VIETNAM WAR OPPOSITION TO IT
In 1968 there was a Anti-war protest for the war in Vietnam organized outside the embassy of
London, in which 200 people were arrested. This led to a bigger problem outside Trafalgar
Square in which about 10,000 people showed they were against the American action in
Vietnam.

VIETNAM (1960-1970's)
What media was used?
The Vietnam War was the first warto be showed by the media to the
public. Using real combat footage. This changed drastically theopinion on what people thought
about the war. Television showedthe coverage of the war, but couldnot show America winning the war,
just showed American soldierskilling Vietnamese civilians, the Tet
Offensive is one example of this.
Even though, some peoplecritizized the media for not
showing everything. Forexample, Noam Chomskyand Edward Herming, in
their book "ManufacturingConsent", stated the medacensored the most brutal
parts, therefore notshowing the reality.

IRAQ 8(2003-2011)
What media was used?
In the early days of this war, 77% of onlineAmericans used the Internet with some
connection to the war. To get information,
to share opinions, etc. There were about
200 known blogs created by soldiers that
detailed day to day experiences of the war.
Also gave information about the most
brutal events that they thought the mediadid not show. The captain of the Florida
National Guard, Jason Van Steenwyk
served in iraq from May 2003 to February
2004. He said that Tv networks and
newspapers focused on the violence when
covering the Iraqui elections, for thisreason he created his blog
"Countercolumn" which showed his view
of the war.
Soldiers have used the internet as a medium to offer a different side of the
war, the one the media did not portrayed.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the media played a big part in both the Vietnam andIraq wars. In the Vietnam war, it was the first war to be televised and
it gave the people at home an insight of the war, either for good or
for bad. In 1975, Marshall McLuhan said, Television brought the
brutality of war into the comfort of the living room. Vietnam was lost
in the living rooms of America, not on the battlefields of Vietnam. This shows what some people thought about the media, because it
showed the people the truth.
The Iraq war was very similar, because it was the first war with
internet coverage. People had easy access to what exactly was
happening in Iraq, and found articles both for or against the war.
This also affected peoples views as they had more information
about the war which was not necessarily coming from the
government.
