“Apps for our field engineers and technicians need to be intuitive with familiarity of navigation to drive adoption and productivity. Our workers are all very familiar with the iOS interface. Using SAP SDK for iOS and SAP Cloud platform we developed a mobile interface where technicians and engineers can have access to the information they need all the time, anywhere to plan and collaborate for faster delivery of Wind Turbine projects”.
Thomas Ove Rasmussen, business experience designer and solution architect at Invokers
At the heart of the company’s global vision, OnePlan is a project management tool that integrates data from multiple disciplines (supply chain, construction planning, components transportation) into a single user-friendly application.
Supported by SAP Cloud Platform and the software developer kit (SDK) for iOS, the company’s OnePlan vision brings it all together: the flow of turbine components to construction sites around the globe, on-site construction planning, and the exchange of information with vendors, partners, and customers.
New Digital Tools and SAP Mobile Apps Optimize Wind Turbines Installation projects
SAP Cloud Platform, SAP CP iOS SDK, SAP CP mobile services, SAP Cloud Connector (used for connecting the SAP backend system).
One Plan has resulted in Optimization & Standardization of Planning Processes around the globe. Saving of even 1 day per project, with more than 300 projects / year can translate into significant savings on labor and equipment costs. e.g rental cost saving of 1 day of a main crane is 10.000€
Result: 5 Million Euros on savings from improving planning and coordination
Our technicians and engineers have Global access to data.
We have a complex IT landscape, our solution is now not isolated but available around the World and integrated with our main systems and processes.
Available on and offline, easy to use app ensures accurate up-to date information available in real time for informed business decisions and process optimization

Solution OverviewAt the heart of the company’s global vision, OnePlan is a project management tool that integrates data from multiple disciplines (supply chain, construction planning, components transportation) into a single user-friendly application.
Supported by SAP Cloud Platform and the software development kit (SDK) for iOS, the company’s OnePlan vision brings it all together: the flow of turbine components to construction sites around the globe, on-site construction planning, and the exchange of information with vendors, partners, and customers. Back-end applications connect to the OnePlan solution via APIs.
The company’s site managers use this comprehensive flow of information to optimize the planning of construction activities on-site, and now they plan daily operations up to 14 days ahead, based on current maintenance and logistics data as well as weather forecasts.
Construction workers use their mobile iOS devices to report on their progress. Site managers consolidate this information to track and report on overall progress on-site. Using large high-resolution screens, OnePlan cockpits on location visualize the overall status at the construction site. This visualization allows teams to check actual progress vs. target, to annotate the current status of the work in progress, and to track and record the history of the entire construction project.
Information seekers (typically back-office workers) can access and drill down into freshly updated progress reports, allowing them to track, visualize and compare construction projects with turbines at different stages of completion.

BenefitsBusiness value:
Social value:
Human empowerment:
§ Optimization & Standardization of Planning Processes around the globe.§ Saving at least 1 day of labor hours per project (for more than 300 projects / year)§ Rental cost of 1 day of a main crane: 10.000€§ In Total: 5 Million Euros on savings from improving planning and coordination§ Data related to planning and construction progress is fed into SAP Analytics solutions for business intelligence, supporting the identification of patterns. The sharing
of information across sites support Vestas in better analytical agility in operations. Thanks to more accurate planning and highly efficient operations, Vestas is in excellent shape to deliver on its vision of greater competitiveness
§ Gaining competitive advantage to continue leading the way in harnessing the power of wind
§ Making wind turbine installations faster and less expensive, this initiative contributes to better adoption of wind energy which becomes more affordable and attractive for governments –especially developing countries – and energy providers.
§ By leveraging latest technology from SAP for their business, Vestas is actively contributing to the United Nations Sustainability Goal 13 to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
§ Discover how Vestas engineers work around the global to contribute to a cleaner environment by watching this video about the construction of the Lake Turkana Wind Park.
§ Vestas has three key requirements for its apps. Firstly, they need to run even without an internet connection. Some of the company’s construction sites are located in remote areas where there is no mobile network coverage. Users must be able to use their apps offline for a while; the apps will automatically synchronize with the system once a connection is available. Secondly, the apps need to be user friendly. Thirdly, the apps need to integrate with the company’s back-end software − primarily the Plant and Machine Maintenance module of SAP ERP and the company’s planning and project management application. SAP Cloud Platform allows us to fulfill all three requirements. Additionally, we achieved significant performance improvement in the application developed with the SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS

Quote“Each new app has to be consumer-graded, allowing users to intuitively explore it and teach themselves how to use it,” says Thomas Ove Rasmussen, business experience designer and solution architect at Invokers. “Most users are familiar with the iOS navigation paradigm. Naturally, an intuitive user interface helps drive adoption.”
“The intuitive nature and inherent security of Apple iOS plus the Cloud Platform as the tissue architecture make a very strong combination,” says Asier Vega Sanchez, IT architect at Vestas. “The relevant business services are hosted on the SAP Cloud Platform, which makes it fairly easy for us to expose these services to users on their mobile devices. Now we can develop consumer grade applications for internal use without long, lengthy design and development cycles.”
