Greetings, LGE Families! Please remember that if you have a concern or issue, call Ms. Carmichael or me. We are here to talk through and resolve issues with you. Our goal is to always do what is in the best interest of the child. We can be reached via email on our website or by phone at 770 957 5416. Christi Peterman SchoolStore.com Locust Grove Elementary has partnered with SchoolStore.com as an on-going fundraising partner. In January a flyer went home describing the program. Basically, LGE will receive anywhere from 4%-50% of the total price of your online purchases from a variety of stores including BestBuy, Walmart, Kohls, Old Navy, Office Depot etc. This is FREE MONEY to LGE! All you need to do to make your purchases count is log on to SchoolStore.com and enter our school code 50218. The rest is simple! Another neat part of this program are “caring cards” that families can purchase online to support our teachers. We had more than $600 in “caring cards” purchased for our teachers by parents, grandparents, neighbors, aunts/uncles etc. These cards allow the teachers to purchase supplies, resources and videos for their classrooms. AND the best part…our students earn prizes for your purchases. We received our first “PRIZE/PAYMENT BOX” in February. Our teachers were OVERJOYED and the kids loved the unexpected prizes!!!! Thanks to YOU, your FAMILIES and FRIENDS, we have earned $500! That’s just in the first month. CHECK IT OUT if you haven’t yet… it’s a cool program!

Hello first grade parents!Your children are working hard this year! We have just finished a

unit on telling time and are now moving toward addition and subtraction. In social studies, the students can tell you the major contributions of Thomas Jefferson. We are going to continue working on the important American historical figures in the next upcoming month. Your young writers are learning how to revise and edit their writings. They are doing a great job. They will be creating personal narratives at the beginning of the month. In reading, our smart 1st graders are reading informational text and asking and answering questions using the text. Be proud of your students they are working hard. Thank you for all of your support! The first grade team!

Title I Family Fitness Night … Exercising your Body & Brain for Academic Success!

Monday, February 9, 2015 6:00-7:15 pm LGE GYM

We were so excited to see the line of parents waiting to take part in Family Fitness Night presented by our Title I Team! It was a cold night, but that didn’t keep our families away from learning variety of ways they can exercise their bodies and brains for school success.

Coach Smith and Ms. Lunn put together 6 physical fitness stations, 4 brain boosting exercise stations, and a whole group Brain Gym exercise station that was projected on the wall for all to see.

The LGE staff was on hand to answer questions about how Brain Gym exercises can be used in the classroom and at home. Many were alongside the students exercising their brains at the brain boosting station. Ms. Evans set the record for most jump ropes in a row! Ms. Ponder and Ms. were close behind. Coach Smith went around the fitness stations explaining how a strong body creates a strong mind. Our parents jumped right in as well, literally. We had several parents show off their “double-dutch” and “hoop” skills!

Thanks to everyone who came out and participated. It was a fun night that offered simple ways to exercise our student (and parent) bodies and brains. Remember that a Strong Body + Strong Brain =

SUCCESS

LGE is a school-wide Title I school that receives extra funding from the State and Federal government to support student academic success.

ALL LGE teachers and para-educators are Highly Qualified. This mean they are the best of the best and we are proud to have them as part of our Wildcat Team!

The 2014-15 LGE Parent Involvement Plan and Compact for School Success has been sent out. Extra copies are available in the Family Resource Room (Room #1), as well as in the front office and on the LGE website: www.henry.k12.ga.us/lge. New families registering should receive a copy to review and then return the acknowledgement form. This is a Title I requirement and it’s important for everyone to know what LGE has planned for student

academic success!

If you need transportation to a meeting or workshop, school papers or other documents translated or need the services of a translator, please contact Kimberly Lunn 770) 957-5416 or [email protected] and she’ll be happy to help you out.

LGE Has a Parent Team that meets monthly to discuss school activities, data and other information. Check the website for dates. Everyone is welcome to join us and give input and ideas about how to make LGE the best it can be!

LGE spends 1% of its Title I Budget on Parent Involvement/ Engagement resources and activities. A survey was sent out at the beginning of the year, asking for your input on how we can best use money. If you have suggestions or resources you’d like to see in the Wildcat Resource Room, please contact Ms. Kim. All our family resources are housed in the Wildcat Resource Room (#1 across from the office). Stop in and see what we have that you can use at home to support your child’s academic success! LGE wants to meet the needs of all our families. If you need anything translated into your own language, we can provide that for you. Also if you need transportation to LGE for PAWS Conferences, Parent/Teacher Meetings or other Activities we can help!
