Introduction-

What is fuel level gauge?

It mainly consist of

-sensing unit.

-indicator unit.

Need of fuel level gauge.

The sensing unit usually uses a floatconnected to a potentiometer.

As the tank empties, the float drops

and slides a moving contact along theresistor, increasing its resistance. In

addition, when the resistance is at a

certain point, it will also turn on a "lowfuel" light on some vehicles.

Indicator unit-

Usually mounted on the dashboard.

It measure and display the amount of

electrical current flowing through the

sending unit.The tank level is high and maximum

current is flowing, the needle points to

"F" indicating a full tank Vice versa "E"indicating an empty tank.

Operation-

The fuel level is detected on the principle

of electrical capacitance change

The capacitance change causes an

electric circuit to oscillate and switching

the transistor off.

The probe and electronic circuitry are

enclosed within within single unit.
