Homework
How Much Homework Is Expected?
30 minutes of homework for each of the following subject areas each week: • English (includes the use of Reading Plus) • Mathematics• Languages (includes the use of Language Perfect)
It is also expected that students complete 15-20 minutes of independent reading 5 nights of the week.

‘It’s not OK to stay away’.
Your child’s absence, or lateness may be approved via the Compass Parent Portal or a written note provided to the Administration or House office.

Please read through the Orientation Booklet.
Out of uniform – note from parents/carers to the House Office who will issue a uniform pass
Sport Uniform – may be worn to school the days they have PE or Dance.

The main concern we have at GHS in terms of uniform is shoes.

• Any device that may connect to or have similar functionality to a mobile phone such as smartwatches.
• Phones must be switched off and secured in their locker during the school day.
• A ‘school day’ is defined as from the time the student arrives at school until the time they leave for the day.
• The school does not accept responsibility for loss or damage

Mobile Phones
Parents are to inform the Administration office if they are collecting their child during the school day.
Students are not to call Parents/Carers to be picked up from school. They must see someone in the House Office or Administration Office.

Leaving during the day
Sick at home: if your child is unwell and cannot attend school please…….
Telephone the school orLog-on to Compass and update the attendance.
Sick at school: Students are to report to the office and they will be attended to by first aid staff. If required, parents will be telephoned to collect their child.
Illness
Canteen• lunch orders are to be placed before school
and at recess, or you can buy direct from the canteen. EFTPOS is available.
Buses• Parents will need to contact the appropriate
bus company for details of pickup points and routes. Make sure you have your Myki card.

Orientation Day…is Tuesday 8th December• Detailed information has been emailed (yesterday) to
families regarding the arrangements for this day.• Drop off and pick up locations (refer to the map

Making a ‘smooth’ transition
Tips for students:• Be open to making new friends • Get involved in the many extra-
curricular programs and opportunities offered.
• Make a good first impression • Try your best in class.• Be organised
• Pack the bag the night before• Develop a study routine at home
• Never be afraid to ask for help• Enjoy it! Making new friends and learning new things is
exciting.
First day back (7 & 12)Thursday 28th January
Be at school no later than 8:30am and assemble outside the CA Love Hall.
School PhotosAll students will be photographed on Friday 29th, January 2021 for School ID cards and student photo packs (first day of classes)
