Mary, Savannah, Wilder, Gabe, Finn, Remi, Caroline, Mallory, and Mabel have exceeded their first goal. Word Wizards- Gabe (313,458), Finn (256,954), Mary (180,350), Kaila (174,410), Caroline (168,785), and Mabel (119,788). Enrichment and Extension Opportunities By Monday, your child will have the current Math+Science Connection, Reading Connection, Recipes for Success, and double-sided December activity calendars. While all are optional, I encourage students to select at least one of the four to complete and submit by Dec. 21. As of Nov. 30, the class has read a combined total of 822 books and 1,629,545 words, as shown by passed AR tests. Mary, Savannah, Wilder, Gabe, Finn, Remi, Caroline, Mallory, and Mabel have exceeded their first goal.

Word Wizards- Gabe (313,458), Finn (256,954), Mary (180,350), Kaila (174,410), Caroline (168,785), and Mabel (119,788).

Most books read-Savannah (101), Gabe (86), Mabel (81), Caroline (75), and Wilder (72).

Thank you for reviewing your child’s organizational tools (OTs). Look for the blue AVID folder and planner/agenda (to sign) each night.

AVID Elementary incorporates:

Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.

Organizational Skills – both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal setting.

WICOR Lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to learn in all content areas.

Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.

Homework-Wk. of Dec. 4-8, 2017 (with standards)

There will be no Scholastic News magazines sent home this month as homework.

Reading: Mon.-Thurs. nights-Students read from an appropriate-level, just right, good fit AR book for 20+ minutes and record the title in the AVID planner/agenda. (LAFS.2.RF.4.4.a)

Science and Writing: Students investigate the ways magnets are used at home, and record their findings in the nightly journal. Due Fri. (SC.2.P.8.1)

Reading and Writing: Students read two fables from ReadWorks and complete the accompanying questions (LAFS.2.RL.1.2). Due Fri.

As schedule permits: Students practice math skills online in Prodigy and Khan Academy (includes MAFS. 2. OA.2.2 and MAFS.NBT.1.2).

Mabel will celebrate her special day on Dec. 30.

Specials-Wk. of Dec. 4-8, 2017

Mon., Dec. 4-PE with Coach Allen, 1:45-2:25. Wear socks and sneakers, and pull back hair.

Tues., Dec. 5-Music with Mr. Gafford, 1:45-2:25.

Wed., Dec. 6-Art with Mr. Lewis, 10:10-10:50.

Thurs., Dec. 7-Computer Lab with Ms. Rhodin, 1:45-2:25.

Fri., Dec. 8-PE with Coach Allen, 1:45-2:25. Socks and sneakers, please.
