25TH JUNE – 7TH JULY
2012
For 28 years, Ivo-Jan van der Werff has been a member of the MEDICI STRING QUARTET, playing in over 2000 concerts worldwide and recording more than 40 cd’s including an acclaimed set of the complete quartets of Beethoven as well as viola works of Arnold Bax and Max Reger.
For 10 years he was a professor of viola and chamber music at the Royal College of Music London, and in 2007 joined the faculty as professor of viola at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, Houston.
THE COURSE
The course is designed for undergraduate viola students aged 18 and over, graduate students, or young professionals who may be working towards auditions, recitals or just want a ‘refresher’.
There will be a minimum of 4 private lessons, participation in master classes and the opportunity to play in a public concert.
There will be a technical workshop each day primarily centered on ideas and exercises from my book ‘A Notebook for Viola Players’.
My duo partner SIMON MARLOW will assist on the piano, playing for lessons, classes and concerts.
STRING QUARTET
This is an ideal opportunity to focus intensively as a quartet, daily rehearsals, frequent coaching sessions, study 1 or 2 works and perform in the final concert.
