1. Videos submitted on a USB flash drive, divided into chapters

2. Parent permission required for each student3. Instruction provided in groups of 2-4

4. Videos should be edited to 20-30 minutes approximate

Strategic Literacy Support Cycle

Reading

This cycle uses the same book or text in all phases

Cold readThis is a baseline performance with no teacher support

Book Introduction

Focused on both comprehension and features of text

Read Aloud

Teacher reads the book aloud, asking the students to follow along

while pointing to text

Shared Reading

Teacher points to text while reading with students

Guided Reading

Students read aloud, at their own pace, teacher prompts at point of error 

Independent Reading

Focus student reads text, teacher takes a Record of Oral Reading

Copy of text and the Record of Oral Reading should be turned in with theVideo

Writing

Writing focused on a shared experience. Same theme followed during all  phases

Cold write

This is a baseline performance with no teacher support

Modeled writing

Teacher uses “think aloud” procedures during writing

Interactive writingTeacher and students share the pen during construction of text

 Note: both modeled and interactive writing use enlarged text and chart  paper 

Guided writing

Students continue theme with teacher support at point of error 

Independent writing

Students write independently with minimal teacher support

Copies of student writing samples should be turned in with the video
