I am happy to inform you that your accomplishments were well represented again this year, as the council took home four program awards. Our new member handbook received two first place awards (Council program and Mustard Seed), this newsletter received first-place honors, and we ranked second in overall funds raised during the 2017 Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. I was very happy to see your efforts recognized in front of all the convention attendees, and I want to thank you all once again for all your hard work during the last year. At the same time that those awards were being handed out our Teen Dance team was at the Plaistow YMCA running one more event for the school year. The attendance was not the highest we’ve seen at this venue, but those who did turn out seemed to enjoy the new obstacle course that the Y has installed. There was also a good response from the council to chaperone the evening. The program has now concluded for the school year, and the committee is looking at all options for what form this program will take in the fall. Over the following weekend we were out in force around Plaistow collecting donations for this year’s Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. There were a lot of council members participating throughout the weekend and we also had a strong showing of support from the Haverhill Clubhouse, as well as some of the other groups that typically assist with this effort. Even with Market Basket cutting us back to less than half of the hours we’ve had there in past years and with Walmart not allowing us to do any fundraising at their door the initial returns were still very good. A BIG thank-you is due to DGK Peter Richards for organizing the effort this year, and also to everyone else who stood in front of a store, counted money, made phone calls, or did anything else to help out. The weekend after that was Mother’s Day, and the council continued the tradition of handing out carnations after each Mass. In addition to honoring the mothers of the parish, this also benefits Southern New Hampshire Birthright, as we purchased the flowers from them. By the time you read this the St. Jude Open will be on our doorstep once again. This year we are running the tournament to assist three families in the area who have a number of financial and medical needs. As I write this there are still plenty of slots open for anyone who wishes to golf, and we won’t say no to anyone who wants to be a sponsor. If you want to help on the day of the tournament, June 2, you are more than welcome to do so. Just show up at Apple Hill Golf Course bright and early that morning (registration starts at 7 AM) and we should be able to find something for you to do. Brothers and council friends,

I mentioned in my report last month

that I was hoping to have some good news for you from

the state council convention, which was held at the end

of April. I am happy to inform you that your

accomplishments were well represented again this year,

as the council took home four program awards. Our new member handbook

received two first place awards (Council program and Mustard Seed), this newsletter

received first-place honors, and we ranked second in overall funds raised during the

2017 Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. I was very happy to see

your efforts recognized in front of all the convention attendees, and I want to thank

you all once again for all your hard work during the last year.

At the same time that those awards were being handed out our Teen Dance team was at

the Plaistow YMCA running one more event for the school year. The attendance was not the

highest we’ve seen at this venue, but those who did turn out seemed to enjoy the new obstacle

course that the Y has installed. There was also a good response from the council to chaperone

the evening. The program has now concluded for the school year, and the committee is looking

at all options for what form this program will take in the fall.

Over the following weekend we were out in force around Plaistow collecting donations

for this year’s Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. There were a lot of council

members participating throughout the weekend and we also had a strong showing of

support from the Haverhill Clubhouse, as well as some of the other groups that typically

assist with this effort. Even with Market Basket cutting us back to less than half of the

hours we’ve had there in past years and with Walmart not allowing us to do any

fundraising at their door the initial returns were still very good. A BIG thank-you is due

to DGK Peter Richards for organizing the effort this year, and also to everyone else who

stood in front of a store, counted money, made phone calls, or did anything else to help

out.

The weekend after that was Mother’s Day, and the council continued the

tradition of handing out carnations after each Mass. In addition to honoring the mothers

of the parish, this also benefits Southern New Hampshire Birthright, as we purchased the

flowers from them.

By the time you read this the St. Jude Open will be on our doorstep once again.

This year we are running the tournament to assist three families in the area who have a

number of financial and medical needs. As I write this there are still plenty of slots open

for anyone who wishes to golf, and we won’t say no to anyone who wants to be a

sponsor. If you want to help on the day of the tournament, June 2, you are more than

welcome to do so. Just show up at Apple Hill Golf Course bright and early that morning (registration starts at 7 AM)

and we should be able to find something for you to do. If you’re interested in doing any of the things I just mentioned,

or if you have any questions, please give Dan Sullivan a call.

As always, if you have any questions, suggestions or ideas that you would like to offer, please do not hesitate

Business Meeting Minutes The meeting was held on May7 , 2018 at St. Luke The Evangelist Parish, Holy Angels Church.

The Worthy Grand Knight, Jeff Lozeau called the meeting to order at 7:07PM. An opening prayer

was offered and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited.

A motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as

published, was made by Greg Taillon and seconded by Joe

Klimaszewski. – passed unanimously

Report of Admissions: Membership Chairman, Dan Sullivan notified the council that he

escorted brothers Jim Edwards and Joseph Richardson to Tilton,

NH where they completed their second and third degree

programs. Congratulation brothers!

Bills and Communications: None

Grand Knight's Report: Grand Knight, Jeff Lozeau said that April was a quiet month but plenty of planning was going on. The

last teen dance of the spring was held on 4/27/2018. The turnout was only fifty-two children; however;

knight turnout was superlative with twelve chaperones. The Plaistow Tootsie Roll Drive held from May 3-

6 garnered tremendous support from Council 6617's knights and from the associations that The St. Jude

Council supports and other groups that support us.

GK Lozeau said that our council received the following awards at The KOC State Convention held on the

weekend of April 27 to 29, 2018: first place for Council Activities for our New Member Manual (Dan

Sullivan & Greg Taillon) ; first place for Council Newsletter (Greg Taillon, Editor); first place for Mustard

Seed Award again for our New Member Manual; second place for our 2017 Tootsie Roll Drive.

Note: The Mustard Seed Award is for a project that can be easily picked up by another council and

repeated.

Chaplain's Report: God bless The Knights of Columbus. PGK, Mike Rosa called for a rosary check. Brother Rosa

apprised the council that Tony Stoddard whose son Cole died of cancer while still under ten years of age

now has cancer himself. Before Cole died, he told his father, Tony that something bad was going to

happen to him. Cole's prescient remark seems almost ironic because Tony has helped kids with cancer

since his son died of the disease six years ago. Tony has worked in childhood cancer awareness for a

number of years and has been an active supporter of Sophie's Fund, a non-profit organization that helps

families fighting pediatric cancer.

Treasurer's Report: Joe Klimaszewski recited the balance of the General Fund.

Service Programs Report: Grand Knight Lozeau filled in for DGK, Peter Richards who was excused from the meeting. The

GK yielded the floor to Past GK, Greg Taillon who announced that the supreme council will

reduce the number of service program categories from six to four in July of this year. A committee

will develop a yearly activities plan in April of each year for our council.

Church – The name of this program will be changed to “Faith” in July. Bishop Peter officiated at the confirmation

of twenty-six individuals at Holy Angels on April 27, 2018. Fourth Degree knights from our council

served as an honor guard. The Ascension of our Lord took place on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Holy

Angels and on Thursday at 8AM the next day at Mary Mother of the Church.

Council – Dan Sullivan, Chairman of the St. Jude Golf Tournament held a planning meeting for the SJO on May

10th, 2018. He advised the SJO Committee that more golfers are needed for the June 2nd, 2018

tournament and that more hole sponsors are needed as well. This tournament is the council's largest

fundraiser each year. It is always held in the beginning of June. All brothers whether active or not should

solicit their employers or businesses that they frequent to field a foursome or sponsor a hole.

Each year the proceeds are given to individual's or families that are saddled with severe medical or

financial travails. You can help these unfortunate people just by speaking up. The SJO Committee will

take it from there. Of course, these efforts are requested for next year.

Community – Pete Richards states that Pete Couture is in charge of the “People Helping People” program. Any brother

who knows of someone in need can contact brother Couture.

The Tootsie Roll Drive for Plaistow, NH was held from May 3 to May 6 this year.

The St Jude Open Golf Tournament will take Place on June 2nd this year.

Brother Richards advises everyone in the council that the Italian Family Dinner will be held again this fall.

Bob Nadeau will investigate if our council will participate in Plaistow's Old Home Day celebration.

Family – No Report

Youth – In July, 2018 this program will be transferred from our council to the parish. As stated previously, only

fifty-two children participated in the “Teen Dance” held on 4/27/2018.

Pro-Life – To commemorate Mother's Day, 5/13/2018, the council passed out carnations to ladies that attended the

Saturday and Sunday Masses throughout St Luke the Evangelist Parish. The carnations are purchased

from the Pregnancy Care Center.

Old Business: None

Fourth Degree Report: Anyone interested in becoming a 4th Degree can call Gordie

Lewis or Tom Ingham.

The next Fourth Degree Exemplification will be held in Londonderry, NH on

June 16, 2018. The ceremony begins at 10AM and includes photos, Mass and a

banquet. This year will mark the last Fourth Degree for the current District

Master, Joel Plante who has held that position for four years.

Field Agent's Report: Tom Ingham asserted that he receives phone calls and emails about insurance

policies that are ones that have been held for years. Dividend rates have been

reduced so some members are receiving bills for their policies. This occurs

because policy bills were being covered by the dividends, but some members

don't have enough accrued dividends to cover the entire bill; therefore, they are

required to make up the difference.

Tom introduced Solomon Huss from Nashua, NH council as the new field agent

for our council

District Deputy's Report: None

Sick Brothers Report: Mark Bloom, Peter Richards, Tony Stoddard and Tom Ingham's wife, Janet

Good of the Order: Greg Taillon provided the knights present with e-membership cards and

brochures to pass out at the Masses of St Luke the Evangelist Parish. Most e-

members join a council. Greg said that all that needs to be stated when passing

out this information is, “I think this will interest you.”

Lecturer's Report: Happy Anniversary Don and Maria Richardson

Knight-of-the-Month: TBA

Family-of-the-Month: TBA A closing prayer was said and the meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM.

Faithfully Submitted,

Harlan

We need to schedule Formal Membership Drives or Parish related projects that we can ask men in the

parish to help with.

We need to train our members to explain why they enjoy being a knight to others in the parish and

not expect them to do a hard recruitment sell

Our council is getting old! Over 60% of our members are over 60 years old. Only 10% are less than 50

yeas old! We need to reach out to younger men in the parish. We need to start using the communication

tools they use (i.e. Facebook, Skype, Email, Twitter, etc.). We need to identify someone in our council

knows how to use Facebook and ask them to establish a Council Page for us.

We need a First Degree Team

assigned. Even if we need to

read the parts, we need this

established. It is a shame that

we need to rely on bringing

our candidates to other

councils.

We need to focus on Family

and Church events that

involves our parish.

Can you help with any of these

ideas to help grow YOUR council?

Please contact our GK, Jeff

Lozeau or Dan Sullivan, our

Membership Director, and offer your

assistance.

Thank You!

WALL TO BE LONGER THAN PLANNED!

PRESIDENT TRUMP ANNOUNCES SALE OF CALIFORNIA

TO MEXICO

WASHINGTON (AP) –16 Mar 2017—President Trump disclosed

that he has reached an agreement with Enrique Pena Nieto, President

of Mexico, which provides for the sale of substantially all of the

State of California to the country of Mexico. President Trump noted

that this deal, which he claims “is his largest real estate deal ever” is

a win-win for everyone involved. One of the benefits he says he

will highlight during a prime time address from the oval office later

this evening, will include using the proceeds received by the US

from Mexico to 1) pay for the Wall (fulfilling yet another campaign

promise), a wall which will now include the length of the eastern

boarder of California, 2) fund all the infrastructure spending in the

remaining 49 states and 3) pay to relocate the 67 Republicans that

currently reside in California.

He also noted that Federal money saved from the reduction of California citizens on US social programs will allow those

social programs to be cash positive in less than 3 years.

Mexican President Nieto announced that he has already introduced a bill to the Mexican Congress asking to change his

country’s name to MexiCal.

Other benefits President Trump intends to discuss during this evening’s prime time address include:

California will now be able to act as a sanctuary state within MexiCal noting that there is much more room for the refugees

who will find the climate in the State of California more desirable than the climate in US cities such as NYC, Detroit or

Chicago.

The elimination of the existing border between Mexico and California will allow drugs to flow more freely between Mexico

and the users in Hollywood. Drug tunnel diggers at the Tijuana boarder will now be able to use their skills to dig tunnels

under Los Angeles to help ease congestion in that city and allow rioters to move about the city’s universities more freely.

The U.S. taxpayer will no longer be on the hook for any future disaster relief required once the next megaquake hits

California. The space in the Capitol and other DC buildings vacated by representatives of California will be fumigated and

turned into “time-out rooms” for the press as well as Liberty Centers where US citizens can meet with their congressmen to

discuss the pursuit of economic freedom.

Nancy Pelosi released a statement stating that she looks forward to making the Mexican President’s life miserable and prefers

the year round weather in Mexico City to that of DC. Her office has already announced a schedule of fund raising activities

for what is believed to be an upcoming campaign to run for President of MexiCal. Papers released along with Trump’s

statement reveal that a newly incorporated real estate company, pmurT, Inc., which was intimately involved in the deal

discussions, will receive a broker fee of $25 billion on the California sale. An anonymous pmurT, Inc. representative has

revealed that the profits on the deal are HUGE and will be used to purchase, develop and convert all abandoned US Federal

facilities in California into special high end retreats and resorts which will assist California residents with managing their

euphoria and transition into the nanny state they have so long desired to be. The exact northern border of the new MexiCal is

still under negotiation.

Apparently the White House is concerned that certain members of congress may be unwilling to give up California’s wine

country and are suggesting that the northern border align with the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. California residents

will be issued special blue cards to cross the border into the US so that the total number of California liberals entering the US

can be tracked and at any point in time not exceed predetermined levels. Residents that remain in California after the

effective date of the sale will not be allowed to seek refugee status in the US in the future.

Mexican President Nieto stated he is thrilled with the deal and is looking forward to declaring Spanish the national language

for his newly acquired territory and opening SSL (Spanish as a second language) schools throughout California. He also

noted that funding for the transaction would come from the Mexican drug cartels, which have agreed to provide low interest

loans to Mexico so long as they are allowed to move their cash out of Switzerland and the Cayman Islands back into Mexico

tax free. He also said he considers the fact that a Disney park will now be located within his country an added bonus.

President Trump wrapped up his statement stating, “this deal is HUGE and will help Make America, albeit a little smaller,

Great Again”.

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

G od, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your

priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young

to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your

Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which

is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that

we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your

venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will.

Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
