and the area. It was impressive to hearMike speak with pride about the local contractors and vendors who will be working to make the new Stark Glass facility a reality. Best wishes for your continued success!I awoke to the news this morning thatGovernor Kasich had signed the 2017–2018capital improvement budget bill. StarkCounty will be the recipient of almost $12million for bricks and mortar projectsacross the county. We should all bedeeply appreciative of the hard work of our legislators—Senator Scott Oelslager,Representative Kirk Schuring, SenatorFrank LaRose, Representative MarilynSlaby, Representative Stephen Slesnickand Representative Christina Hagan.Organizations like the Massillon Museum,Stark Parks, Five Oaks Historic Home,McKinley Hall, Stark State College, andKent State University will be able toexpand, renovate, or improve their facilitiesbecause of the efforts of our legislators.Last week MDF celebrated the rededicationof NEO COM Commerce Park to honorGene Boerner for his dedication to andvision for economic development inMassillon. The new signage for the commerce park was unveiled and a ribboncutting officially opened the MillenniumRoad extension. The article in TheIndependent noted that approximately1200 jobs have been created due to the addition of the commerce park. All of the projects mentioned aboveimprove the quality of life for all of us here in western Stark County and theycertainly contribute to our economic well-being. To all of you who are involvedin this new growth in western StarkCounty, thank you for your efforts andkeep up the good work!

In 2012, the Stark County RecorderʼsOffice began issuing U.S. Veteran document identification cards (Vet IDcards) to veterans who have recordedtheir military discharge record (DD-214) inthat office. Approximately 30,000 veteranslive and work in our community. Currently,39 Ohio counties have stood with RickCampbell to provide Vet ID cards. Now, Campbell has begun reaching out tobusinesses to help veterans by educatingthem about the Vet ID program. When abusiness agrees to be a “Veteran FriendlyBusiness,” a window decal is provided, soveterans can identify that a discount orbenefit will be provided upon showing theircard. Campbell said “Itʼs about service;these men and women served our countryand protected us along with our rights. Now it is time we serve our vets by providing this small benefit for their service.” A list of participating businesses will bemaintained on the Recorderʼs website(starkcountyohio.gov/recorder).To participate or learn more, call the StarkCounty Recorderʼs Office, 330.451.744.
