UNIT 1Transformers: Principle of operation, Constructional details of shell type and core type single-phase and three-phase transformers, distribution transformer and power transformer. EMF equation, Concept of ideal transformers operation of practical transformer at no load and load (R, L, C loads with phasor diagrams). 3 hours

Performance analysis of Transformers: Transformer circuit parameters, equivalent circuit, losses, efficiency, condition for maximum efficiency, all day efficiency. Open circuit and Short circuit tests, calculation of parameters of equivalent circuit. Voltage regulation, predetermination of efficiency and voltage regulation. Sumpner’s test. 5 hours

UNIT 2Parallel operation of transformers - Polarity of transformers, polarity test, necessity and conditions for parallel operation. Load sharing in case of similar and dissimilar transformers.
