Easter lives at the intersection of worship and missions. Like Mary, we encounter the Risen Lord and fall down and worship. Also like Mary, we go to our brothers and sisters with the good news of the Resurrection of Jesus. Worship and missions go together during this holy season.
Sunday begins Holy Week. I hope that you will allow the special worship experiences to draw you close to the suffering and glory of our Lord:
Palm Sunday morning – join the chorus as we echo the Hosannas of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday night – Come to the Table of the Lord and participate in the Supper that was given so that we may remember what happened on the cross. Worship with us at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on April 5.
Good Friday – In the shadows of a Tenebrae service, let the words of Scripture and the musical selections from Handel’s MESSIAH bring you closer to the Crucified One. Join us in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6.
Easter Sunday – Come celebrate the Resurrection in First Fellowship at 8:15 or in Sanctuary Worship at 10:30. Join us for Bible Study at 9:15 on this special Sunday.
(Note: We will have our regular schedule of activities on Sunday night, April 1 and Wednesday night, April 4.)
Easter is not only a time for worship, it is a time for missions. We give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering which supports the work of the North American Mission Board (Southern Baptist Convention) and the Global Missions Offering (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship). Both of these groups need our gifts to support the work of missionaries on the field. We have a wonderful story to share. We have great people who have committed their lives to sharing the good news. Choose the group that you want to support and be generous in your giving.
Mary encountered the Risen Lord and her response was to worship and to go tell the good news. I hope that we will do the same.
On Sunday, April 1 at 6:00 PM in room 118 there will be a tutor training session for those tutors who work with math. On Wednesday, April 11 at 10:00 AM in room 118 there will be a tutor training session for those who help with reading. Caren Chua, the tutor coordinator, will lead both sessions. Please plan to be there if your schedule allows. Please note: during the two weeks of testing, April 9-13 and 16-20 there will be no tutor sessions but there are plans to continue the Monday morning early math labs.

Hope Davis who is our Ministry Assistant in the Adult Ministries Offices has recently resigned this position effective May 3. Hope has been working with Pam McDaniel (Minister to Young and Median Adults) and Mark Seanor (Minister to Experienced Adults) since the Spring of 2009. She has typically been the first person we talk to on the phone when we call the Adult Ministry office and has been responsible for many different facets of our adult ministry at FBC. As you see Hope over the next few weeks, share your
thanks to her for her service at First Baptist Church. Thank you Hope!
Easter Floral CrossesDuring this time of the year, we see a beautiful illustration of God’s love with the new life found in trees and flowers around us. We invite you to help us illustrate this new life with your family by bringing flowers to add to our Easter Floral Cross. There will be extra flowers in a bucket at the base of the cross. As you place your flower use this outward sign as a way of thanking God for the Grace we receive through His Son, Our Savior, Christ Jesus! Our cross will be at the East Entrance. We look forward to worshipping with you at the foot of the cross!
