In its quest to facilitate dissemination of information about the latest tools, trends, techniques and

equipment, CIDC has started the “Interactive Workshop” Series.

The first in this series of workshops was held on the 19th June 2013 at Vishwakarma Pratham, the

corporate office and training hub of the Council in association with M/s Sika India Pvt. Ltd, world leaders

in waterproofing and construction chemicals.

The topic “Latest Trends & Appropriate Use of Waterproofing &

Construction” stuck an immediate cord with the audience and they

lapped up the product and process information shared by SIKA

experts Mr Arijit Basu and Mr Sucharit Sarkar.

The audience comprised of participants spanning the entire industry

sectors and was drawn from Senior and Middle Management ranks

from various functional departments like Procurement, Projects,

Administration, Marketing and Sales and end-users.

The participant mix included companies from real estate sector, infrastructure companies, PSUs and

waterproofing companies and service providers. Some prominent names included:

CIDC – Activities

Post registration and distribution of delegate kits, the programme

commenced with Introduction of the company by Mr. Rajesh Joshi,

Country Head- Distribution, Sika India Pvt Ltd. He delivered the

introductory address and explained the brand values of SIKA and

reiterated the customer focus of the company. He educated the

audience of the worldwide presence of the company, its product

range and service offerings.

The technical session which followed had two presentations by Mr. Arijit Basu, SBU Head, Sika

India Pvt. Ltd. on “Waterproofing” and Mr. Sucharit Sarkar, Business Development Manager,

Sika India Pvt. Ltd. on “Refurbish Your Home with Sika Products”.

Dr. P R Swarup, DG , CIDC addressed the gathering and extolled

the virtues of employing skilled applicators for better productivity,

safety and quality. He emphasized that CIDC with its pan India

training centers is always there to address the issue of skill

shortages and both product companies as well as and project

implementers should work concertedly to employing a skilled and

certified workforce on construction projects.

The new SIKA display centre at Vishwakarma Pratham which has

been set up with the prime intention of providing express

information to the stakeholders was inaugurated by Dr Swarup

along with SIKA officers and workshop participants. Companies

are provided display facilities at Vishwakarma Pratham which can

be utilized for display of their products and services, dissemination

of information through their brochures, leaflets, CDs and also

placement of a dedicated resource for addressing queries and

booking orders. The SIKA stall with its aesthetic appeal and

information material impressed one and all.

The networking lunch which followed had the SIKA team

answering queries of the participants. The feedback gained during

the interaction with the participants by both SIKA and CIDC

officials indicates that the participants were keen and interested to

learn more about the emerging trends and judicious use of construction chemicals products and

their applications especially Admixtures , Joints and sealing compounds and tile adhesives.



CIDC – Activities

Performance Evaluation of Construction Workers engaged on Central Public

Works Department (CPWD) Sites

The inclusion of the Clause 19 K of GCC of CPWD on deployment

of skilled and certified workers on CPWD construction projects

states 20% of the workforce needs to be skilled and certified. The

inclusion of the clause demonstrates the farsightedness and vision

of the project owners and the relentless pursuit of making the

grassroots construction force trained, tested and certified. This is a

welcome move which definitely translates into enhanced

employability for construction workers; value added employment

and deployment of a skilled workforce leading to enhancement of

quality, safety and productivity on various construction projects.

The clause 19k is a proactive step taken by CPWD to improve

safety, quality and productivity on construction projects and

encourages other organizations to emulate this path breaking step.

To fulfill the provisions of the clause, CIDC which is the apex body for construction industry in India and

CPWD have initiated the launch of Testing and Certification exercise in Delhi region and plan to make it a

pan India effort in a phased manner.

The Testing and Certification Camps have successfully been conducted in 9 CPWD Zones of Delhi from

6th June to 21st 2013. The activities under the initiative comprised of holding a series of Counselling and

Testing Camps across the 9 Zones of CPWD, in Delhi. The counselling camps at each site were held

three days in advance of the actual testing camp. The Project Owner, Implementing agency and its

workers were counselled and explained the process in detail by Mr Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Sr. Addl. Director,

CIDC post which the Testing and Certification team under Mr Shyam Narayan Singh (Team Leader and

Sr. Trainer) went to each location for conducting the testing at respective sites.

The top management commitment for improving the safety, quality

and productivity of the workers engaged on CPWD sites is clearly

demonstrated by the wholehearted support of the CPWD top

management to this initiative. Senior officers from both CPWD and

CIDC have provided their guidance during the conduct of the

camps and regular reviews and feedback been provided to CPWD.



CIDC – Activities While the candidates who clear the testing process are granted

Certificates, the others are prescribed training ranging from 5-15

days or more depending on specific weaknesses.

Based in the success of Phase I, the programme is being rolled

out in other parts of the country and Phase II starting from July

2013 will have the camps being held in 23 CPWD locations

across India.

Visit of Student Counselor from Afghanistan: Mr. S. Shirzai, Student Counselor, Afghanistan Skill Development

Project (ASDP) visited our training centre VKP, Faridabad on 31st

April 2013. The visit was to review the current ASDP programme

being conducted for seven students from Islamic Republic of

Afghanistan under Construction Project Professional Programme

(CPPP). CPP Programme is designed to develop skills for the

supervision of construction project work activity in fifteen most

crucial competencies required for a successful project execution.

He also attended the seminar, where CPP students from

Afghanistan gave presentation on the topic taught. The objective

of the seminar was to evaluate the understanding of the subject

by the students.

Internship Programs:

132 BTech students from Mewar University have joined internship programmes. The internship programmes are being conducted to provide hands-on engineering experience and to enhance capabilities of the engineering students in construction sector.

Internship topics include Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation, Understanding Contract Conditions, Project Planning & Scheduling, Safety practices on Construction Project Sites, Land Surveying Techniques using Total Station, Material Testing Laboratory Techniques, and General Site Management.

AUS-CIDC Programme:

Final certificates of AUS-CIDC Diploma Engineering programme have been issued to the passed out students.



CIDC – Activities Mr. H.S Chhokar head of Project (NMHEP) SJVN visited CIDC

Vishwakarma Pratham Faridabad on 12th June 2013 to

participate in the valedictory function of SJVNL sponsored

training program. 42 SJVN trainees were awarded certificates

who had been trained as Site Accountants. They had

completed their 3 months training in Vishwa Karma Pratham

and were ready to join the construction Industry.

During his address Mr. H.S Chhokar emphasized the need of job oriented trainings. He also guided and

advised the trainees about the need of adjustment and sacrifice in life. He mentioned that there was much

demand for skilled persons in India. He also advised them that in starting stage of their service they may

not get salary as per their expectations and would have to face a lot of difficulties, in the initial years and

only after experience they would get jobs as per their choice and desire.

Mr. H.S Chokkar distributed certificates & stipends to the trainees and wished them success. He

congratulated CIDC for doing a great job for development of skills for the construction industry.

New Initiatives

Under PFC Phase-II Program, training commenced on 03rd June, 2013 simultaneously at CIDC VKP

Faridabad, CIDC Ghaziabad, Sidhauli, Ramshapur & Gorakhpur.

CIDC-ACTIVITIES

Under CIDC-RECL Training Program at Siddhartha Nagar, First batch commenced at Dumariaganj and Siddhartha Nagar with effect from 24th May, 2013 with batch strength of 92 candidates and second batch commenced with batch strength of 74 candidates w.e.f. 05.06.13.

Under CIDC-RECL training centre in Shivpuri (MP) third batch with batch strength of 30 candidates commenced on 13th May, 2013 and Fourth batch on 07th June, 2013 with batch strength of 45 candidates.

Under CIDC-HUDCO training program in Rajasthan, a batch of 80 candidates completed their training on 8th June, 2013 in the trade of GWS & electrician and next batch commenced on 11th June, 2013 with batch strength of 80 candidates in GWS & Electrician.

Under CIDC-PFCL Phase-II training program, at present 275 nos. of candidates getting training at CIDC VKP Faridabad 50 candidates, CIDC Ghaziabad 30 candidates, Ramshapur 55 candidates, Sidhauli 40 candidates & at Gorakhpur 100 candidates in different trades.

Under Tamil Nadu skill development Mission skill development program four centres has been commenced.



CIDC – Activities INAUGURATION OF PFC TRANING PROGRAM AT GORAKHPUR CENTER On 01st June 2013, Gorakhpur center inaugurated the PFC training program and welcomed the trainees

under this scheme very warmly. Program started with ‘National Anthem’.

Prof. Govind Pandey, Deptt of Civil Engineering, M M Engineering Collage, Gorakhpur was the guest of

honor. He motivated the trainees to take this opportunity as the carrier enhancement.

Mr.P.K.Mishra (Deputy Director, CIDC) enlightened about the training. He said that the training which

CIDC is giving will be an opening path for them to get their achievement in future.

In the conclusion of the ceremony all the trainees gave a heartiest thanks to seniors and staffs for giving

such a wonderful opportunity.

At 2.00 pm program was completed and trainees enjoyed delicious lunch.

VISIT OF NTPC TEAM ON GORAHPUR CENTER ON 1st JUNE 2013

NTPC, Hazaribag represented by Mr Sandeep Shukla, Dy Manager

visited Gorakhpur center and studied the training methodology and

placement. Mr Sandeep Shukla found the training very worthy for

unemployed youth and shown his interest to develop relations with

CIDC for training of PAP and other CSR activities of NTPC.

PLACEMENT MEET AT GORAKHPUR CENTER

CIDC, Gorakhpur Center organized the placement meet on 12th June 2013 to give opportunities for the

trainees to get the employment.

Bhagirath Infraventure Private Limited (Lucknow) came to the center to take an interview. Mr.T.K.Singh

(Managing Director) and Mr.Sashikanth (Architect) found the trainees very capable to work with the

company. 30 trainees appeared, among them 8 trainees have been selected. The average salary offered

by the company was 6500/- excluding fooding and boarding.

UEM Builders Ansal API Contracts Pvt Ltd was also present to select

the trainees. Mr Manoj Kumar Singh, General Manager (Projects) with

his team represented the organization. They were very happy with the

performance of trainees and also given guidance for specialized and

focused training.

ON SITE TRAINING

CIDC Gorakhpur center’s trainees are going on sites of M/S K.K

Construction and Builders Ltd.

Trainees are getting real training in the field of project execution and the

works like- bar bending, shuttering carpentering and masonry works,

concreting etc with labor management and material management.

Our trainer, Mr. Mastan Kathat and engineers from M/S K.K. Construction guide the trainees to

understand the new techniques of construction. The trainees found the site visit very interesting and

informative.
