surrounds us--or to forget the ceremony that must be maintained in order for that precious life to flourish.

Akoo-Yet and Mis Misa are little known and may never be sacred to "civilization," to which Akoo Yet is known as Mt. Shasta. There are no songs coming from it. It is a natural resource. It is property of the United States. It is a piece of real estate that contains animals and varmints upon its slopes that must be "harvested" and "controlled" with guns and poisons. The timber is a valuable resource and it must not be the subject of political gymnastics as individuals within the American government and the corporate society connive to manipulate the income from the sale of the forest to their personal advantage.

Neither the individuals of the American government nor the individuals of the corporate state "see" the thousands of life forms that are a part of that forest. They do not "see" the bacteria necessary to grow the forest, they do not "see" the animals and birds that are displaced or destroyed as the mountains are shaved clean of forests. They do not "see" the insects and the butterflies of the forest as an element in balance with the universe. However, they do see this mountain as an object that can be "developed" to entertain the skier and the mountaineer. The dream of constructing villages upon its beautiful slopes and of constructing roads around it. In their "land use" plans, civilization intends to create a circus of this majestic mountain of softly singing beauty.

A letter from Grandfather Craven Gibson arrived with a sense of urgency. He always claimed that he was born on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay around 1860--during the time when the U.S. government was using that rock as a detention center for Original Native People of the west.

While I could barely decipher his broken spelling and the individual letters that he had labored over (as he wrote "in American"), the fact that it came from him demanded immediate attention, as the elders of my Nation are the keepers of truths and treasures, keepers of wisdom and knowledge.

41

Page 42: Vortices of the American West Edited

My brother and I arrived at Grandfather Craven's home in Atwam (Big Valley, California) in the early evening. After a cup of bitter coffee from his stained mugs, we went outside to study the clear and perfect night sky. Grandfather did not talk about the universe, he talked about the moon. His was a message given in a controlled panic--as one who knows a disaster is about to occur but also understands that it would be more damaging to try to warn the people. The early night was solemn. There was a hush, a quiet. Not even a coyote howled. Wind, still. Wild, silent.

With a gnarled hand, our ninety year old grandfather pointed to the full moon of August, 1973 and said, "Can you see the scars upon the face of the moon, the injured land? That is what my grandmother spoke of long ago. When I was a child long ago, she said there was a war. It was a big war between the people--a war between the thinkings. There was a terrible war. It was between those people who did not care about life and did not care if the moon remained a dwelling place, and those others who wanted the moon to remain a good place to live. That war used up the moon. When the moon caught fire there wasn't even enough water to put it out. It was all used up. The moon burned. It cooked everything. That huge fire cooked everything. Just everything."

We went back into his old and crooked shack and he talked until breaking light about the eroding condition of earth and the eroding condition of the spirit of humanity.

Because Grandfather wanted us to observe the moon, we went outside and stood with him in the early chill. The old people call it Lok-mhe, the light just before the sliver of dawn. He told us of his fears of how this earth could be itamiji-uw (all used up) if all of the people of all of the world do not correct their manner of wasting resources and amend their arrogant disregard for all of life.

There was a thickness under the brilliance of a million dancing stars in the moments before first light. Thirty miles to the north, Akoo-Yet shivered white against the velvet cold black. We were surrounded by the immense silence upon the ancient land of our people of the Pit River Nation, on the flat land of Atwam where the Pit River meanders towards the sea.

(According to legend, the moon bumped earth at Atwam, making a huge circular indentation--as if the surrounding mountains were pushed out by an immense pressure. The mole people, it is said, dug under the moon and with a united thrust, shoved the moon back into its present orbit.)

Our talk turned to Akoo-Yet. "The power that balances the universe, Mis Misa, dwells there," Grandfather said, nodding a white head in the direction of the shining mountain. We knew that we were about to hear another story so old that time could not erode it and so real that only truth and understanding could recognize it.

An old coyote howled in a black canyon somewhere to the south. An owl glided nearby, wings whispering upon the darkness, huge eyes searching for slight movements in the sea of darkness. Over near the mountains there was a soft roaring sound of falling waters as the winds brushed the thousand pines. The perfume of sage moved all around us. A meteor streaked across the night sky, a white arrow--vanished--as if it were but a part of an imagination.

42

Page 43: Vortices of the American West Edited

In our custom, one is not supposed to intrude into the silence created while someone who is telling a story hesitates to either search for proper words or to allow the listener time to comprehend. At this moment, however, I thought Grandfather should be aware of some plans for the most precious mountain of all of the mountains of his life. "Grandfather, did you know the white man wants to make buildings upon Akoo-Yet?"

After a deliberate silence Grandfather's frozen posture relaxed. His hands made an outward gesture, showing his worn palms for an instant. The he said, "Can you say why the white man wants to make buildings there.?"

Sometimes I explained things to him like he was a child, but he was a wise, old person. "It is for money and entertainment. They have a ski lift on the mountain now so the people who want to slide down the slopes don't have to climb up there. They ride on a chair. The chairs are pulled to the highest point by huge cables. The cables are held up in the air by towers much like those used by PG&E to move electricity through huge wires from here to San Francisco. Now they want to make a town on the mountain--a city."

There was another silence. Then with the tired motions of an old grizzly bear, Grandfather said, "It must be time to tell the white people the story of Mis Misa." His story began when the present universe was made:

"When Quon (Silver-gray Fox), the power that created all that we know, and Jamol (the coyote power that still wants to change all that Quon has created) were through with making this land, it is said, Great Power made a law, a rule. It is hard to say. It is a rule or a law or something like that. I will call it a 'law,' but somebody else will call it a 'rule.'

"This 'law,' Great Power placed it within Akoo-Yet. But before, that mountain was just another mountain. By placing the 'Lay' in there, Quon made Akoo-Yet the most powerful of all mountains. He gave the mountain a real job. My Grandmother told me of the 'law.' It is known as Mis Misa by our people. I have never heard it called anything else. It is a small thing. You cannot see it, but you can hear it singing--if you listen carefully."

There was a long pause. We waited. Often much of the meaning of messages that our elders offer is in the quiet between sentences, sometimes it is just a hesitation. But, again, the silence could last for an unbearably long time. It is certain, however, that when you are in the presence of the old ones and they feel it is time for them to continue they simply proceed and you must not forget where they left off--even if the story is continued a year later.

In these long moments of silence I thought of how delicate and intricate the universe really is. Sun shines. Rain falls. Trees grow. Fish swim. Birds fly. Rainbows arch. Earth turns. Seasons change. Grass turns green. But what immense knowledge stirs the universe and yet holds life in a manzanita seed for years before it is heated, dampened, then sprouts?

I thought of the many religions which claim that their particular acknowledgment of a particular belief or a particular power is the answer. Then there is other knowledge that challenges the weakness of "believing," stating that belief can be changed to easily. Therefore, to know is to be closer to truth.

43

Page 44: Vortices of the American West Edited

I reasoned that there probably is not an explanation for the phenomenon of all of existence within the psyche of humanity when there is a "belief" involved because argument could replace the present" belief." (I would have to agree with anybody who said that Coyote fashioned "belief" from a "truth" made by Quon but altered, just a little--to make it better).

All of nature seems to be in balance with some completeness, some wholeness that most humans are denied access to.

Breaking the silence Grandfather continued, "We are told to be careful. Be careful while near this mountain. Always come to this mountain with a good heart. Mis Misa knows what you are thinking--always think good thoughts. Listen. If you do not listen you will not hear the singing and this is not respectful. It is like breaking a commandment of the white man's God, they say. You could be punished. Your whole family could be punished--even the children, the babies. That's what they say.

"The purpose of Mis Misa is but one: To balance the earth with the universe and the universe with the earth. When Quon created earth and universe long ago, that power understood many things. Also, that power knew that it could not make everything just right. That's a wise power. For this reason power made Mis Misa and put Mis Misa within the mountain. It lives there. You can hear it singing. Remember always this power. It balances the universe. It is a 'law.' It knows what you are thinking."

Grandfather continued to explain how Mis Misa works. It is like a free-swinging pendulum combined with a gyroscope. If the earth wanders slightly off course, Mis Misa adjusts itself to that change. If the stars are slightly off course, Mis Misa adjusts itself to that change also. It is never at rest. It is constantly adjusting. It is forever singing.

Grandfather continued, "My Grandmother was born there (on the moon), so I know. I know because she told me. She told me many things. Many things she told me. That's how I know. My Grandmother was born on the moon. She knew many things and she told me.

"She told how chool (the moon) was the last 'earth' but it was itamji-uw (all used up). At one time it was pretty. At one time it was cute. There was life everywhere. Just everywhere there was life. There was happiness. Happiness everywhere. But a wrongful power come. I don't know where it came from, but it came. From somewhere it come and it denied the people.

"It used chool. That wrongful power, it used it up.

"My Grandmother said it, that's how I know the moon was the last earth."

We again studied Chool glowing full and strong in the silver of dawn.

"Look for signs of war and destruction," Grandfather said. "Do you see there, the ripping as with a flint knife? Over there a bruise. Over there a long scar. There was aches and there was pains. Do you see what my Grandmother said? Can you see the place there where there was war and destruction? Do you now know why Chool is scarred and bruised and scratched?".

44

Page 45: Vortices of the American West Edited

In silence we studied the moon. We wondered about it. I longed to know the exact reason why it is no longer an earth, why there no longer is life dwelling there. My mind raced backwards through on unknown measurement of time until it "saw" the moon, green and blue and covered with life--then my focus returned to the whimpering moon turning around earth and sun in some magnetic loneliness today. Something inside my spirit, a bell or an alarm went off! With a trembling voice, Grandfather's words pierced my thoughts once more as he pursued the story.

"It is said that the power that created earth and the universe made one mistake. It made 'vanity.' 'Vanity' makes a person love himself and nothing else. Nothing else. It is said, we must constantly guard against becoming a part of that wrong, that no good. We must be good to one another. It is easy to be bad to one another. We must not be bad to one another. We must be good to earth. We must be good to life. do not kill life. We have no choice. This earth is the last place. We call it atas-p-im mukuya (to stop, last place)..We have no place else to go. We must go back to the stars.

"When chool was close to being all used up," Grandfather continued, "the people threw their songs out into the vastness. Out there. It was a long time. Our people were in a big hurry, but it was a long time. Then, earth began to be made by that song. Just by that song! It was prepared. It was green and brown and blue.

"One day during the last war, the war between the thinkings, chool caught on fire. There was fire everywhere. It was flames. People were cooking to death. Everything was cooking to death. Earth was the closest. The people jumped. We landed here in our nation. The other people landed in their nation." Weet-la (the demon spirit) landed on an island beyond east salt waters, it is said. "the last to jump was frog. Frog jumped here because he was afraid if he stayed on chool he would have to walk like wee-la, so frog came, too."

It was not many seasons later when we found Grandfather. His spirit had proceeded to its rendezvous with destiny. He was looking up into forever with clouded eyes. How I longed to seek more answers from his wisdom, but he could not hear mortal beings, now. There were so many "whys" that I needed answers to. There were so many "whys" the whole earth needed answers to.

Once he showed us where he was going if he died. There was a small spot near the handle of the big dipper that appeared to be unoccupied. That was his destination. There is a glint there now.

I had a dream...In that dream I watched Grandfather as he fashioned another "earth" from the "star" that he had created with his power. He labored and labored. He did not see me watching him. He hammered and chiseled. He planted and trimmed. He watered and molded. He stopped a moment to survey his work then smiled and labored again. His old and crooked hands were worn thin with a new employment, a new purpose. He did this and he did that as he prepared a new earth.

Then the light of the "star" hesitated. It glimmered like the light bulb in his ancient lamp. It flickered. It went out. Grandfather yet toiled. "Star" turned green and blue and brown. It turned green with trees and spring. It turned blue with water and with clouds of singing birds. It turned brown with herd of deer and mounds of earth. There were bears and flowers. There was soft drumming and happiness. There was life dancing, dancing in a new sunshine.

45

Page 46: Vortices of the American West Edited

From his star, Grandfather turned and pointed his index finger at the top of Akoo-Yet. In my dream I felt Mis Misa shift ever so slightly. Perhaps it wasn't a dream. Maybe Grandfather is, at this moment, laboring to make another "earth" so that we might have a place to go if life is again itamji-wu (used up).

I look across the earth seeing so much unnecessary destruction. Forests are being erased throughout this entire hemisphere and around the world. Most rivers are sick and dying. The sky is gray over the huge cities. The air stinks. Pavement covers the meadows where flowers are supposed to grow. Mountains are being moved and removed. Rivers are diverted and the water terribly polluted. Earth is being drilled into and her heart and her guts and her blood are being used as private property for private gain.

There is an immense vacuum where the spiritual connection between human beings and nature is supposed to be--that umbilical cord that we inherited long before our birth and we were instructed to nurture and to protect for all of the existence of our nations. It seems as though too many people think that nature is an element that they are not a part of. They, like the old Coyote, think that nature, life, must be tamed, must be challenged, must be conquered, must be changed in order to make it better.

History has unveiled many battles and many wars. In this era, we can look back through the pages of time like changing channels on the TV. Yes, there have been some terrible wars. Yes there has been much destruction. Yes, some wars have engaged the entire world.

But those conflicts were over human supremacy--which king or which governing entity would rule the masses and control the bounty of earth. Who would be the master over all of the people and who would control the wealth. Whose gnarled dreams would be unleashed at which time in history to make an indelible mark urged through vanity.

In these conflicts mother earth was treated as a woman slave. She had to yield the materials that were needed to continue the conflagration. She had to yield the waters for the thirsty battalions. She had to yield fruit and food to feed the armies that marched. She had to provide the medicine to heal the wounded. She had to provide the bounty that was the crown for the victor!

These are new times. The whole earth is threatened with extinction. No longer is it acceptable for human beings to contend for the supreme pinnacle of the various societies of earth; from this moment forward there must be a battle, there must be an intense war.

But this time for the salvaging of earth. This time to see whether or not there will be only a "moon" left here one day after all of the products are used up, after the balance of existence has turned for the worse, and after vanity has led us down a time-path that has an absolute expiration date (and, before we discover that my dream of Grandfather was simply that).

46

Page 47: Vortices of the American West Edited

Yes, Grandfather's story is only an Indian story. But it is a story with evidence--the moon. It is a story that has endured time and maintains its direction and its solemn concern. There is a moon--there is also Mis Misa. Not once have I encountered a reference to that beautiful power within that sacred mountain--while "constructionists" and "progressivess" plot the future of development of Akoo-Yet. The "constructionists" see Akoo-Yet as a piece of valuable real estate. They fail to see its sacred value. For how many more seasons can these mistakes find pardon within nature?

My thoughts lead me to walk among the stars every morning during the silver just before dawn, lok-mhe, ringing in my ears the worried words of Grandfather: "When I was a child long ago, my Grandmother said there was a war. It was a big war between the people--a war between thinkings. There was a terrible war. That war used up the moon. When the moon caught fire there wasn't enough water to put it out. It was all used up."

I look upon the moon and worry. I look upon earth and see the corporate entities exercising greed and profit as their reasons for their existence. I children crying and hungry all around the world. I see the land of my Grandmother and Grandfather being used up.

Yes, there is a callousness in the manner that people have abused the world. Yes, environmentally oriented people must oppose that irresponsibility. Yes, children have a right to live in respect and harmony. Yes, Grandmothers and Grandfathers have an absolute right to peace and protection. Yes, we, the able and capable, have an absolute duty to defend our loved ones in their journey through life.

Yes, there will be a terrible and great war again. There must be, for the silver of dawn, first light, belongs to us all, equally. We must not deny its panorama to anybody--especially those we are, by our spirit, bound to protect forever.

We should not fear. Besides the dawn of day and the strength of the power that turns earth around the sun and the sun around a greater wonder, we have, as an ally, Mis Misa.

MEMORIES OF THE HOMELAND OF THE NEZ PERCEIn August of 1993, I moved to Enterprise, Oregon. That night there was a terrible

thunderstorm with high winds and lightning which killed three horses in various places and hit the pay phones in town.

Two weeks later, in the evening I stood on a small hill near the dam to the lake on the old Indian burial ground. In the distance toward the town I saw a lot of Indians on horses coming up to where I was standing. They were dressed in finery and rode horses painted with various signs. Evidently the Nez Perce were there for some ceremony, and I thought, "Here come the People." I looked again, but I saw only wisps of smoke where the Indians on horses had been.

Then I remembered my life as a young woman in Chief Joseph's band. I was about sixteen years old and had a young husband who was killed early on in the fighting on our flight. Although the record says there were no casualties, he was killed at the battle near Whitebird Hill in Idaho. I visited that place in this life, and cried for the rest of the day. As Indians, we were not to show emotion, so I cried now for when I couldn’t then.

When were were given the ultimatum to leave our lands, we had to cross the Snake River in high water in early spring on horses, trying to manage small children and babies. The young men easily held the children on the swimming horses in front of them, but the mothers carried the babies on their backs. Then we lunged and climbed up steep mountains into what is now Idaho.

Joseph (this wasn't his real name) hated fighting and killing and wasn't really all that much of a warrior. The other old men in the tribe, however, were very good at it. Mostly, Joseph was a gentle kind-hearted mystic. His father was my grandfather, so Joseph was a half-uncle of mine. I didn't know him very well, but I was close to Old Grandpa, his father, who had died by that time. On the trail, I helped the old women care for the children and tried to keep them from being scared--hard to do when you're scared yourself. I still have an absolute horror of being out in the wilderness in early snow without proper equipment or food to keep warm. I lasted until the whites moved us back east, then I got TB and died, but mostly I died because I didn't want to live any more.

It was good to come back here and remember our happy times living in this place. In the fall we would move down into the Imnaha Canyon near Hell's Canyon on the Snake River to spend the winter. When spring came, we slowly moved back up to the lake area, taking a week or more and driving many, many horses in front of us. When we reached the top of the trail where we could see the mountains for the first time, we stopped for a day of ceremonies and prayer for the Spirits in the Mountain Peaks.

The land is all cleared now, but back then, the valley was covered with big trees. We stayed away from the lake because that was Sacred Ground, and, other than medicine people, we almost never went up into the high mountain lakes. In the fall, we did go up to the lake for fish which we dried for winter. Now there are summer homes and resorts on this lake, and I’ve heard that there are plans for a development of upscale homes on the morraine.

HOME OF THE NEZ PERCE

By Lorae Ireland

Wind from the Universe wanders over EarthAs do I, from place to place and life to life,Like smoke from fire dancing the eternal danceTo the drum of spiritIn misty shadow and brilliant light.

I return with remembered pain,With lightning, roaring wind and crashing rain.I come back,Softly and gently, caressing with delightLike warm spring showersFalling on mountain flowers in rainbow light.

I am in this place, our ancient home,Land of clearest skies and aquamarine waters,Land of elk, deer and salmon,A sacred place, hidden from the world on a high plateau,The abode of Mighty Spirit in snowy peaks of splendor.

I hike through fir, spruce and singing pine.Dancing waters carve marble rocks. The flicker sings, dropping a brilliant feather. Mountain peaks say "Welcome, welcome back." Red-Tailed Hawk sails above the valley below. My heart is full.

SWEAT LODGEBy Lorae Ireland

We build a Medicine Lodge,Giving prayer to the Red Dogwood,We gather special rocks below vermilion banksAnd from deep hidden canyons.

The lodge is large and strong,A circle of Good Medicine.

On our knees, we enter the hutSmoked with sage from a high place. In the steaming dark,Rocks glow red and hiss with searing heat.

50

Page 51: Vortices of the American West Edited

Shaking rattles,We pray, we sing, we chant,

We sweat in Pain.Naked bodies lose all pretense,Souls are bared and cleansed. We stagger out to break ice,Immersing burning bodies in cold water.

Back into the lodge,We are young children againwhen the world was new.

Bright sparkles, mimicking stars above, fill the steaming lodge.

In the dark mist, spirits speak.

We sing some more,We give thanks and praise.Emerging, we are renewed and changedShaking with clear glowing light.

TO MOTHER EARTH By Lorae Ireland

Thou art beautiful in our hearts, and we love thee.Blessed art thou in all of creation. The Jewell of the Universe.

We bless thee in the pure rays of the rising sun.We listen at high mountain springs to the birds of morningAs they sing of hope and promise a new tomorrow.Dancing water spirits play with rocks of quartz and silver,Spring flowers in green grasses lift out hearts.

Thy mountains are our hope and our life,Where angels sing with mighty power from high clear spaces,And the craigs echo with joy to the orchestra of light,Heralding the new age to come,When all our animal teachers will dwell in balance upon thy breast.

Buffalo will return to ancient homelands,Bringing life and power to the flowing plains,Below purple clouds and rain,Where storms of lightning connect to Father Sky above,Bursts of brilliant energy in the black horizon below moon clouds.

We walk in reverence though ancient forests,Beneath enormous beings existing in a slower and greater dignity. We thank them for their love and care.May they live until the end of time.

The oceans. Oh, the oceans. How can I speak of the oceans, oh my brothers, How can I speak of all creation? It is upon the vast reaches of these wondersThat the winds of time interact with Earth. Expressing the emotion and creativity inThe Dance of our Divine Mother and Father.

We send our love and protection to our brothers in the sea,The whales and dolphins who broadcast the state of our world to the stars. We beg forgiveness for abuses done by others lost in darkness. And we bless the salmon who connect the land to the sea.Let not their anger tear apart our continent.May our good help and intentions return them to traditional waters.

Ho! Let it be so.All is good. All is well.Blessed are we to be with thee,And may we live with thee in harmony and peace forever.

KEY TO MAP GUIDE:

All precise locations of vortexes are underlined.

A precise location of a vortex on a mountain-top is shown in Boldface and underlined. Mt. Ashland--OR indicates the very summit of that mountain.

Sometimes a vortex is located close to, or in, a city or town. Because these vortexes have not been precisely located, such as the one at SANTA BARBARA, CA, they are in capitals. If I think I know where a vortex is, like the SOUTH END of Santa Catalina Island, I will show it in underlined capitals.

Other precise vortices are only near a well-known area or city, such as the vortex north of Reno, Nevada, which is actually about fifteen miles north of the city. These vortices will be underlined, but not capitalized, as in Reno, NV.

Derived vortices, precise spots where three or more ley lines cross, are also underlined. Their names are from nearby mountains, creeks, airports, or whatever I could find. These spots will be difficult for you to pinpoint without drawing the ley lines on a large map. They are often in very remote, uninhabited areas, and may not be safe to visit. They will be shown this way: Owyhee--NV (dv)--the (dv) indicating that this is a derived vortex.

Areas in italics are generalized areas that a ley line passes through, such as Salton Sea--CA. These areas are, obviously, something important, but do not seem to be precise foci. The Great Salt Lake, the Black Hills, Puget Sound, Yellowstone Lake, etc., are some of these areas. (Ley lines often cross lakes, as if to get a drink.) Many mountain passes and mountain lakes are included.

Some airports and small towns are noted only as a means of pinpointing a point on a ley line. This does not mean that they are, or are not, vortices. They are shown in regular print, as Newport, WA.

• A bullet denotes the beginning point of a ley line. This does not mean that the line actually begins there, but that is the point on that line that I chose to start from in my description of that line within a system.

This book is organized by vortex (in bold capitals, as VORTEX), and every vortex is described as the crossing point (hub) of various ley lines (spokes). Each ley line begins with bullet, and is described by the other vortices, derived vortice, airports, towns, or general areas it passes through. Each point on the ley line is separated by a slash.

Because this can best be understood visually, as a gestalt, this book consists mainly of technical descriptions of the relationships of vortices to each other and is a guide to lay out these systems on a large map. Don't expect to get the full picture by simply reading. To get a really good gestalt of these systems of spokes and hubs, draw them on a World Aeronautical Chart--or a Sectional Chart for more detail. (Pilots have to replace these maps every ninety days, so there is a possibility of getting them free.) There are systems within systems, and one can go all the way down to large-scale topographic maps to find local systems of vortices and ley lines.

53

Page 54: Vortices of the American West Edited

In the future, I hope to put this in computer format using GIS (Geographical Information Systems), but for now, this awkward method of describing a visual system in words will have to do. Photocopies of my maps accompany descriptions of many of the vortices.

MAP GUIDE:

MAJOR CONFIGURATIONS

RETURN FOCUS TRIANGLEThere is no other place in the world like this unique configuration. The area surrounding the

whole Upper Rogue River in Oregon could be a National Park, like Yellowstone, a sacred area to those wise ones who lived on this land for thousands of years before we came here with our peculiar ideas of land ownership and exploitation.

The apexes of this triangle are at Eight Dollar Mountain, near Selma, Oregon (page 52), Mt. Scott to the east of Crater Lake (page 50) and the summit of Mt. Shasta in California (page 65). A perceptive friend noted that this triangle with the line through it is the ancient symbol of the Yoni (perhaps this pertains to its function, as a place of returning, or entering).

The sides of this triangle are:

• MCVAY ROCK south of Brookings, OR/ Eight Dollar Mountain/ OREGON VORTEX/ INDIAN BATTLEGROUND south of Lost Creek Dam--OR/ Rogue River Gorge--OR/ Mt. Scott -- OR/ Winema--OR(dv)/ Monument Rock--OR/ BUTTE, MT/ War Horse Nat'l Wildlife Refuge--MT/ continuing on North-East.

• TICHNOR ROCK, Point Orford, OR/ Eight-Dollar Mountain--OR/ Mt. Shasta--CA/ Honey Lake--CA/ Reno, NV/ TONOPAH, NV/ Grand Wash, NV (dv)/ Peach Springs, AZ (dv)/ Prescott, AZ/ MIAMI, AZ/ Animas Peak--NM

• END OF BOLINAS BAY--CA/ Petaluma, CA/ Redding Airport--CA/ Mt. Shasta--CA/ Mt. Scott--OR/ Mt. Jefferson--OR/ Mt. Hood--OR/ Snoqualmie Pass--WA/ Newhelem, WA

The following ley line starts at the OREGON VORTEX9, and may go all the way to an island in the Pacific. It reminds me of a string, and the Return Focus Triangle is the kite on the end of that string (or a landing pattern).

• OREGON VORTEX near Gold Hill, OR/ Mt. Ashland--OR / Mt. Shasta--CA/ BIG BEND HOT SPRINGS , CA / Mt. Lassen--CA/ Mt. Baldy--CA/ GUADELOUPE, MX/ on out into the Pacific Ocean, possibly ending at Easter Island

MT. SCOTT

You can hike to an old Forest Service lookout at the summit of this defunct volcano on the east side of Crater Lake in Oregon. This is one of the apexes of the RETURN FOCUS TRIANGLE. The following first two ley lines are two of the sides of that triangle.

• END OF BOLINAS BAY--CA/ Petaluma, CA/ Rancho Tehama Airport--CA/ Redding Airport--CA/ Mt. Shasta--CA/ Aspen Butte--OR/ Mt. Scott/ 7500' Mountain north of Mt. Thielsen--OR/ Mt. Jefferson--OR/ Mt. Hood--OR/ on north

EIGHT DOLLAR MOUNTAIN56

Page 57: Vortices of the American West Edited

This conical mountain of serpentine near Selma, Oregon, is the western apex of the Return Focus Triangle. It is as if all the ley lines converge at this mountain before sinking into the trench off the coast, which is like a giant antenna, pulling all deep into the Earth. Eight-Dollar-Mountain, along with the whole Siskiyu Range, has the most peculiar geology, mineral formations, fauna and flora. The Siskiyu's run east and west, and contain many rare plants and animals, for they have both northern and southern climates.

STARS IN THE MARBLE MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIAThis series of stars within stars was shown me by Spirit Teachers. They told me to look for a configuration of stars on a Forest Service map of the Klamath National Forest. After getting that map, I marked all the larger mountains with red dots. I stayed up quite late that night trying to see the pattern of the stars but finally went to bed in defeat. However, the next morning I immediately "followed the dots," bringing out a series of stars within stars, described below.

A large, perfect six-pointed star encircles a smaller six-pointed star which encloses a five-pointed star with a triangle in the center. This five-pointed star is within yet another perfect six-pointed star formed by the indent points of the first two. The Indians were aware of this configuration, given the names of "Medicine" mountain and Big and Little Medicine Creeks in the very core. Medicine Mountain is sacred to the Karuk Indians.

Here is a message from Spirit Teachers:

"We come to tell you of the wonders of the Earth you live on, wonders forgotten by the race of man long, long ago. We come to remind you of who you truly are. You are not yet prepared to receive that knowledge in full, and we will begin gently, slowly, carefully: Know that this Earth of yours is a marvel, and that you are one with Her. As the configurations of the surface hint at larger realities, so your very physiology is an amazing living communications instrument, an instrument long unused.

The woman writing this has pledged herself to service to us and to all mankind. This instrument was put to partial use to bring this old, forgotten knowledge to the consciousness of humans now on Earth: We speak now of the Stars in the Marble Mountain Wilderness of Northern California. This is, indeed, a sacred area, the portals of, as you would say, the Gods. The five-pointed star is man, the six, the cosmos. Know that five and twelve are here for you to know, see, feel and use. We ask that mathematicians, the highest philosophers, meditate upon these symbols embodied in the mountains, and understand that of which we have shown thee.

We also hope that young people, and older people who are young--those with open minds and pure, open bodies--explore this area and ask to communicate with us, for this area is, indeed, the greatest Portal of all on Earth, and many wonders have been and will be in this place.

That is all."From my journal, April, 1992:

Teachers: "The Stars in the Marble Mountain Wilderness ARE THE KEY TO LIBERATION."

Me: "If so, I ask for your protection."

"We have always been with thee."

"Thank you. How are they the key?"

“For you to know the truth.

They are our portal for transportation and communication. You, also, can leave the Earth through this portal."

VISION QUEST into the center of the Stars in the Marble Mountains

For the fall equinox of 1994, I hiked into the center triangle with my friend, R. His friend K drove all the way from Massachusetts to assist. Before we started, as we were putting our gear in the car at Takelma across the Oregon border, we saw the smoke clouds boiling up over the mountains to the south. We drove over the pass and stopped at the Happy Camp Ranger Station to ask about the fires. They told us that three fires had sprung up with 100 foot-high walls of flame. When we looked at the map, each appeared to be just outside the three sides of the center triangle of the Stars. Nevertheless we drove on down to Somme's Bar to the trailhead. In the trailhead parking lot, we hesitated in confusion. K. said that because of the fires, he wasn't going in, but R. intrepidly began packing his backpack for a quick hike in and out. He told us that if he wasn't back by four days to expect him to be on the top of Medicine Mountain. I half-heartedly decided that the least I could do would be to hike with him as far as camp that night to give some moral support. I told K. that if I didn't come out the next day to know that I had gone on in with R.

The next morning was fine and the trail easy. I felt safe and it didn't seem too difficult a thing to continue on into the center. We hiked twelve miles that day on good trail that repeatedly climbed above the creek several hundred feet, then dipped down to climb again. With the anxiety to get there by the equinox at 11 that night, I got very tired climbing and hiking in the heat. We arrived at the mouth of medicine creek about eight p.m. and collapsed into our sleeping bags on the rocks.

We slept like the dead, and woke up about 10 in the morning. When R. first stood up he looked like a transparent blue cutout, then my eyes saw him in a normal way. We swam in the creek, crossed it and hiked a short distance into the triangle. At a high point where the trail changed direction we did a short ceremony, planted some crystals, said some prayers and invoked LIBERATION. We didn't stay much longer than half an hour because R. pointed out that those white flakes floating down were not snowflakes. We hiked five miles back to an old cabin where the trial forked to Medicine Mountain. At that place we made camp early because we were both still quite tired. The next day we came out at the trailhead about three in the afternoon. Amazingly, K. was waiting for us. He told us that the area had been evacuated because of the fires, and that he’d planned to send a search party for us if we didn’t show up by nightfall. No wonder we’d had the trail all to ourselves! We went to a cafe in Happy Camp and had the best hamburgers and cokes ever. Then we drove up the Klamath and across the Applegate back to Takilma.

K. left for Sedona and on to Egypt the next morning and R. and I for the Puget Sound Area where he lives in his artist studio near Chief Seattle's grave. We got there two days later after a leisurely wander up the coast. I went to visit my sisters and parents in Sequim. Late that night I got a phone call from K., who had already called R. He asked if I had seen the papers. I told him "No," and he said that the night after we came out at the trailhead, a huge green "meteorite" had screamed in from the east and landed in the Marble Mountains. People as far south as the Bay Area saw it. As excited as a child, I yelled, "We did it!"

For your quest: Before you go, get maps of the Klamath National Forest and the Marble Mountain Wilderness from the Forest Service at Happy Camp, California. Plot out the pattern of the Stars on both maps. Be sure to fix the position of the center triangle on the Wilderness map, because you'll need that information to know when you're there. From Somme's Bar on the Klamath River it's a two-day backpack into the center of the Stars. Of course, tell someone where you're going and when you plan to get back. Horse packers are available if contacted a week or so in advance--the Forest Service has a list.

62

Page 63: Vortices of the American West Edited

Plan to arrive in the triangle at a new moon, a full moon, or some special time of the year. Weather permitting, in the summer you can take a side trip up to the top of Medicine Mountain from the cabin on the creek--allow at least another two days. I wouldn't plan to go up there when there's a possibility of snow. Be careful, be sober, be mindful, and act from a centered state of integrity--this can be tricky business. And, at all times, pay special attention to the animals and birds that you see.

Aside from the side trip up Medicine Mountain, the main trail stays at a fairly low altitude all the way in. After a seventeen-mile walk on good trail along the creek, you'll come to the big creek that drains Big Medicine Creek and Little Medicine Creek. Cross it and camp on the other side. Carry old tennis shoes with you to wade it--it's no fun barefoot. It's very good to fully immerse your unclothed body in the water at the ford because that place contains water from both Big and Little Medicine Creeks.

At your camp on the other side, hang food where brother bear can't get into it--there are lots of black bears in the area. (By the way, you're less likely to be bothered by them if you carry no meat with you.) Then go on into the triangle and plan to fast in the triangle for three days. You might get a little chilly while fasting so bring a tent, a good sleeping bag and warm clothes. Drink the water from the creek--this will align you with the energies there. You'll fall into an extremely pleasant lethargy in that place, and will almost feel as if you were on drugs. Don't be lured into staying there longer than three days. After that, break camp and cross back over the creek, then stop and eat. Take your time hiking out. When you get home, write what happened in a journal, but don't immediately talk about your trip to others--keep the energy within you.

Plot out this series of stars-within-stars on a US Forest Service map of the Klamath National Forest. There is a meridian line through the center, so some of the Range and Townships are on one side of it and others are on the other side. This configuration stands alone, and is not connected to other vortices.

WYOMING

BIGHORN MEDICINE WHEEL This powerful vortex is up in the Bighorn Mountains east of Lovell, WY. Midsummer and later is the time to visit, since the snow stays, and falls, late. You will see the most brilliant wildflowers, especially Forget-Me-Nots of a really incredible blue, almost etheric in hue. Please treat the Medicine Wheel with respect, and do not walk across it or touch the stones.

Another magical place to visit near here is Paint Rock, east of Hyattville, Wyoming. To the west of the creek and campground is a rock of hieroglyphs. Wonderful backpacking in April; many deer, birds, and other wildlife in a magical canyon. Carry water and watch for snakes; they mean you no harm, and will, if enough awake, hurry to hide away from you.

If you like hot springs, go to the facilities in Thermopolis, which they say is the world's largest hot springs. Sometimes, you can soak in the (free) outdoor hot pool while gazing at buffalo on the hill above, and imagine yourself to be an indian from long ago.

MONTANABEARTOOTH MOUNTAINS--MT

CRAZY WOMAN MOUNTAINS--MTFind the Crazy Woman Mountains north of Livingston, Montana.

The Beartooth Mountains near Yellowstone Park are highly magnetized. Two vortexes in that area are Mt. Wood and Granite Peak. To get the thrill of your life, in late summer drive up into Yellowstone Park from Red Lodge, Montana through Cooke City on Beartooth Pass. The road climbs to ten thousand feet, and the scenery, camping and wildflowers are out of this world. You can see "watermelon snow" all summer. I spent one whole summer camping every weekend in these mountains. Once, I saw a wolverine scurrying out of sight on a snow cornice above a U-curve on Beartooth Pass. I'll probably never see another in my life.

EIGHT DOLLAR MOUNTAIN--OR

This conical mountain of serpentine is the western apex of the Return Focus Triangle. It is as if all the ley lines converge at this mountain before sinking into the trench off the coast, which is like a giant antenna, pulling all deep into the Earth. Eight-Dollar-Mountain, along with the whole Siskiyu Range, has the most peculiar geology, mineral formations, fauna and flora (carnivorous plants on this mountain). The Siskiyu's run east and west, and contain many rare plants and animals, for they have both northern and southern climates.

This vortex is on the ley line beginning at the Oregon Vortex (which is situated on the line between Eight-Dollar Mountain and Mount Scott), going through the very summits of Mt. Ashland, Mt. STEENS MOUNTAIN--STEENS MT. AREA

The aeronautical charts indicate enormous magnetic disturbance in this area in the center of the GIANT TRIANGLE OF THE WEST, page 63, forming two triangles touching apex to apex, one north, one south. These triangles are just to the west of Steens Mountain in Southwestern Oregon. On September 14, 1990, a Sri Yanta pattern appeared on the Mickey Basin, east of Steens Mountain. Also, on the Alvord desert, a circle was divided into 14 pie-shapes by what looked like telephone poles.

The following lines describe the two triangles of ley lines in this amazing area.

CONCLUDING REMARKS

A few months ago, I asked my psychic friend, the 400-pound fellow mentioned in the preface, about a recurring dream of mine. In that dream, I can fly, but I'm always trapped underneath power lines and cannot get above them.

He didn't immediately get an answer, but one day when out walking he "saw" a small mesh ball, about the size of a golf ball. The further it expanded, the larger the mesh grew. It had lines on it as it got larger. Then he saw that it was the surface of the Earth and thought "Those are ley lines, the ley-line grid of the Earth!" He understood that they were magnetic and carried great power. "They expand unseen out into space--a blueprint of the universe, a fantastic network of electrical energies. At the intersections are built churches and temples. We are here: same above as below. These lines keep us here and from seeing the other side. Once you got above it you could float and soar. It was all part of the way the Earth interacted with the other planets."

He called me to say, "Now I understand why you were so excited about what you saw and why you wanted to put crystals up on the mountains!" (He and I had also spent many hours in meditation, prayers and chanting on certain mountains at the time of full moons.)

I hope that this book produces the same insights and emotions for its readers.
