I have made it through graduation and on to “relay for life” this weekend, then my summer can begin.

We are looking forward to a great Harvey Lake Day, fireworks reserved and permit process begun. Half of the lake is covered with boat parade posters but unfortunately our boat ride on a Sunday morning to recruit more members failed miserably. It was too windy and my engine too noisy for any possible conversation and my boat too

unreliable to shut down at every camp. We will attempt later in the summer with a little fishing boat easier to maneuver!

Let’s try to increase membership anyway we can - talk it up, go to the website often. Enjoy Harvey’s Lake and bring a friend to the Annual meeting.

Congratulations to Alex Gleeson, one of our esteemed serviceman, the winner of the ice-out contest. He is a resident of Portland Maine and son-in law to Bob Dufresne. The ice went out on March 26 at 9:05am earliest recorded since 1947. Despite having to collect tickets early proceeds were good. Alex got $300 as did LHA.

Creative Talent Is Alive and Well at Harvey’s Don Burke

Last summer, some of the most original depictions of the boat parade theme,” A Voyage Of Discovery,” were made by seven local families here on the lake. Now that we know how gifted you are, the bar is being raised in order to really challenge your creative juices. If you’re up to it, you need to start thinking about this year’s theme… “Through the Eyes of a Child.”

We’re not trying to top the Rose Bowl parade here… just trying to get more Harvey’s Lake families (especially the kids) involved. This is a lot of fun, more so for the participants on the boats than for the lake front viewers, although the latter seem to really appreciate the efforts of the boat entries. And don’t we love to hear the applause!!

So the gauntlet has been cast. Figure out how you’re going to decorate your boat, canoe, kayak, raft, whatever. But, there’s one more thing. In addition to asking each family that participated last year to get involved again this year, we would like each of you to bring one additional boat into the competition. So check with your friends and neighbors. That would make fourteen entries. Just think of the wake we could cause. Any questions, just call Bob Perrin (633-2601) or Don Burke (633-4941).

    Lake Harvey Boating

If anyone is interested in a real LIVE boating course, let us know - if we have enough people we’ll do it!

We extend our thanks again to our Town of Barnet voters for committing vital funds toward the continued protection of Lake Harvey waters. That critical support, added to the ongoing generous contributions of our Association members, makes it possible to expand our monitoring coverage from early spring through Columbus Day weekend, from 7 AM to 7 PM seven days a week. So far, these dedicated efforts have kept us milfoil free.

Our website – lakeharvey.com – is still young, and evolving. PLEASE: send us photos, and stories, and ideas! Pass on a link to another site you think is informative for life at the lake, and events in our area we all might enjoy. We have converted our “Notes and Updates” section to a “Blog”, making it easier for our Board members to keep members posted about goings on and things to think about. And to get feedback as well…

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER, AND VISIT US AT lakeharvey.com!

    Helpful Information

Boat MonitorsWe are in full swing with boat monitors this summer, thanks once again to the town of Barnet for appreciating the need for prevention.

Our boat monitors are all locals, Kyle Berge, Natalie Raeder, Holly Greenleaf , Bridget Burke, Kathy Wirthwein and Donnie Easter. We have changed this up a little and Don is running the show, I may have finally learned to delegate. Three monitors were able to attend the Greeter Program training workshop on May 14 and I think they found it much more informative and interesting then they suspected, so be sure to ask them questions.

We recently discovered a resourceful website dedicated to Vermont boating. It covers all of the important information regarding boating safety and boating laws.

Make this summer safe and fun for all - visit the website below and please share this important information with all of your boating friends!
