Dear ECLC Parents/Guardians:

It is so hard to believe that our first quarter of preschool has come to an end and we are well on

our way to the holiday season. There have been so many exciting things that have occurred '

during this past nine week period, from our Parents as Teachers initiative, parent involvementevents, to our Halloween Blast, and much more. We know that preschool begins theeducational journey for students and sets the ground work for future academic undertakings.

Our program has been working diligently to complete our baseline student assessmentscreenings. We will analyze our data to provide an appropriate academic pacing for ourstudents' early childhood development as well as one that emphasizes our focus on schoolreadiness.

During the course of the second quarter, our teachers will be continuing their work in focusedprofessional learning communities. It is in these groups that our skilled educators expand theirlearning in Early Childhood Education Standards, intervention strategies and techniques, andalign curriculum throughout our program to assist us in achieving Kindergarten readiness forour 4 year old student who are completing the program. Our teachers have worked tirelessly tocreate learning opportunities that parents can utilize at home to extend their child(ren)'slearning. If you are not currently utilizing these strategies and activities, I strongly encourageyou to do so. Added exposure to these teacher-designed developmental^ appropriate activitiesgreatly assists students in making connections and allows for parents and students to have

richer communication regarding learning.

We hope that you will take advantage of our upcoming parent involvement events such as Kids'Boosters and Fatherhood Initiative. Please watch for informational sheets that are sent home inyour child's backpack for specifics regarding each of these as well as other activities. As always,if there is anything that our program can do to be of assistance in your child(ren)'s educationalprogression through our preschool program, please do not hesitate to contact any of our

centers.

GUN SAFETYEvery year children in the U.S. die from gunshot wounds. Children

cannot always tell the difference between a toy gun and a real weapon. Thebest way to prevent injury and death from firearms is to avoid keeping gunsin your home and avoid exposing your children to households where gunsare kept.

Protect your children by ensuring that these rules are followed in yourown home and in any home your children visit where there are guns:

S Guns should be unloaded and stored in a locked cabinet.^ Store ammunition in a separate locked container.S Take a gun safety course.

Always practice gun safety. Teach children that guns are not toys andshould never be played with. Talk with children about what to do if they finda gun or see someone with a gun.

^Stop! Do not touch.-S Get away.S Tell a trusted adult.
