The event was held on September 21st at the Gar- land Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. We had a great outcome of 15 to 20 Key Clubbers who came to help out. The event was lots of fun, with tons of (out of tune) singing, danc- ing, Bingo, and arts and crafts! We hope that the senior citizens had as much fun as we did and we will be sure to volunteer again! SENIOR CITIZENS DANCE FALL RALLY Also, a big thanks to everyone who came to Fall Rally! The event was held at Six Flags Over Texas and admission was $30 per person. The actual rally was held at the Southern Palace (a building in Six Flags), where Key Clubbers got the chance to play Deal or No Deal to win report points of up to 1,000 points. The theme for DCON (District Convention) was also announced, which is “Haunted Mansion.” How exciting! Unfortu- nately, it rained the entire day, so most of the park was closed for safety precautions. Hopefully, no one received a cold from the weather that day and Key Clubbers should start prepping for DCON! “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, com- mitted citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

UPDATES

This year, the Fall Training Conference for Division 2 was held at Allen High School. All schools in Division 2 were encouraged to come to inform current officers about what they should be doing in their position, yet also educating any members interested in running for officer within their high school career. Lieutenant Governors Miranda Mishan, Steffi Lee, and Arjun Sethi informed members about the BRO Project, the Eliminate Project, and tips and ideas to start fundraisers for their club. Members also enjoyed lunch with pizza and soda, and afterwards created “paper bouquets” with tissue paper and pipe cleaners to be donated to children’s hospitals. Overall, Key Club had a much better understanding of their duties and have new ideas to get this year going!

MEMBER OF THE MONTH The Member of the Month is Rashael Nguyen, for her outstanding commitment to Key Club throughout the school year and summer! Rashael has shown incredible dedica-tion by attending most of the events that Key Club has held within the past few months. She’s quick to lend a helping hand, which is what Key Club is all about! Thanks, Rashael, for setting a great example of what Key Club should be like!

North Garland’s Key Club is still selling I <3 Babies bracelets! Each bracelet is $3 and all proceeds got towards the Eliminate Project, which is aimed toward eliminating maternal neonatal tetanus, a disease common in third world countries with unsanitary conditions. The disease is fatal to both the mother and child if it is not treated properly. Only $1.80 are needed to give shots to three people—the mother and her two children. Please help to sell as many bracelets as possible to donate to the project and to raise awareness about a disease that can be easily stopped.
