Tour of Duty: Full time. The positions may be filled competitively, non-competitively, through temporary promotion NTE 120, detail, lateral reassignment or other hiring authority.

Duty Station: These positions have a flexible duty station location, preferably within 1 ½ hours of a major airport, and within commuting distance of a Forest Service office location.

About the Enterprise Program: The Enterprise Program operates in a fee-for-service business model as an agile branch of the Forest Service delivering highly skilled on-demand services supporting land and resource management activities. Enterprise is a national program organized under Washington Office, Business Operations. The Program was created to support increased productivity and effectiveness through applying business practices within the Forest Service infrastructure. Enterprise employees are nimble and able to supply rapid response services across all levels of the Forest Service. This is particularly advantageous to the agency

About these Positions:GS-810-12 Transportation:The work involves managing various work orders through all aspects of project management. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the scope, schedule, and budget of work orders, performing coordination with Forests, and organizing the daily work tasks of 3-5 people in accomplishing the projects. The position is responsible for the supervision of 3-5 engineers/engineering technicians.

This project may involve coordination of work teams to accomplish a variety of engineering tasks including topographic surveys, road condition surveys, development of road maintenance and design plans, preparation of damage survey reports (DSRs) for ERFO sites, shepherding contracts through the contracting process, contract administration and project closeout.

Project work includes conducting site investigations and engineering site surveys, collaborating with client units on road designs, preparing road designs, preparing construction contract packages, and serving as contracting officer’s representative (or ER) for timber sales and other roads projects. Some transportation planning skills are needed with specific tasks including road condition surveys, writing reports, and developing cost estimates.

GS-810-12 AOP/Bridges/Structures:Project work includes conducting site investigations and engineering site surveys for aquatic organism passage structures and bridges; collaborating with hydrologists and other client staffs on fish passage structure design, and preparing construction contract packages. This position will be responsible for overall design, preliminary studies, superstructure and substructure structural calculations with a variety of materials.

Work will involve performing site stream and road topographic surveys, performing NBIS bridge inspections and trail bridge inspections and performing bridge load ratings. Maintaining INFRA data will also be part of the responsibilities. This position will prepare and administer architect/engineer (AE) consultant contracts for design or other professional services and serve as Contracting Officer’s Representative for construction contracts.

A professional engineering license is required for this position. A simple knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics as well as simple analysis of geotechnical lab and boring results is desired.

GS-802-9/10/11 Roads Technician:Project work includes conducting site investigations and engineering site surveys, preparing road designs, preparing construction contract packages, and serving as contracting officer’s representative (or ER) for timber sales, road projects, facility construction, AOP, and other projects. This position will also prepare ERFO damage

survey reports and public works contracts. Minor transportation planning and road layout will be part of this position as well. AutoCAD proficiency is desired.

The Enterprise Program is funded totally from project work, which can cause priorities to change rapidly, depending on customer needs. While “enterprising” is demanding, it is also exciting.
