Via Angeli 60, Apricale, ITALY Rooftop dining This five hundred year old, two double bedroom, hilltop house is an hour or so away from Nice in an unspoilt corner of Italy. Via Angeli 60 is built of stone, and is perched high up on the edge of the medieval village of Apricale. Its vaulted ceilings, steep stone staircase, balcony and covered roof terrace, catch the breeze, making it cool in summer but cosy in winter. The house is arranged on three floors within the historic core of Apricale. Of the 10 very different medieval villages on La Strada del Olio, Apricale is recognised as the prettiest with the sunniest piazza - the name comes from the Latin “Apricus”, meaning open to the sun. It is one of only seven villages in Italy with ‘most beautiful’ status. The house has a comfortable sitting room with TV and DVD, log fire and full central heating. The sunny dining kitchen is well equipped (for 6-8 people) with a fridge/freezer, pantry and gas cooker. The loggia (covered roof terrace) is a delightful space with breathtaking all round views of the village and surrounding countryside and is equipped with a large dining table and 6 chairs. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed and room for an extra folding bed or cot, a balcony overlooking the valley which has a small table and a couple of chairs, ideal for sitting out with an evening glass of wine as the sun sets, or simply to view the world go by. This five hundred year old, two double bedroom, hilltop house is an hour or so away from Nice in an unspoilt corner of Italy. !The house has a comfortable sitting room with TV and DVD, log fire and full central heating. The sunny dining kitchen is well equipped (for 6-8 people) with a fridge/freezer, pantry and gas cooker. The loggia (covered roof terrace) is a delightful space with breathtaking all round views of the village and surrounding countryside and is equipped with a large dining table and 6 chairs. size bed in the second bedroom. There is also a single sofa bed in the sitting room. The stone construction and all round windows keep the house cool but there are fans and bed nets in both bedrooms for sultry nights. !The bathroom is new with toilet, hand sink and shower. A hair dryer is supplied. Bed linen, towels for the beach and house, logs and central heating are all included in the price. A plumbed-in washing machine and drying area has been set up in the loggia and an iron and ironing board are also available. A cot and high chair are available on request. !Apricale’s shops, cafés and good restaurants are open all year round, which make it the perfect base from which to explore the wider area, but the village has a lot to offer in its own right. Surrounding the piazza are the medieval castle, the museum, several lovely churches and an old town hall. The school, shops and houses all cling together on a knife-edge of hillside, linked by narrow tunnels, alleyways, bridges and terraces. The whole village is impenetrable to modern transport although there are plenty of parking spaces on the periphery. !From Apricale the sophisticated French and Italian Riviera beaches are a short drive, bus or train ride away, but swimming in the deep river pools of Rocchetta or the River Nervia near Pigna, and sun bathing on the rocks nearby is also a lovely way to relax. In winter, lunch in the fresh air, walking or cycling the many miles of tracks and footpaths in the Riviera sunshine or climbing the snow capped mountains which overlook the Nervia valley are all popular pastimes. If you are looking for something more strenuous there are some serious mountains to climb. The village is served by 4 or 5 buses a day, a bus stop being just below the house. !Rental for 2013 is £490 sterling per week. !!For further details, please contact us by e-mail on [email protected] or [email protected] or by phone 0044(0)141 946 6192 or visit our Apricale website at www.apricale.info. !!!Kate and Dave Phillips !!
