The vibrant patchwork fabric of our new chairs originates from vintage cotton saris. Indian textile artisans sew them into colorful quilts using kantha, a traditional running stitch embroidery. We spent fi ve years looking for a sectional that combined comfort, practical styling and eco-friendliness. Our search came to a satisfying end when we kicked back on this all-green, all-purpose rare fi nd. First, the eco lowdown: Our manufacturer uses only certifi ed sustainable wood frames and water-based wood fi nishes, recycled fi ber

fi lling in the pillows, and soy-based fi lling in the cushions. Organic cotton ticking with tufted buttons framed by linen—materials that are as durable as they are mindful—cover our sec-tional. Next, the comfort factor: We sat, we stretched and we were conquered—this is the curl-up sectional of all times.

After patiently pleating, bind-ing, stitching or folding the coordinated organic cotton fabric components, she then applies subtle layers of vegetable dyes.
