The Silver Rose program
features a sculpted silver rose carried by The Knights of Columbus from Canada, through the United States, to Mexico, bringing the Culture of Life message on its journey. The final destination of the Rose is the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City on Dec. 12, for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Knights’ pro-life cause. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Every year for the past 103 years, Santa Fe Council 1707 has celebrated its October 19, 1913 birthday. This
year the Knights of Council 1707 celebrated the anniversary of their council’s founding on Saturday, October
8, inviting the parish of Cristo Rey and its ministries to share in the festivities with Mass and a cookout at the gym.
The council provided hamburgers, hot dogs and condiments. Others brought their family and many welcome
dishes of veggies, fruits and desserts.
Council 1707 Fetes 103 Years of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism
On Oct. 2, 1881, a group of men in New Haven, Conn., under the spiritual guidance of Fr. Michael
McGivney, formed a Catholic, mutual, fraternal service organization known as the Knights of Columbus. Thirty-two
years later, on Oct. 19, 1913, another mile marker in the Catholic history began with a group of men who met at the
Fireman’s Hall on San Francisco Street here in Santa Fe. Called together by their 28-year-old priest, the Rev.
Peter Kuppers, assistant at the Cathedral of St. Francis, these men formed The Knights of Columbus Santa Fe
Council 1707. On the day of the inaugural ceremony, it was the first time in the history of Santa Fe that Hispanic
Americans and Anglo Americans, poor and rich, educated and uneducated, gathered in an organization that
included all Americans. One hundred two years later and with five more councils in Santa Fe and 15,000 Councils
more worldwide with 2 million members, our councils and families are dedicated to the ideals of charity, unity,
fraternity and patriotism. We work to benefit our communities, church and fellow man. We become better Catholics,
better fathers and better men. Vivat Jesus!

THE ROSARY: AN ACT OF CHRISTIAN MERCY BY THE KNIGHTS
Glenn Holmes, Michael Malinowski, Richard Lindsey and Michael Specht listen to the eulogy at Cristo Rey Catholic Church while waiting to say the rosary for Sergeant Raymond P Moya Jr.. The Knights Of Columbus have many activities and saying the rosary for the mily of a loved one before the Mass of the Resurrection is one of the dearest and most rewarding corporal works of mercy we Knights do. The Rosary is one of our dearest weapons in our knighthood. Rosaries are said done at the request of any family who calls upon the Knights Of Columbus to remember and bury the dead. We as Knights recognize the value of life and a life well lived. Building the domestic church and the community at large, along with serving our parish priest, and being at service to One and to All, help free up our priest to give the sacrament to his flock the parish in which he serves.
