Dear Brother Knights,
St. Josemaria Escriva said, “Do you really want to be a saint? Carry
out the little duty of each moment: do what you ought and concentrate on what
you are doing.” That sounds like simple advice. However, you and I know how
difficult that can be in our daily lives. We have entered into Ordinary Time
within the Church calendar. We celebrate simply the abiding Presence and love
of God during this lengthy liturgical period. We will remain in this season of the
Church until the First Sunday of Advent. So this is a good time to remind our-
selves that each day our goal should be to work on becoming a saint. For ulti-
mately that is what we all want when we enter eternity and are judged by our
God. We want the title “saint” in front of our name. I think sometimes we
spend far too little time thinking about how we are doing on our personal jour-
ney to sainthood. It is in doing what we are supposed to do each day that we are
building up a life that is pleasing to the Lord and will result in us becoming a
saint for all of eternity. I believe many times we complicate our life. All that is
really important is that daily we are living in the manner Jesus wants us to live.
As we retire each evening, we should do an examination of conscience and ask
ourselves where during the day was I successful in being the person Jesus wants
me to be. Where could I improve? If we did this each day, imagine how much
more like Christ we will have become at the end of our life. It is too easy to go
from day to day with little reflection. A short period of time thinking about our
daily actions and speech before we retire would help us greatly become more
like Christ over time. (please turn to page 4)

Brother Knights, As I reported to you at our April meeting, and I was corrected, our Council is
proud to have our second Shining Armor Award recipient, Thomas J. Kanoff, Jr.
The first recipient of our Council was Michael Pertzborn. This is a pretty prestig-
ious award. The following is the criteria for the award, which a new member must complete
during their first year of membership.
1. Worked on 3 Council Service Programs
2. Attended at least 3 Council business meetings
3. Received the Third Degree
4. Met with Council Insurance Representative
5. Recruited at least 1 new member
At the April meeting Tom was presented with his pin and at the May meeting he was presented his certificate of accomplish-
ment. Congratulations Brother Tom for achieving this award!
I would like to thank all of the Knights and family members that worked various shifts and locations throughout Sun Prairie to
raise money to support those with intellectual disabilities.
On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank those that purchased Mallards baseball ticket in support of The Women’s Care
Center. This is a great family event, which includes a pre-game tailgate party. Next year I hope that our Council can sell at
least 50 tickets for this great cause. As I indicated earlier, this game is sold out. All KC reserved seats that were not sold as
of May 15th (the extended deadline) were released to the general public. If anyone is still interested in purchasing any addi-
tional tickets, please e-mail and I will do my best to see if I can secure additional tickets for you.
The weekend of April 24-26 I attended the Knights of Columbus State Convention in Green Bay as your Council delegate as
did Brother Vaughn Blaeser. All Councils in District 51 had delegates at the Convention.
Our Council’s election of Officers will take place at the June 9th meeting. My term as your Grand Knight ends June 30, 2015
and those officers elected at this meeting will begin their term on July 1, 2015. Please plan on attending this important Coun-
cil meeting to select your new Council Officers. ( continued on page 6 and 7)

Right to Life
Grand Knight’s Report
Quote from Mulieris Dignatatem on the Right to Life
Following is a section from Paragraph 14 of Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter Mulieris Dignitatem (On the Dignity and
Vocation of Women), issued on August 15, 1988, to mark the occasion of the Marian Year. In this passage, he refers to John
8:3-11, the story of the woman caught in adultery, and makes a connection with the current problem of abortion.
The episode recorded in the Gospel of John is repeated in countless similar situations in every period of history. A woman is
left alone, exposed to public opinion with "her sin", while behind "her" sin there lurks a man-a sinner, guilty "of the other's
sin", indeed equally responsible for it. And yet his sin escapes notice, it is passed over in silence: he does not appear to be
responsible for "the other's sin"! Sometimes, forgetting his own sin, he even makes himself the accuser, as in the case de-
scribed. How often, in a similar way, the woman pays for her own sin (maybe it is she, in some cases, who is guilty of the
"other's sin"-the sin of the man), but she alone pays and she pays all alone! How often is she abandoned with her pregnancy,
when the man, the child's father, is unwilling to accept responsibility for it? And besides the many "unwed mothers" in our
society, we also must consider all those who, as a result of various pressures, even on the part of the guilty man, very often
"get rid of" the child before it is born. "They get rid of it": but at what price? Public opinion today tries in various ways to
"abolish" the evil of this sin. Normally a woman's conscience does not let her forget that she has taken the life of her own
child, for she cannot destroy that readiness to accept life which marks her "ethos" from the "beginning".

Council News & Events
One of our founding goals: to protect widows
As a member of your local council, you know
how important spouses can be to the charitable
works of the Order. If you’re married, your wife is
probably involved in a few of the many events that
happen each fraternal year. This support adds great
value and impact to what a council can achieve.
When the Order was founded in 1882, Father
Michael J. McGivney and the other brave men were
setting out to protect Catholic families, but especial-
ly wives and children. We know today this is done
through our insurance products which are designed
with that goal in mind. One specific policy rider
that you may not know about is called Spousal
Waiver of Premium. This rider is unique to the
Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping our
widows.
This rider is available on most permanent and
Discoverer plans purchased at standard rates by a
member and his wife on the same day. When both
spouses apply, the rider provides for waiver of pre-
miums on the spouse’s contract in the event of the
insured’s death. Best of all, for members and spous-
es ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for no
charge. The rider stays in effect until the spouse
attains age 65 or certain other triggering events oc-
cur.
Our products are designed with your needs and
budget in mind. With a solid portfolio of life insur-
ance, long-term care, disability income and retire-
ment products, the Knights of Columbus can help
you meet all of your financial goals. To learn more
about these solutions, contact me today.

Charles Dickens said, “Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possi-
ble.” Is that not what the Lord calls us to do? We are simply to “do good.” We are to
make the lives of others happier. We are to reach out whenever we can to help others.
We are to watch our speech and actions so that when others see us they see the love of
Christ reflected in all that we do and say. We are to have a grateful heart to God for all
He does for us. Today is a good day to redouble our efforts to become a saint.
God bless,
Msgr. Duane

Ralph and Joyce Weitzman Family
Brother Ralph is a 4th degree Knight who is also a member of the Honor Guard.
He is a bingo supervisor and is currently assisting with the Tootsie Roll drive
(Helping People with Intellectual Disabilities). Brother Ralph and Joyce are very
active at Sacred Hearts where they both serve as acolytes at daily mass, weekends,
Holy Week, funerals, et cetera. Ralph is a lector and both serve as lay Eucharistic
Ministers. When an elderly lady requested help with snow shoveling the past win-
ter, Ralph enthusiastically stepped forward. Hats off to both Ralph and Joyce for
their commendable service they provide to the Church, Knights of Columbus and
the community.
2015 May Knight of the Month .
Jerry Kreitinger
I can count the number of Council events that I did not see Brother Jerry at during
these past two years. It was ZERO. He is one person we have always counted on
(to take your money). Brother Jerry is the first person someone meets when they
come to one of our Council’s events. That is because Jerry is the person manning
the cash register at the front door and our unofficial Council Ambassador. He is
always polite and courteous and has that friendly smile on his face. We are truly
blessed to have you as a Brother Knight and thankful for all that you do for our
Council.

Also remember to keep in your prayers our Deacons and Priests who will be ordained later this month. The Diaconate Ordi-
nation will be held on June 5 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish (5101 Schofield Street, Monona) and the Priest Ordina-
tion will be held on June 26 at St. Maria Goretti Parish (5313 Flad Avenue, Madison).
This is my last article in our Council’s newsletter as your Grand Knight. First I would like to thank all of you for your sup-
port throughout my two-year term as Grand Knight. I would also like to thank all of the Officers and Committee Chairmen
that helped me during my term. There were several key events that were significant during my term that I would like to
mention. Our Council hosted a Second and Third Degree Exemplification, conducted a Council Free Throw Contest and
hosted a District Free Throw Contest, both of which had not done for several years, adopted a Council website (http://
www.kofcknights.org/CouncilSite/?CNO=4879) which is connected to the State Council’s website through U-Knight and
for most of my term, adopted a number of Standing Resolution to provide guidance regarding matters related to the Council
that were not specifically addressed and/or provided clarification to various subjects in our Council’s By-Lays, held our
Council meetings to 1 hour or less with just a few exceptions. (continued on page 7)
Council News & Events Cont. Tootsie Roll Campaign
The main portion of this years’ Tootsie Roll Campaign took place on May 1st- 3rd at various businesses within Sun Prairie. Up to this point we have collected donations of approximately $2200. We will con-tinue the drive this month during the Bingo sessions and will conclude at St. Albert’s on June 6-7. Volun-teers are still needed to hand out Tootsie Rolls and collect donations for this event. An online signup will be sent out for members to volunteer a small but important amount of time for this worthy cause or you may contact me to sign up. Thank you to all the KC volunteers that participated in the Tootsie Roll Cam-paign and especially to Brothers Ralph Weitzman and Joe White for counting and recording all the dona-tions and for staffing the office over the weekend.
