CIDC – Activities

Internship Programs 132 B Tech final year students from Mewar University and 3

Diploma Engineering students from Assam University, Silchar joined the month long internship programme at CIDC training centre Vishwakarma Pratham, Faridabad. Internship topics were Trenchless Engineering, Material Testing Laboratory Techniques, Project Planning and Scheduling, General Site Management, Safety Practices on Construction Project Sites, Assessment of Green Buildings, and Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation.

The internship programmes, designed to provide hands-on engineering experience to enhance capabilities of the engineering students, achieved the desired objective. Students took interest and participated in a number of hands-on activities including Masonry work, plastering of wall, installation of paving blocks, tilling, concreting & flooring etc.

A number of site visits were organized. Students were taken to sites of their choice of specializations.

Students of the Trenchless Technology discipline visited two HDD

project sites. The visit of IGL (Indraprastha Gas Ltd) pipeline installation project site at Wazirabad, New Delhi was very educative. At site engineering interns saw the pilot hole being drilled across Yamuna through trenchless HDD technique. They learned various aspects of drilling process. They were explained how pipe will be pulled after completion of the drilling of pilot hole.

Demonstration of the GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) subsurface

survey technique was conducted. The students learned with interest the basic procedure of this geophysical subsurface exploration technique.

The Green Building students visited TERI – RETREAT and also

Centre for Science and Environment for their Sustainable Building.

The General Site Management and Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation students visited JMC Site; where they observed Precast Concrete Blocks of different sizes, Batching Plant, Bar-binding without overlap, Pavement Block (Interlock work), Shuttering & Scaffolding.

Project Planning and Scheduling students visited High Rise

Buildings and learned various aspect of construction project planning and scheduling.

The Material Testing students visited NCCBM lab which is No.1

Ph.D Programmes; Entrance Test Result Declared

Entrance Test for admission to the Ph.D, Integrated M.Tech-Ph.D, and M.Tech Programmes in Construction Technology & Management and Trenchless Engineering was held on 5th of May 2013. Six students had applied for the Entrance & all successfully qualified their exams.

Notification for admission to the Diploma / Post Diploma Programmes in Construction & allied streams, being jointly offered by CIDC and Assam University, Silchar has been hosted on the website and the admission process initiated.

Intern Placement Activities

A placement meet was organized on 22nd July 2013 for the internship students from Teerthanker

Mahaveer University, Moradabad, (UP) where M/S Vijay Nirman Co. Pvt. Ltd. interviewed sixty students for selection as project interns.

CIDC- Gorakhpur Center

Starting of new batch under PFC scheme

New batch of employment oriented training under PFC scheme was inaugurated in Gorakhpur training

center on 15th July 2013. In this batch, large numbers of trainees have joined from rural and backward

areas of eastern UP and Bihar. The CIDC Gorakhpur center is now becoming popular in economically

challenged unemployed youth.

Iftar Party in Gorakhpur Center A grand religious Iftar party was organized in Gorakhpur training center on 25th July. The program was

started with Aftari program, guests and trainees enjoyed delicious food. A large number of children

from nearby Madarsa were also joined the Aftari program with honorable Maulana. After Aftari

program, all rozedar (who had fast) performed Namaz and prayed for goodness of CIDC and society.

CIDC – Activities New Initiatives.

CIDC has signed a MoU with Department of Industries, Ranchi, Government of Jharkhand for training and placement of 5000 nos. of candidates every year.

CIDC-ACTIVITIES

Under CIDC-RECL Training Program at Siddhartha Nagar and Dumariyaganj, third batch commenced at both locations on 15th July, 2013 with batch strength of 26 nos. & 19 nos. respectively. Total 211 nos. of candidates are getting training in this program.

Under CIDC-RECL training centre in Shivpuri (MP), fifth batch with batch strength of 40 candidates commenced on 17th July, 2013. Total 290 nos. of candidates have been trained and 115 nos. of candidates are getting training under this program.

Under CIDC-HUDCO training program in Odisha, at

Phulnakhra, fifth batch with batch strength of 35 commenced on 09th July and in Rajasthan third batch of 40 candidates commenced on 22nd July, at Kishangarh. Total 245 nos. of candidates have completed their training and 155 nos. of candidates are getting training in this program.

Under CIDC-PFCL Phase-II training program, Second batch commenced at Ramshapur with batch strength of 35 candidates, Gorakhpur with batch strength of 35 candidates, Ghaziabad with 32 candidates on 15.07.2013. Total 377 nos. of candidates are getting training in this program.

Under Rajasthan Minorities Training program 200 nos. of candidates are getting training in different trades and 1100 nos. of candidates have been trained in this program.

Under Tamil Nadu skill development Mission 150 nos. of candidates are getting training at five locations.

Campus selection of candidates was carried out at Shivpuri (MP) by M/S Sobha Developers, Bangalore on 27th July and M/S JMC Projects India ltd on 30th July at Ghaziabad.

In its quest to facilitate dissemination of information about the latest tools, trends, techniques and

equipment, CIDC has started the “Interactive Workshop” Series.

The second interactive workshop in this series was organized on

the 30th of July in association with M/s Pidilite Industries Ltd., brand

leaders in the field of construction chemicals in the country. This

workshop focused on integral waterproofing, Liquid applied

membranes and low energy consuming PU foam Insulation. The

workshop also presented the systematic approach to leak free

bathroom areas for eliminating leakage and seepage in one of the

most vulnerable areas in any residential apartment.

Waterproofing is a subject close to the heart of any construction

professional and successful elimination of leakage and seepage, in

addition to extending the life of a structure, are a cause of

immense satisfaction to the professional. The topics covered in the

theme Integral waterproofing, Liquid applied membranes and Low

energy consumption PU foam were of excellent insight to the

audience which comprised of practicing professionals from the real

estate, infrastructure, contracting companies, and architects

amongst others.

CIDC – Activities

Mr. N. Thyagaraju, General Manager, CIDC welcomed the delegates and provided an overview of

CIDC and also explained the objectives of the interactive workshop being held at Vishwakarma

Pratham every month. He encouraged the delegates to visit the interactive link

Mr. Jeewan Joshi introduced Pidilite to the audience and

detailed the range of products in the Pidilite basket of

construction chemicals. He also informed the gathering of

the importance of integral waterproofing for the structure and

plaster and how their product was capable of delivering

unique properties to the mortar and cement in case of

volume mixing at site.

Mr. Jagdish Manori from Pidilite discussed the important

aspects of Water proofing to provide an envelope to the

entire structure, importance of bathroom water proofing in

the building and how to ensure 100% leak free bath rooms

with the use of the effective product range specifically

designed for the purpose. He also talked about the new

generation products to achieve Green and sustainable

waterproofing solutions and insulation of roof and walls using

the Pidilite Low Energy Consumption System.

Mr. Pratap Rautela from Pidilite delivered a highly informative lecture on evolution of Water proofing membranes and their importance in contemporary construction. While emphasizing upon the skill required for effective installation of self adhesive membrane and Dr. Fixit torch shield waterproofing on different structures and areas.

Dr. P R Swarup, DG, CIDC addressed the gathering and extolled the virtues of employing skilled

applicators for better productivity, safety and quality. He emphasized that CIDC with its pan India training centers is always there to address the issue of skill shortages and both product companies as well as and project implementers should work concertedly to employing a skilled and certified workforce on construction projects.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Sr. Addl. Director, CIDC, who while

thanking the Pidilite team, participants and organizers also explained about the short term courses being offered by CIDC. These are aimed to equip participants with specific skills or upgrade their skills through compact and concise modules. The target audience for the courses starts form from workers moving upwards to the engineer level. The technical presentations were followed by a lively question and answer session with active
