NEW PRODUCT Segment by David Tran
Unfortunately I was unable to attend
our club outing at the Camellia
Gardens, as Margo has not been well,
but hopefully she will be improving each week. I
have heard it was a great success and everyone who
attended had a good time. A lot of video footage
was taken, and as this is a very attractive location,
we should see some very good film taken.
At our May meeting we will have as our presenter
Robert (Bob) Bell, a very experienced videogra-
pher. He has covered Documentaries, film shoots,
and has been involved with Helicopter filming. I
think he told me he has been shooting with Drones
as well. He is experienced in audio, not sure about
lighting, but is a very experienced person.

See you at our next meeting. Stay Focused and Start Shooting. Bob Hallett President
I thought last month’s meeting went
well. Thank you Trish for running the
Scriptwriting presentation.
I thought the new portable wireless
Audio System (with microphone
and built-in amplifier)
that John Wilson got us
worked very well and
will be easier to set up
ready to go, when we
start our meetings.
I also must thank Jan and our ‘early
birds’ for setting up the room before we
start as it makes it so much easier to
start on time.
Thank you for keeping well away from the main
room when supper was served and also for putting
the chairs back. It certainly is a big help and makes
it a lot easier to get away on time.
Just also remember not to stand
outside and talk as the noise carries,
and as we have a good place for our
club nights, I would hate us to lose it.
We also must think about our closing
time of 10pm so that Jan can be ready to close up.
I know it is very hard at times as we have been
having full agendas.
If you would like to show a
video in our ‘Show and
Tell’ segment, please ring
me, or email Josie one
week prior to the meeting
night so that we can fit you into the
programme. Please keep your video under
3 minutes if possible. We all would love to see
your video productions.
If you are planning to give a
presentation that would be of
general interest to our mem-
bers, we would also like to be
informed in advance so that we
can work out where to put you
in the programme.
Thank you for the entries
submitted into the first Video
Competition for 2015.
I know the standard will be
very high, and Ron Potter,
your competition manager, has downloaded your
entries and will be sending them off to be judged.
Ron will tell you more at our next club night. Good
luck to all entrants.
We at the committee meetings are always trying to
make our club nights interesting and present a
different night each time we meet. Our committee
has worked out some very good meeting nights
throughout this year. We are always looking at
ideas for our club members and if anyone would
like to suggest an idea for the night, your opinion is
always welcome.

There were
three people
using monopods
to steady their
shots, one with
a tripod,
When some rain came we dashed for the cover of
one of the pergolas where weddings normally take
place. We ate food we brought with us while sitting
next to the flowing creek.
The weather could have
been better but we still had
a good roll-up for the club
outing at Camellia Gardens.
The choice of cameras was a reflection of the
evolution in capture devices.
There was an iPad from Apple, a
tiny Point of View camera from
Canon and a larger camcorder from
Canon (which was the only
‘conventional’ camcorder on the day).
Panasonic was represented by
a mirrorless stills camera - the
GH3, and a mirrorless A7s
stills camera from Sony
rounded out the variety.
All were High Definition
and all were ‘tapeless’. The
diverseness of the ‘devices’
just shows how manufactur-
ers are willing to cater for
us, ‘the customer’.
I almost forgot...
some people were
also seen recording
on their mobile
phones. The func-
tionality of devices
vary greatly with
two of them having interchangeable lenses and
being able to take high megapixel stills, and the
others with fixed lenses, but attachments are
available.
After a closer
inspection of the
chairs we were
sitting on, we
learned that they
have some
history behind
them - they were
made by Furphy,
in Shepparton Victoria,
the same company that
made water carts that
supplied our diggers in
WW1... it just seemed so
appropriate, this being
the centenary year of
ANZAC DAY.
and the club slider
was called into
action to film the
ducks on one of
the ponds. All of
the ‘devices’ will
give great results,
some with very
little input from
the operator apart from framing the shot.

We now have only two more meetings until the end
of the financial year and time again to renew our
membership fees for the 2015/2016 year.
As advised in our last newsletter, the decline in
club membership as well as increased running costs
has had a negative impact on our club’s finances,
which has left the committee with no other option
but to increase the club membership fees for the
coming year.
Club membership fees for the
2015-2016 year are due on the
1st July 2015 as follows:
$65.00 single membership
$85.00 joint membership
(husband/wife-partner)
Fees must be paid in full by the 31st August 2015,
or members shall be deemed "unfinancial" and
shall forfeit all benefits of club membership.
When renewing fees please ensure that you check
particulars listed on your membership renewal form
and advise me of any changes to your contact
details (ie phone or email) to enable newsletters
and other messages to be sent correctly.
Annual General Meeting A reminder also that our Annual General meeting
will be held on the 8th July, when your current
committee will stand down and all positions
declared vacant. During our meeting on the 10th
June we will call for members who would like to
nominate themselves for any position on the
incoming committee. Those members’ names will
then be published in our newsletter prior to our July
meeting.
If only one person nominates for any position
he/she will be elected in July without members
having to vote on that position. If more than one
person stands for any position, members will be
issued with a ballot form advising of the nominees
for that position and will be asked to vote on their
choice for that position.
‘Edius’ User Group A reminder that the Edius User
Group meets at our club meeting
room in Maddecks Ave Moorebank
on the 1st Wednesday of the month
at 7.30pm. The cost to attend this
group is now $7.00 per person for
SWVC club members, which covers
room hire, supper, and other running costs.
Visitors to this group (NOT presenters) will be
charged $7.00 for their first attendance and $15.00
per person for subsequent attendances unless they
choose to become members.
Lucky Draw The club’s Lucky Draw continues to be a success-
ful revenue raiser for our club and I thank those
members once again who continue to support us by
purchasing tickets. Although we now only offer
wine and chocolates as our prizes, the majority of
members still continue to purchase $5.00 worth of
tickets, which assists in our costs to provide tea,
coffee biscuits etc.
That's all for now and I look forward to catching up
with members at our next club meeting on the
13th May 2015
.....until then......

EDIUS User Group Report Welcome to our part of the newsletter. First of all I would like to ask you if you have
downloaded the latest version of Edius. We are now at Edius 7.5 which became available
on Thursday 16th April, so I thought this is a good time to go over the proper way of
installing the update.
When you go into your Edius, you will be met with a notice that a new version is avail-
able. Take the following steps:
1. click on the download OK button and Save it to your hard drive. Do not open it up
within Edius.
2. Close off Edius and go to the directory where the file has been saved to.
3.Open the file from this directory, and let itself extract from outside of Edius.
Early on I used to try to open the download from within Edius and each time I got the error message.
So do as I said and you will have no problem.
The other point I would like to inform you of is that Edius will shortly bring in a totally new version of the
Program, and from what I read, it could cost some money. However at this time they have not released any
information as to when it will come and the cost of it.
I get the Australian Videocamera magazine whenever it happens to come out, and in the last one... behold...
our Edius got a mention! As you will see below, it got Gold in the software section... not bad!
Going away a little from Edius, I'm happy to inform you that in the ‘essential accessories’ categories, another
of our programs got the Silver. You have all
seen my demonstration a few
years ago of ProDAD
ProDrenalin. This is espe-
cially important now, due to
the fact that David Tran is
selling the new Action
Camera, and ProDrenalin does the fastest
correction of the fisheye of any program I
have seen. Hopefully I will be able to show
you shortly at an upcoming meeting.

What about our last meeting on the 6th May with our special guest Anton
Strauss (from “Antons Video Productions”)?!
It was so nice to finally have a guest presenter that can really show us so many
different ways of using our Edius editing program, and I must say Anton is the
guru when it comes to handling Edius... the things he knows, and more to the
point, the techniques he does not know are not worth bothering about! Anton
has kept us all at the edge of our seats with his knowledge and with the ease
with which he changed from one demo to another.
I hope that we will be able to invite Anton again in the not-too-distant future. I, for one, can't wait for his next
visit. Anton showed us some new parts of Edius 7.5. I'm only happy that Jan filmed the full presentation, and
I'm looking forward to learn more from the DVD.
I was also very happy to see some new faces at
Anton's presentation, and some not-so-new faces. I
think our User Group appears to be going
from strength to strength.
Keep up the good work.

Although our club outing to Camellia Gardens was
interrupted couple of times by light rain, it did not
deter those who attended from having an enjoyable
day. Some forgot to bring umbrellas, so they had
fun ‘singing in the rain’!
Some of the camellias were still in bud, but there
was no shortage of video or photo opportunities as
we made our way through a multitude of familiar
and exotic plants and flowers.
A stream meandering through the gardens provided
more opportunities to capture worthwhile shots.
... Ultimately ... discovering a spare umbrella!

President Bob Hallett
unfortunately was
unable to attend as wife
Margo was ill, but he
did contact us by phone
to apologize and to see
how the day was
progressing ... As videographers are known to
video everything in their path, John even filmed my
mobile phone while Bob was enjoying a long con-
versation with us, providing us with lots of laughs!
It turned out to be a fun day, culminating in a most
enjoyable afternoon tea with the “stayers”.
John generously shared his exotic delicious dessert
with us!
