Position purposeThe purpose of this position is to provide support, guidance and resources to educators through an innovative and high quality family day care program for children ages 0-5 years which meets their physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs. Knowledge and ability to implement the National Quality Framework and Early Years Learning Framework is also necessary.

Main outcomes Supervise and support a caseload of educators as they provide high quality service to

children in their care, which involves visits to carers on a monthly basis. Interview families requiring child care and assess suitable placement of children. Liaise with parents and promote open and positive communication about all aspects of

progress of individual children. Provide or arrange transportation for educators and children to attend playgroup sessions

and organise the play sessions at Family Day Care Centre. Maintain toy library including purchase of toys and organising lending arrangements. Refer families to relevant early intervention services when appropriate. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding agreements and Council policies. Update the Harmony program relating to the fortnightly payment of the educators. Maintain all Council records including developmental records. Update waiting list on a regular basis. Supervise regular risk assessments. Attend staff meetings, internal training courses, and Family Day Care Regional meetings. Recruit new educators and provide appropriate training outside work hours. Supervise the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality programs for the

scheme. Participate in the implementation of the National Quality Standards and the National

Quality Framework. Supervise, support and evaluate educators in accordance with Council policies. Participate in Family Day Care promotional events.

Skills, knowledge and experienceSelection Criteria - EssentialDegree in Early Childhood or a Diploma of Education (Early Childhood) or equivalent as approved by the Department of Education and Communities.Eligible for employment under the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998, and the Commission and Young People Act 1998.Demonstrated experience in providing high quality care and education for children up to 5 years including babies, and working with children with additional needs.Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate an innovative early childhood program.Demonstrated skills in supervising and supporting educators.Knowledge pertaining to additional needs children including a knowledge of up to date practice and programs.Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations, guidelines and policies relating to child care.Knowledge and awareness of current programs and theories and Children’s Services issues.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.A strong commitment and highly motivated to deliver quality customer service.A positive, professional and co-operative approach to working with others.Current Drivers Licence

Workplace Health and Safety: Workers have overall responsibility, accountability and

authority to ensure their workplace is a healthy and safe workplace for all workers. in addition to responsibilities noted in their position description, will have the following work health and safety (WHS) responsibilities:

Participate in the implementation of WHS information within Council’s Safety Management System (SMS)
