T H E B I G E The 48th Annual National EOC meet, to be hosted in Ogden, Utah
August 3 - 7, 2016 Please see registration and event schedule on Pages 4 and 5
It is now just three weeks until the 48th Annual EOC Meet in Ogden!
Mike Cowles has completed the design for the T-shirt graphics for the 2016 Ogden
meet. It is pictured below - and it is NOT too late to order a T-shirt or a polo shirt with
this illustration. Plus, T-shirts will be available for sale at the meet. Many, many
thanks to our very talented Mike Cowles for designing and illustrating the logo for
the upcoming EOC meet.
For those of you who are still considering attending the Ogden meet, but have not
made hotel reservations, there is GOOD NEWS! The hotel reservation deadline has
been extended all the way until the meet. You can make your reservation anytime
between now until after you have arrived at the meet.
It’s NOT too late to plan to attend!!

Hello again;
The seconds are counting down to the EOC convention in Ogden - please plan to at-
tend! It sounds like it will be a great time for all, with many things to see and do.
The picture shown here is from when David Watson and Susan Bizzell visited from
England this spring and bought the Edsel banner from American Pickers. David
bought it as kind of a "rescue mission" to get it into the hands of an Edsel hobbyist,
instead of gathering dust in a store. It was great visiting with David and Susan. They
won't be in Ogden, but want to come back next year for the Edsel's 60th anniversary
meet.
I see there is no nominee for president listed in this issue, but I hope that some
enthusiastic soul will decide to offer to take up the duties. I also want to say THANK
YOU so much for entrusting me with the position, and being so helpful and support-
ive. I hope I've done a good job. It is truly gratifying to see the position of esteem the
Edsel has, even in places around the globe where we never could have imagined 30
years ago.
The Edsel is a winner because of all of you!
Regards,
George

New Developments for the Ogden Meet By David Fleischer
I am pleased to announce that Phil Skinner is planning to attend the Ogden Meet. Phil is an internationally
regarded automotive historian who has authored many articles in automotive-related magazines such as
“Old Cars Weekly” and “Cars & Parts.” He has also contributed numerous articles for our publication, the Big
E newsletter. He is an expert on Edsels and many other Ford products from that era. He has done extensive
research at the Ford Archives in Dearborn and is very well versed on the history of the Edsel. Phil maintains a
record of over 10,000 Edsel dataplates. Phil has also physically studied hundreds, if not over a thousand,
Edsels. Phil will be helping with the judging of the Edsels at the Ogden meet. Those who will attend the meet
will have the opportunity to get acquainted with Phil Skinner. If your Edsel is present, Phil will likely point out
interesting things about your car that you may have not known about before.
Those of you who may have watched a recent episode of “American Pickers” will have noticed an original
Edsel showroom banner, just behind Danielle, when she was talking on the phone. This very banner, which
advertises the self-adjusting brakes, will be displayed at the Ogden meet! Our member from England, David
Watson, stopped at the American Pickers shop shortly after this episode was filmed and purchased the
banner. He then visited EOC President George Foran, and gave him the banner to bring to Ogden. The banner
will be offered at the parts auction, so all those who attend, will have an opportunity to bid on this banner.
There will be a reserve on the banner, and if it doesn’t meet the reserve, it will be returned to David Watson.
More information and photo of the banner is in President’s Letter on the previous page.
Recent Edsel Spottings on TV:
Robert Beyer of Monument, Colorado, who owns a
beautifully restored Bermuda 9-passenger wagon,
reports that he recently spotted an Edsel while
watching a movie on TV. The movie is titled, “Edge
of Eternity” and was filmed in 1959. Robert says
there were many neat 1950’s cars in the movie,
including an ice green and white 1958 Villager. The
wagon was only one year old when this movie was
made.
Ted Downer of Redwood City, who owns the Donna
Reed Show Bermuda, spotted a 1958 Pacer 4 door
sedan on “77 Sunset Strip” in season 1, episode 10.
This episode was filmed in 1958, so this Pacer was a
brand-new car when it appeared on this black & white
show.
