Inauguration of IIT Dharwad

Hon’ble Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash

Javadekar and Hon’ble Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the

inauguration of Indian Institute of Technology in Dharwad on 28.08.2016.

Hon’ble Higher Education Minister, Karnataka Sri Basavaraj Rayareddi,

former Chief Minister Sri Jagadish Shettar, Hon’ble Union Minister Sri

Ananth Kumar, Member of the Parliament Sri Prahlad Joshi and many more

dignitaries attended the inaugural function.

Inaugurating IIT-Dharwad at a function on the premises of

University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Mr. Javadekar

said under the new scholarship programme, the Union

government would invite innovative ideas from students and

scholarship of Rs. 60,000 each would be given to those

selected.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state government had

provided 470 acres for IIT-Dh free of cost. He told Javadekar

that the state government would welcome all initiatives of the

Centre to promote higher education and offered to provide

sufficient land free of cost for such institutes.

Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi demanded for

providing 25% quota for the students of the host states in IITs.

Director Sri H. U. Talawar handed over the transfer orders to the faculty

Department of Technical Education introduced transfer act

2012 with effect from 01.04.2014 to control and to bring

transparency in the Departmental transfer. For the year 2015-

16 online transfer counselling was held on 27.08.2016 and

29.08.2016 for all the faculty and staff of Hyderabad

ICT enabled FDP

Sri H. U. Talawar, Director, Technical Education and

Sri M. B. Patil, P.O. (Academic) along with the participants are

witnessing a session of ICT enabled faculty development program. Online ICT : “Repair and Maintenance of building” work shop

conducted by NITTTR, Chandigarh from 22-26 August 2016 at TEQIP Conference Hall, Directorate of Technical Education, Bangalore. Two hundred participants underwent training from four centers of Karnataka State namely SPFU Karnataka, Directorate of

Technical Education, Bangalore, BEC Bagalkot, SIT Tumakur and

Jain institute of Technology Belgaum.

B. Rangel said “Quality Education

grants us the ability to fight the war

on ignorance and poverty”.

Former US Senator, Bill Frist said

“Every child should have the opportunity to receive a

quality education”.

There was time when India was noted all over the world

as a glorious centre of education and culture where

students from all parts of the globe used to pour in. It

was an ideal system of education which apart from

disseminating sweetness and light, infused a spiritual

urge into the minds of the students.

Indian scholars like Charaka and Susruta, Aryabhata,

Bhaskaracharya, Chanakya and Patanjali numerous

others made seminal contribution to the world

knowledge in such diverse fields as mathematics,

astronomy, physics, chemistry, medical science and

surgery, fine arts, mechanical and production technology,

civil engineering and architecture, shipbuilding and

navigation, sports and games.

During the freedom struggle, several leaders like

Gokhale, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Pt. Madan Mohan

Malaviya and Gandhiji worked for better education for

the people of India. But now when we look at the present

state of education in our country, the change shocks us

deeply.

Education means training for life. It should aim at to

develop discriminative knowledge or wisdom. Education

stands for training, up bringing development of human

personality through three fold culture – physical, mental

and moral. But teachers’ pay more attention to the

completion or running through the syllabi than to the

human culture. Such a mechanical teaching has gone a

long way in lowering the standard of education and

erosion of personality of the students.

The standard of education in the country is steadily

falling. The students turning out every year from our

educational institutions are not up to the mark. They are

much below the expected level. In fact education lacks

meaning and purpose.

It is high time to address this issue. A comprehensive

plan to raise the quality of education in our country

should be evolved. Emphasis should be laid on

meaningful education.

It is a welcome move that National Education Policy is

being formulated where in all such issues are being

addressed. If we want to be developed, progressive and

prosperous nation, we should give importance to quality

education, it is the only way to secure honourable place

in the community of nations.

To improve the Quality Education it is the responsibility

of each and every stakeholders such as Policy Makers,

Teachers and Students should participate meaningfully

and constructively.

Teacher is an architect or builder of the nation. Unlike

the work of an architect, the noble work of a teacher

cannot be seen by human eyes because the teacher works

in the quarry of human hearts, secretly and silently. The

hidden work of a teacher has far reaching effects on

human character. A teacher has strength and wisdom of

diverting the attention of students to the desired goal.

A teacher can reform any system by his sagacity.

A devoted and dedicated teacher can improve the

standard of the education as he is the main part of

education system. He knows the fundamental

requirements of students as well as of the society.

Besides the teaching, he knows the psychology of the

society, as well as of the student. He knows the ethical

and cultural values of the country.

If we want to improve our system of education we

should involve our teachers in the whole process, right

from curriculum development to examining the student.

Then there is a possibility that we can achieve our

desired goal. Besides this, teacher has an influence over

student and community. So teachers should feel their

responsibility towards this national cause of quality

education and make conscious efforts in this regard.

Teacher play the most important and practical role in

improvement of education. The quality and worth of the

teachers determine the quality of education.

The direction of the future education agenda is anchored

in a lifelong and sector-wide perspective. The policy

envisages broadening the scope of education to facilitate

various pathways to learning depending on learners’

choice and potential and in relation with skills required

for the world of work while ensuring recognition and

certification of learning outcomes acquired by learners

through formal and non-formal learning modalities,

including open and distance learning modes.

In the words of Sri Aurobindo, “The Indians must have

the firm faith that India must rise and be great and that

everything that happened, every difficulty, every reverse

must help and further their end. … … . The dawn would

soon be complete and the sun rise over the horizon. The

sun of India’s destiny would rise and fill all India with its

light and overflow India and overflow Asia and overflow

the world.” The rest of the 21st century could then

Exploit Advantages of ICT:

ICT can affect in the spread of

education and to enable greater access to it. Moreover,

they increase flexibility so that students can access

educational resources regardless of time and

geographical barriers. They can affect the way that

students are given instruction and how they learn. They

enable collaborative development of skills and abilities

to create knowledge. This as a result will bring a better

preparation for students, lifelong learning and the

opportunity to join industry. ICT can improve the

quality of learning and contribute to the overall

economy.

“Information and Communication Technology

considered the most powerful means of education

in this century. This is as true that today opened a

debate that if has changed the classical meaning of

education.

“How much access students have today and how use

ICT, how could improve the process of teaching and

learning and within the academic sphere through it, are

today key problems. Realization of process of teaching

and learning through ICT can be achieved inter alia

through a series of factors as: The necessary

infrastructure related to ICT together with relevant

technologies.

We noticed as: Interaction with people in the process

of world globalization; contribution in the field of

information; overhaul of the classic model of giving

information; exchange of ideas; learning exchange of

ideas; recycling of time; formal learning; learning

with measurement; collaboration activation of attention;

commitment; materialization efficiency ; there will be

not enable that student to work less, but will engage

pupils to do with more work . Different experiences

have shown that investment in ICT for education sector

contributes to the growth of knowledge and human

capital, which provides many benefits for stakeholders.

Recommendations To exploit advantages of use of ICT in

education we will give some recommendations.

As emerges from the analysis of advantages in

relation to issues addressed in all its Elements are done

efforts and has been worked by the staff of the Albanian

universities in terms of using ICT in education and its

involvement in the process of teaching and learning

by institutional side of the respective institutions.

The budget is not satisfactory compared developed

countries, to achieve European standards, for

development of the contemporary necessary

infrastructure to response rapid growth of admitted

students, together with continuations of its updating

and maintenance. Separate supporting structures (even

within educational institutions) enhanced with

specialized staff, will emphasize will foster ICT

integration in education together with avoid , reduce,

eliminate, the main obstacles / disadvantages of these

technologies and to highlight better and still the

indisputable advantages of Information and

Communication Technologies as the vanguard of

Albanian society.

We have seen that the presence of ICT into the

curriculum is not at contemporary level, from being

satisfactory and demands enormous efforts not only

from educational sectors, but from all stakeholders.

Lecturers, teachers and students consider ICT integration

in the education.

perception is that not enough has been done.

development of other developed states, but not following

by the same lines as their own development.

Even education must move in this direction.

Students and professors in our universities possess

about 25% of smart phones (this percentage is

growing with direct access to new generation smart

phones ). Chances are ,that through technologies and

applications offered from cellular companies, can

move in this direction. Strategies and experiences

are not lacking.

This fact is reinforced by data processing and analysing

during our study from which it results that in general all

consider incorporation of ICT in teaching and learning

important, but still prevailing perception that in this

regard, has to do much more.

In all the efforts made, a growing trend is in this

direction. Should work more, to involve increasingly

disciplines related to ICT in the curriculum of higher

education in three cycles,

Realization of the use of ICT in education, should go in

parallel with pedagogy that help to introduce this

technology in teaching and learning process. but it

must be recognized as a major inertia with its

pedagogical aspect , or as "delay" in time of pedagogy

The process of accreditation helps in

realizing a number of benefits, such as:

Helps the Institution to know its strengths, weaknesses and

opportunities.

Initiates Institutions into innovative and modern methods

of pedagogy

Gives Institutions a new sense of direction and identity.

Provides society with reliable information on quality of

education offered.

Benefits to Institutions: Accreditation is market-driven and

has an international focus. It assesses the characteristics of an

Institution and its programmes against a set of criteria

established by National Board of Accreditation.

NBA accredited Institutions may be preferred by funding

agencies for releasing grants for research as well as expansion

etc. It signifies that the Institutional performance is based on

assessment carried out through a independent competent body

of quality assessors, with strengths and weaknesses emanating

as a feedback for policy-making.

Benefits to Students:Students studying in NBA accredited

Institutions can be assured that they will receive education

which is a balance between high academic quality and

professional relevance and that the needs of the corporate

world are well integrated into programmes, activities and

processes.

Benefits to Employers: Accreditation assures prospective

employers that students come from a programme where the

content and quality have been evaluated, satisfying established

standards. It also signifies that the students passing out have

acquired competence based on well established technical

inputs.

Benefits to the Public : Accredited status represents the

commitment of the programme and the Institution to quality

and continuous improvement.

Catalyst for International Accreditations: Due to

accreditation from NBA, the Institution’s systems and

procedures get aligned with the Institution’s Mission and

Vision. Therefore, NBA acts as a catalyst for the Institutions

planning to acquire International Accreditation.

Benefits to Industry and Infrastructure Providers: It

signifies identification of quality of Institutional capabilities,

skills and knowledge.

Benefits to Parents:It signifies that their ward goes through a

teaching-learning environment as per accepted good practices.

Benefits to Alumni: It reassures alumni that alumni are

products of an institute with a higher standing in terms of

learning.

Benefits to Country:Accreditation helps in gaining

confidence of stakeholders and in giving a strong message that

as a country, our technical manpower is of international

standards and can be very useful in enhancing the global

mobility for our technical manpower.

From the desk of the Editor Higher Education in India:

The present situation of higher education

system in India is complex and challenging.

With the increase in population, there has

been surge in the number of students

seeking admission in these universities and colleges for higher

education. In the field of higher education in India, there was

the time when population of the country was much lesser and

higher education was accessible to all and everyone.It refers to

the education in colleges and universities. India has a large

higher education system.

High Cut-off rate: Students find a staggeringly high cut-off

percentage for admission such as 80 or more %, in some

subjects in prestigious universities and colleges. This again is

a grim scenario, causing distress disappointment even leading

to deep depression among the admission seekers. Such

situation affects the mental condition of the students.

However, it is true that only the deserving should seek

admission and granted admission.

Diversified streams for higher education: The streams for

higher education have been diversified in a large way. There

are several options for the admission seekers, but

qualifications and competitions at every stage are to be

presented and faced.

Loan schemes: For the brilliant-poor, there should be

educational-loans schemes by the banks, which should be

available after due scrutiny of qualifications and means,

repayable in easy installments or even after getting duly

employed. Many banks have come up with education loan

schemes for students.

Limited Stay: Students at the Universities should be allowed

to stay as students only for limited period of study and

research period. Beyond it, none should be allowed to stay

after post-graduation.

Role of Teachers: Here again the final onus falls on teachers.

They, by their precept as well as by their example of

uprightness and devotion to duty should become the real torch

bearers for the student community and win regard and

reverence from them. That alone can place the University or

the college campus above narrow gains.

Private coaching: Private coaching has become a wide-

spread malady among university teachers. This needs to be

curbed and controlled even by law, if required.

Distance higher education: For those who have failed to get

admission to a University, or a college, distance-education is

the only answer. The Indira Gandhi Open University and

similar other Universities all over the country with full

recognized courses could be and are the only answer to the

aspirant for higher education. There can be multifarious

courses offered by these Universities which can even be

different from those offered at the regular Universities or their

associated or affiliated college and this can be an added

attraction to students and can absorb a large number of the

crowd waiting at the brinks of the Universities and colleges.

NLSIU convocation Girls came out with flying colours at the 24th

convocation of the premier National Law School of India

University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, on Sunday. They

bagged 18 of the 22 gold medals and secured the top

three ranks.

As many 571 students were awarded degrees, master’s

degrees, diplomas, and PhDs. The convocation was

presided over by chief guest President Pranab

Mukherjee, Justice T.S. Thakur, and guests of honour

Governor Vajubhai R. Vala and Chief Minister

Siddaramaiah.

First-ranker holder L. Gopika Murthy, whose family is

based in Thiruvanthapuram in Kerala, bagged 11 gold

medals. Incidentally, Gopika dropped out of her

engineering course to pursue law. “The shift from

science to social science was a challenge, and I spent

most of my time at the law school studying,” she said.

Gopika is now set to pursue her Master’s in Commercial

Law from Oxford University, for which she has got full

funding.

Shreya Prakash from Delhi, who clinched three gold

medals and bagged the second rank, is now working with

a New Delhi-based organisation that works with the

government on law reform initiatives. “I always wanted

to work in the public policy arena and make a difference.

I am glad to be getting the opportunity to do so,” she

said.

Gold medallist and third-rank holder G. Deekshitha from

Inauguration of IIT Dharwad “The scheme will encourage students to bring out

innovative ideas to help the growth of the industries and

related fields. Students can turn entrepreneurs while

staying at the hostels. “You sell your ideas, we will fund

them,” Mr. Javadekar told the students.

He said the Centre was committed to promote the growth

of higher education with more thrust on research. The

four schemes announced by the Narendra Modi

government in the field of higher education were

working well, he said. The government would provide

more funds to accommodate more candidates under

Impression, Gyan and similar programmes. Moreover,

promoting education was the national policy and not the

political agenda of this government. It was the reason

why institutes like IIT was sanctioned to the State where

BJP was not in power, Mr. Javadekar added.

On the newly set up IIT-Dharwad, which is the 23rd IIT

in the country, Mr. Javdekar said the government would

provide all help to construct the permanent campus.

He assured that the government would consider the

demand for setting up additional Kendriya Vidyalayas

and Jawahar Navodaya schools in Hubballi-Dharwad.

But, he did not respond to Higher Education Minister

Basavaraj Rayaraddi’s demand for providing 25 per cent

regional quota for students of host States in IITs.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who presided over the

function, said the government had provided 470 acres for

IIT-Dharwad free of cost. Extending an open invitation

to Mr. Javdekar, he said the State government would

welcome all initiatives of the Centre to promote higher

education.

Dr. M. R. Doreswamy, Chancellor of PES University

narrated the transformation of PES from being a

technical institute excelling in undergraduate education

to a multi-disciplinary research university. The

university's plans of starting new academic programs in

Commerce, Economics, Law, Mass Communication,

Media Management and Medicine was announced by the

Chancellor. He highlighted the achievements of the

university in indigenously developing a satellite which is

to be launched into the space orbit by ISRO in the

coming months.

In his presidential address, His Excellency Shri Vajubhai

Vala, Honorable Governor of Karnataka and Visitor,

PES University advised the students to follow the path of

honesty, humility, and always strive for excellence. He

emphasized that there is a need to realize and exploit the

power of youth in India for technological and societal

growth. Emphasizing the visible contribution of women

in technology, he urged the students to remain focused in

their scholarly pursuits and uphold the Indian values of

righteousness and respect towards parents and teachers.

President called for Strengthening Education Pranab calls for strong primary education to boost

higher learning

President Pranab Mukherjee has called for strengthening

primary and secondary education to build a strong

system of higher learning in the country.

"India will be the only country in the world to have

maximum youngsters by 2030. There will be more

demand for Indian youngsters all over the world for

various works. Indian youngsters need to be skilled,

talented and competent to handle the works. Higher

education will be able to convert youngsters into a

skilled force only if qualitative education is imparted at

elementary, primary and secondary levels," Mukherjee

said at a ceremony to commemorate Akshaya Patra

Foundation's achievement of serving of two billion meals

in government schools in 10 states of the country. The

event was organised by Iskcon Bengaluru at Iskcon

temple on Saturday.

"There are a lot of inadequacies in India due to its social

structure. Children's hunger remains a major challenge at

elementary, primary and secondary levels. Hence, every

effort should be made to eradicate hunger at these levels

and attract children to schools. Education should be

imparted to every child to get benefit of demographic

dividend," he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah termed Akshaya Patra a

great social undertaking. "The Karnataka government

was inspired by Akshaya Patra to launch Akshara

Dasoha, a mid-day meal scheme. The literacy rate in

Karnataka was 66.64 % in 2001. It went up to 75.60 % in

2011. Many children were enrolled for primary

education in economically backward districts. Akshaya

Patra and Akshara Dasoha schemes not only ensured

better literacy rate, but also reduced gender disparity in

schools," he said.

Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi

entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with

Department of Mines and Geology, Govt. of Karnataka

on 6th August 2016. The objective of the MoU is to

authorize the Civil Engineering Departments of the VTU

affiliated colleges to test the Manufactured Sand (M-

Sand) produced by the licensed M-Sand crushing units in

the state of Karnataka. On this occasion Dr. V. Sridhar,

Acting Vice Chancellor of VTU said that “Now-a-days

because of limited supply of Natural River sand the use

of manufactured sand becomes inevitable. Therefore,

Dept. of Mines and Geology, Govt. of Karnataka has

engaged in production and M-Sand and also issued

licenses to the private crushing units. Hence, as per the

MoU, all the VTU affiliated engineering colleges having

Civil Engineering Departments will be authorized to

undertake testing of M-Sand samples produced in the

state of Karnataka”

conferred the Higher Education Leadership Award, 2016

by the prestigious Elets print media for the contribution

to higher education. The award was given away by Dr.

S.C. Khuntia, Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education,

Government of India, at New Delhi during 5thto 6th

August, 2016. Prof. Shivanand B. Hosamani is the first

Vice Chancellor to receive such an award among the

Vice-Chancellors of North Karnataka and was also

invited as a Lead Speaker on the topic-“International

Education Initiatives-Learning and Collaborative

Opportunities”. In his speech he dealt in detail, the need

for collaborations, role of teachers, students and policy

of the government to foster greater pace for

developments in higher education. He compared and

contrasted the benefits of such collaborations between

developed and developing countries.

Corporation, Government of India, Ministry of IT,

Government of Jharkhand, Dubai knowledge Centre and

Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was celebrated n 14th

of April, 2016, at 9:15 A.M. in Karnataka Samskrit

University, Chamarajpet, Bangalore. The celebration

began with an invocation by Chandana Hegade and

respects were paid to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The dais was

shared by Prof. Y. S. Siddegowda, Registrar, Karnataka

Samskrit University (KSU), who also presided over the

function. S. S. Santosh Kumar, Joint Registrar, Co-

operative Society, Bangalore, Prof. Girish Chandra,

Dean, Faculty of Language, and Prakash R Pagoji,

Deputy Registrar, KSU.

Chief Guest of the function, S. S. Santosh Kumar

delivered special lecture on “Life and message of Dr. B.

R. Ambedkar”. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was brought up by

his mother who inculcated values and great thoughts to

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. In his school days, his teacher

greatly influenced his life and admired his intelligence.

Several incidents shaped his life. These were highlighted

by the speaker. During his early days, he was subjected

to harassment as untouchable. This made a deep

impression on the boy, who decided to study extensively

and to become highly educated. As he passed the

matriculation examination, he was duly felicitated by

stalwarts of those days. He was presented a copy of book

on Gautama Buddha. Before going for higher studies

abroad, he had made a resolution that his knowledge

shall be for the benefit and upliftment of downtrodden.

He read extensively and became highly qualified. After

returning to India, he saw the horrible state of

untouchability among Indian people. The speaker gave

several anecdotes from the life of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

which portrays his fight against untouchability.

Social reformation and equality movement was started

by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. His movement gained respect

both within India and abroad as well. Dr. B. R.

Ambedkar became the chairman of the Constitution

Drafting Committee of India. He was also the first

minister of Law and Justice of free India. He embraced

Buddhism and was eventually awarded the Bharata

Ratna, the highest civilian award for his yeomen

contribution to social equality.

Lecture of S. S. Santosh Kumar was well-received by

audience. Prof Y. S. Siddhe Gowda spoke on Dr. B. R.

Ambedkar and on how his childhood days influenced his

later days. Prof. Y. S. Siddhe Gowda also threw light on

how India could have gained more glory if Samskrit

language was made as a national language, as Dr. B. R.

Ambedkar himself had referred once. Dr. B. R.

Ambedkar was visionary who visioned the development

of India ahead. Prof. Girish Chandra spoke on Dr. B. R.

Ambedkar and mentioned the need to implement the

ideals of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar . The program was

compeered by Sri Venkatesh, Asst Registrar, KSU. Vote

of Thanks was delivered by Vidwan R. Thimanna,

Research Assistant, KSU.

PES UNIVERSITY PES University Students Bagged First Place in ASME

- ISDC AT NORTH CAROLINA, USA.

Madhavaram Sai Krishna and Kishore M N (Final year

Mechanical Engineering students mentored by Dr. Suresh

Nagesh, Chair professor in Computational Mechanics) have

secured "Best utility" prize in the commercial software

category in IDSC (Innovative design simulation competition)

organized by ASME (American Society of Mechanical

Engineers) held in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA during

August 21-23, 2016. The students won this year's award

for their project titled "Optimization of landing gear for

unmanned aerial vehicles". Of more than 40 teams which

submitted their entry to this prestigious competition, only 14

finalists were selected. These 14 teams were invited for final

presentation and six awards were handed out to the best

teams. PES University student team stood first followed by

IIT-Kharagpur and other 4 from the rest of the globe. The

students were awarded a travel grant of $1500 and a cash

award of $2000 for their outstanding work.

Their project is a unique and innovative design for landing

gears of Unmanned aerial vehicles in the 25Kg weight class.

By cleverly incorporating several ideas into the design Sai and

Kishore have been able to greatly improve the functionality of

the landing gear. Aside from providing a smooth take off and

landing with use of damping elements, it is also very light

weight, eco-friendly and allows for plane to carry additional

payload.

Their approach involved an initial conceptualization followed

by iterative processes of static load analysis and weight

optimization simulation.

Festival of Science held at PES University Campus.

The annual festival of science that attracts students from

cross India was held at the PES University campus. The

event “The Amateur Scientist” is open to students

studying in 8th to 12th standards. The whole day event

had students demonstrating science projects and

working experiments in the specially erected stalls. On

display were applications of science and technology

concepts to real world problems.

More than 5000 curious students participated in the

event. Evaluation process made sure only the shortlisted

entries made it to the exhibition. Students at the stalls

faced the queries from inquisitive visitors and judges. A

host of interesting events, designed to kindle interest in

science kept the venue buzzing with interesting

activities: Robo Soccer, inquisitors’ trails, ideathon,

molecular murals, tech treasure hunt, code wars,

Facebook event and quiz. A special attraction this year

was a workshop on sensors. Visiting kids got a chance

participate and enjoy exercises that challenged one’s

creativity and hand-eye coordination. Another highlight

of the festival was Aero show that had flying machines

and drones doing sorties. A panel of experts will select

the best project on display.

Interactive Accreditation Workshops -

Department of Technical Education The Department of Technical Education, Government of

Karnataka has rigorously initiated the action to

accredited all its institutes across the state. Under the

leadership of Shri H. U. Talawar, Director, Department

of Technical Education, who has set-up accreditation

team at Directorate, which is imparting interactive

workshops on accreditation covering almost all

polytechnics in the state. Following are the few snaps

Programme Coordinators and HoD’s from Ist phase of

selected 16 Government Polytechnics of the State.

02) FOUNDATION WORKSHOP : One day foundation

workshop for the 1st years students of all branches on the

subject : I CAN WIN. The workshop was conducted by

Sri Umesh Firangi HR Trainer Mind activation

foundation Hubli. This workshop enabled the students to

identify their strength and weakness. All HODs, faculty

members were present on the occasion.

03) Sadbhavana Divas : Sadbhavan Divas was celebrated

by NSS volunteers and other students by taking Oath on

20th Aug 2016. All HODs, faculty members, office staff

were participated in the celebration.

Government Polytechnic, Karwar

At Govt. Polytechnic, Karwar Traditional Day celebrated

on 02-04-2016 by students of all branches. Every student

observed "Unity in Diversity" in eyes Arab, Sikh,

Malayali, Gujarathi and many more styles of dressing

made colorful day. Principal V. M. Hegde & All Staff

members supported for this event to culture in the mind

of students oneness with different culture of India.

At Govt. Polytechnic, Karwar Quiz Competition held on

01-04-2016 by ISTE & IEI Student Chapters, Class

representative of each class of each branch. as experts

participated for the questions in Quiz Competition over

enthusiastically . The aim behind this event is to extract

Technical, Civil, General knowledge amongst students.

District was held on 17th

August, 2016 in our college.

The Programme which was jointly organized by the

Career & Counselling Cell of the college and Students

Placement Cell of the Department of Collegiate

Education, Bengaluru.Prof. Akthar Hussain Farooqui,

Joint Director of Department of Collegiate Education,

Mangaluru region, inaugurated the training programme.

He congratulated the Placement Cell of the Department

of Collegiate Education for having undertaken the task of

training the placement Officers of Govt. Colleges. He

said that in the present globalised era, it is very difficult

to get jobs after graduation. The employers seek good

communication skills in the candidates, especially

English language communication skills. He requested the

placement officers of the college to train the students in

this direction and turn them to be more competitive in

the employment market. Resource person, Prof. A

Narayana Prasad, Placement Nodal Officer, Department

of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru was also present at

the inaugural ceremony and spoke about the objectives

of the training programme for the placement officers. Sri

Krishna Bhat, Convenor of Career & Counselling Cell of

the college made introductory remarks.

Prof. Shrivarma Ajri, M, principal of the college, who

presided over the function, expressed happiness on the

growth of competitive spirit amongst students of

government colleges these days. He congratulated the

government colleges for organizing more and more Job

Melas these days and thereby help the students in getting

selected for employment.

Ms. Shanthi, Ms. Akshaya and Ms. Shreya rendered

invocation. Smt. Gowri S Bhat, Associate professor in

commerce welcomed the gathering and Smt. Jyothi L J

Asst. Professor in Commerce proposed vote of thanks.

Instructor was the Master of Ceremony.

Inauguration was followed by training by Prof. A

Narayan Prasad. To begin with, he trained the students

and along with placement cell convener’s, briefing them

about employment opportunities both at government and

private sectors and on various competitive examinations

on how to apply and write these examinations. He also

trained them how to face interviews by conducting

‘mock interview’. He told the students about the level of

competition that they have to face and how to get into the

job market by proving their skill and ability.

In the afternoon session he trained exclusively the

Placement Cell Convener’s of Government First Grade

Colleges of Udupi District. He spoke about the

possibilities of various activities that could be conducted

under the auspices of Placement Cell of each college,

how the job melas can be organized and other useful tips.

He requested the Placement officers to organize more

and more training programmes so that the students of

government colleges also prove to be more skilled and

competitive. He also emphasized to look for employers

who are ready to provide free training to the student

before Campus Drives, thereby help the students of the

college in getting better employment opportunities. The

training was followed by question-answer session.

Inaugural Function Of Job Mela-2016

On 23-06-2016 campus selection was conducted by Sri

Ram Finance. Thirteen students were short listed and

appeared for second round interview and are waiting for

offer letter. Also, on 23.07.2016, Job Mela was

conducted by College and 05 companies viz

CAPGEMINI, GREET Technology, INSPIRA

Technology, SMART Solution and DESHPANDE

Foundation were participated and 64 students have been

registered for their interview, among them 13 students

were shortlisted for next round interview. For this

academic year the cell has planned various skill oriented

programmes, including certificate course in retail sector

and certificate course in tally. In collaboration with

RUDSET Dharwad, we are planning to depute our

students for self-employment training in midterm

vacations.

regional edition of 'IT Wiz' annual inter-school IT quiz

organised by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), greet

second prize winners Mohit Doshi and Vallabh

Ramakanth of Sri Kumaran's Children's Home in

Bengaluru on Thursday.

The quiz is being held in 15 cities in the country after

which the winning teams at the regional levels will be

going to Mumbai in December to take part in the
