Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing – An International Journal Call for Papers: Special Issue on “Challenges, Trends and Solutions for 3-D Imaging and Video” There are still many hurdles to overcome before we experience 3-D visual sensation on a daily basis in our lives. Nevertheless, 3-D innovations are being continuously presented in scientific, broadcasting and medical conventions, to name a few. Different applications will benefit from the 3-D sensation such as television, cinema, games, virtual studios, (3-D) immersion, (3-D) imaging for medicine, and many others. Over-the-air 3-D experimental broadcasting using various formats, new 3-D gear, remotely aligned camera rigs for stereoscopic 3-D production, 3-D displays, and solutions for 3-D productions are making the news. 3-D imaging and processing have considerably grown leading to a number of challenges including 3-D acquisition, production, representation, processing, editing, compression, transmission, optimization and visualization, etc. This special issue aims to bring together researchers from academia and industry to present recent developments in image/video processing algorithms targeting 3-D applications, technologies and services. Call for Papers: Special Issue on Challenges, Trends and Solutions for 3-D Imaging and Video

There are still many hurdles to overcome before we experience 3-D visual sensation on a daily

basis in our lives. Nevertheless, 3-D innovations are being continuously presented in scientific,

broadcasting and medical conventions, to name a few. Different applications will benefit from the

3-D sensation such as television, cinema, games, virtual studios, (3-D) immersion, (3-D) imaging

for medicine, and many others. Over-the-air 3-D experimental broadcasting using various formats,

new 3-D gear, remotely aligned camera rigs for stereoscopic 3-D production, 3-D displays, and

solutions for 3-D productions are making the news. 3-D imaging and processing have considerably

grown leading to a number of challenges including 3-D acquisition, production, representation,

processing, editing, compression, transmission, optimization and visualization, etc.

This special issue aims to bring together researchers from academia and industry to present recent

developments in image/video processing algorithms targeting 3-D applications, technologies and

services. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

    1. Free Viewpoint Video and Depth Image Based Rendering

    2. Intermediate View Interpolation

    3. Stereoscopic and Multi-view Image/Video Processing and Coding

    4. Depth/disparity map coding

    5. Stereoscopic and Multi-view Visualization

    6. Visual Comfort and Quality for 3DTV

    7. 3-D Perception and Interaction

    8. Quality assessment for 3-D (objective and subjective)

    9. Human Factors in Stereoscopy

    10. 3-D Imaging Techniques

    TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

    Submission due: April 1, 2011

Notification of paper acceptance: August 15, 2011

    Publication date: January 2012

    PAPER SUBMISSION
