A new exporting program will expand San Antonio’s presence in the international market.
Free Trade Alliance San Antonio launched its Export Management Program on Monday morning, unveiling the first five local com-panies that were selected to partici-pate in the program.
The companies, which hail from advanced manufacturing, aero-space and biomedical industries, include Coastal Life Systems, HALLCO Industries, Knight Aero-space, Medical Care Innovations and Sterling Pressure Systems.
At hand to make the announce-ment were President and CEO of Free Trade Alliance San Antonio Jose E. Martinez, Mayor Ivy Tay-
lor, Vice Chair and Board of Direc-tors for Free Trade Alliance San Antonio Joseph Newton and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and Managing Director of JP Morgan Chase Morris Camp.
The program, sponsored by JP Morgan, will take the companies through a series of steps including a one day intensive export boot camp which will prepare each company to create a plan for their product. The companies will also have a series of one-on-one meetings with professionals to identify new markets and prepare for two trade missions to Mexico.
“The companies must be in business for a certain amount of time and must have a service or a product that is marketable overseas because we know what the other

countries are buying,” Martinez told La Prensa. “We wanted the company to be committed to manu-facturing or doing their service or the product. The companies also knew that we were subsidizing the beginning [of the program] until the end if it was complete; however, if it was not completed, they will have to pay for the program.”
In 2013 the City of San Antonio in collaboration with the Brook-ings Institution completed a study and developed an Exports Plan for San Antonio. The goal was to understand the benefits of increased exports by creating a more diverse and export oriented economy in the city.
The plan was developed through the Global Cities Initiative, a five-year project developed by Brookings Institution and JP Mor-gan Chase, to help metropolitan cities strengthen their regional economies by becoming more com-petitive in foreign direct investment and exporting.
In the study, it was recorded that companies not involved in exporting showed disinterest due
to the lack of knowledge about opportunities that foreign markets offer and the lack of familiarity with the exporting process. As a result, nearly one-third of all the companies surveyed were more interested in expanding within the U.S. than in exploring international markets.
“For them, it is very exciting because they want to sell their product overseas…We expect the companies to sell the products, and they will need to expand, bring more people and sell more products. There will be lawyers involved, logistics involved, all kinds of activities created because of exports,” concluded Martinez.
Ultimately, the export manage-ment program will give companies the opportunity to start small and look into the vision of what they want for their business. The new program will allow them to gain the knowledge necessary to begin to export their product. Through the companies’ dedication, San Antonio will expand their export measures overseas to display what the growing city has to offer.

This month, a popular soft drink will make a splash at this year’s Fiesta with a little help from the Spurs.
For the past 79 years, Big Red Inc. has been one of the top 10 beverage companies in North America. Along with Big Red, recognized as the number-one selling red soda, Big Red Inc. has also made other soft drinks over-time that include favorites such as Big Red Zero, Big Blue, Big Peach, Big Pineapple, NuGrape and Nesbitt’s products.
“San Antonio was actually one of the first big markets that launched Big Red. It was created by a family that had some ties to San Antonio,” Thomas Oh, se-nior vice president of marketing at Big Red, told La Prensa. “The product is sweet and smooth; it carries a creamy taste that goes very well with spicy foods. “Knowing that Fiesta is a part of the big city as well as it be-ing the 125th year, we wanted to celebrate and have a little bit of elements of Fiesta in Big Red. We wanted to do that with our great friend Matt Bonner, who is also the only redhead in the NBA,” said Oh. “We wanted to create the medal in the spring because we have such a great relationship with Matt, and we felt that it made great sense to create kind of a Matt Bonner Big

This year, Artpace will celebrate a 21 year old evolution of art that began in San Antonio with a little help from Texan friends.
Artpace, founded in 1995, was ex-cited to announce that Fairfax Dorn and Virginia Lebermann, cofounders of Ballroom Marfa, will be the hon-orees for its annual fundraising gala, “The Happening,” with a speakeasy theme taking place on April 9.
In 2003, both women converted Ballroom Marfa into a dynamic,
contemporary cultural arts space where varied perspectives and issues were explored through visual arts, film, music and performance making them the perfect candidates for the celebration.
“It was kind of a natural progres-sion because Dorn is very involved with the Linda Pace Foundation and has a relationship with Artpace. She has been a Texas supporter and lover of art. She and Lebermann have built Texas and the artists within the world. It is kind of a celebration for both being a part of the Artpace fam-ily,” Anna Wulfe, co-chair of “The Happening,” told La Prensa.
The contemporary art gallery will also honor collectors and artists who have contributed to the growth of contemporary art in Texas over the past two decades. As the orga-nization’s biggest fundraiser, “The Happening” makes it possible for Artpace to support the most innova-tive artists, provide unique and free exhibitions, as well as as serve more than 14,000 students through educa-tional outreach.
“The mission has always reso-nated with the residency program and the education…Obviously when it started, just a handful of residents came through and now 21 years
later, there are nine residents a year that come through the program as well as the education,” said Wulfe. “It is well known nationally and in-ternationally, and continues to build
fundamentally.”If you are interested in attending
“The Happening” gala or want to know about table and ticket sales, please visit www.artpace.org.

CinderellaOnBroadway o www.MajesticEmpire.com.

All these food options follow the strict ¡Por Vida! nutritional criteria where a meal can be no more than 700 calories, 8 grams of saturated fat, zero grams of trans fat, 12 grams added sugar, and 750 mg of sodium. ¡Por Vida!-approved items may not be fried.

Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail. E.C.B.

St. Jude, helper of the helpless, pray for us. Say this prayer nine times a day. By the eight day your prayer will be answered. It has never been known to fail. Publication must be promised. Thank you St. Jude.M.A.L.V.R.V.P.
Holy Spirit. You that clarify everything. You illuminate all my paths so that I reach my goals. You give me the gift to be able to forgive and forget the wrong that they do to me. And in all the seconds in my life you are with me. In this short dialog. I want to thank you and confirm, once more that I never want to be separated from you. My desire is to be with you Lord and with my loved ones in your Holy Grace. Thank You for your blessings given to my loved ones and me.

El jueves visitan a Golden State.
