Schools commemorate Racial Harmony Day on 21 July annually. The school has planned a week-long activities to commemorate this special day. This year, the theme for Racial Harmony Day (RHD) is Our Heritage. It has been 51 years since independence and we have been enjoying harmony through the years. The younger generation has a big role to play in determining if Singapore continues to enjoy harmony for years to come. The next lap is in the hands of the young, who must take ownership of building harmony in our society. To commemorate this special day, an assembly talk, in collaboration with Language Fiesta, was conducted on 18 July 2016. A series of activities were also conducted for the pupils on 18, 19 and 21 July 2016. Pupils had the opportunity to learn the proper way of using a pair of chopsticks, as well as the making of Bunga Manggar during the respective recesses. In addition, pupils also had lots of fun with Henna Drawing. Racial Harmony Day ended with the Orange Ribbon Movement activity. The orange ribbon is a symbol of harmony, equality, freedom and universal brotherhood. Pupils put on their orange ribbons to pledge their commitment in maintaining racial harmony for the years to come. The atmosphere over these few days was certainly one filled with nostalgia and excitement for many.

National Day Celebration & NE

Sporty Carnival

NDP 2016 marks the first NDP for the next 50 years in our journey towards SG100. The Theme for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) is “Building our Singapore of Tomorrow”. “Building” implies that nation-building can be realized with hard work. “Our Singapore” invokes in Singaporeans a sense of belonging and rootedness to the country and our future. “Tomorrow” is forward looking and connotes the start of the next chapter post SG50. Taken together, the theme is a call to action for Singaporeans to build our future together. To celebrate our nation’s birthday, we embarked on the SG51 Montage Project, a bottle cap art montage put together by the teachers, students and non-teaching staff in Evergreen Primary school. Every member of the school came together to piece bottle caps of various shapes, sizes and colours to represent their aspirations for Singapore in the next 50 years. In doing so, we believe that everyone has a part to play in Singapore’s success and pledge to commit ourselves to build a brighter future together as one Singapore. Our school has also planned a series of events and activities on 8 August 2016. The theme for the celebration is ‘Soaring to Greater Heights’. Our guests participated in the Observance Ceremony in the morning before joining the students in The Great Singapore Workout. The highlight of the celebration was the flying of a drone with the Singapore flag making its way to the parade square to launch the SG51 Montage piece. The pupils were exhilarated as they watched the drone flying above them as they sang the NDP Theme Song “Tomorrow’s Here Today”. This was followed by the P1 to P3 Sporty NET in the hall where the lower primary pupils get to participate in a variety of inter-class games. Meanwhile, our P4 to P6 pupils were engaged in fun and engaging activities in the classrooms. Through these activities, we hope that our pupils can reflect, participate and express what National Day, and most importantly, what being Singaporean mean to them.

Students Exchange

Programme

Hangzhou Immersion Programme A group of selected Primary 5 Chinese Language pupils went on an overseas immersion programme to Hangzhou in May. The main objective of this learning journey was to increase pupils' knowledge and sensitivity to cultures that are different from their own. During this trip, pupils had the opportunity to visit Renmin Primary School and many historic places in Hangzhou. Throughout the trip, they experienced learning in a different context and made new friends in Renmin Primary School. The pupils also enjoyed learning about the rich history and culture of Hangzhou.

Hosting of Hangzhou Pupils A group of 30 pupils and 5 teachers from Renmin Primary School came to our school for a 4 Day exchange in July. They experienced many different cultural activities such as batik painting, playing of different traditional games and trying of different traditional food. In this way, they can have a better understanding of our different cultures. Our pupils have also benefited from this exchange by learning and exchanging their views of each other’s culture.
