One of the pleasures ofbeing on holiday issampling the local food
and drink and Derbyshire lies atthe heart of excellent foodproduction. Home to some of thefinest restaurants and tea shopsin the country there is sure to besomething to suit everyone’staste.
Everyone has heard of theBakewell tart and you can tastethe real thing in Bakewell wherethere are many specialist shopsbut did you know that Ashbourneis the home of gingerbread -traditionally made into the shapeof a man. It is also host to theannual Shrovetide Football matchwhere the majority of able bodiedmen, women and children take to
the streets to play what isprobably the largest football gamein the world!
Hartington is famous for cheesemaking and the home of thefamous Stilton Cheese. This blueveined cheese, the king of Englishcheeses is only allowed be madein a very small area. Sadly thelocal factory has now closed butthe local cheese shop still stocks avariety of Derbyshire cheeses andis well worth a visit.
The Leek Brewery & StaffordshireCheese Company produce localcheeses including StaffordshireGold and you can watch theprocess of beer being made in theirbrewery. For the beer connoisseurother excellent local beers includeWhim Ales in Hartington,
