Possessive and Plural Nouns Practice Task Cards includes 24 multiple choice task cards
that can be used to review, practice, or assess possessive and plural noun usage. The
set was created with an emphasis on possessive noun usage, and the task cards
include a mix of singular and plural possessive nouns. A few answers are the plural
forms of the words, and they were included to ensure that your students know when
to use plurals and when to use the possessive forms. There are two types of answer
keys as well as a half-page student recording form. Black and white versions of the
task cards are included as well as the color cards pictured above.
The cards were created to supplement the activities and printables in Possessive Noun
Showdown: Task Cards and More, although they can be used alone. If you need
additional resources for this skill, check out my “Take ’n Teach” Possessive and Plural
Noun Printables Pack.
Independent or Small Group Practice
The cards can be printed and used by individual students, in partner or team
activities, in literacy centers, or in small guided reading groups. Print the task cards on
sturdy cardstock or construction paper, and laminate them if possible. Cut the cards
apart and store each set in a plastic zippered bag. Be sure to print a cover card and
an answer key for each set of cards. When students bag up the cards, ask them to put
the cover on top and the answer key at the end. If you want students to record their
answers on paper, print a copy of the recording form for each student.
Whole Group Practice and/or Assessment
You have several options for using the multiple choice cards during
whole group instruction or with cooperative learning teams.
1. Team Scoot - You’ll need one task card and one recording form for
each student. Click this link to read the directions on Corkboard
Connections: Team Scoot - A New Twist on an Old Favorite
2. Showdown - You’ll need a set of task cards for each team, and each
student will need a dry erase board and marker. Click this link to read
the directions on Corkboard Connections: Show What You Know
3. Formative Assessment (Document Camera) - Display each task card, one at a time, using a document
camera and have your students respond on dry erase boards.
4. Formative Assessment (Digital Images and Plickers) - If you prefer not to print the cards, you can use the
task card images included with this product for “paperless” assessment by projecting them onto a screen.
You can also use the task card images with the free Plickers program described on the next page.
Common Core Alignment
These Possessive and Plural Noun task cards are aligned with the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Language
Standards below: L.3.1b, L.3.2d, L.4.1g, L.4.2d, L.5.1, and L.5.2e.

Plickers is a free, interactive assessment tool that uses “paper clickers” as
replacements for clicker devices. The teacher prints a unique Plicker card
for each student. During the lesson, the teacher displays a multiple choice
question, and students hold up their Plickers to respond. The teacher scans
the cards with a mobile device, similar to the way one would scan a QR
code. He or she can instantly see assessment data for that question including
who has the correct answer and who does not.
The main problem with Plickers is that teachers have to enter the
questions and answers manually. Fortunately, there’s a feature that
allows the user to import images for the questions which is a huge
time-saver. When you upload a task card image that has multiple
choice answers, you never have to type the questions or the answers!
To make this process easier for you, I’ve created images from all 24
Possessive and Plural Noun Task Cards. They’re in a separate folder
with a step-by-step tutorial, Plickers Made Easy with Task Cards.
To get started, go to www.plickers.com to set up your free account
and watch their online video tutorials. Then follow my Plickers tutorial
to import the task card images and add them to your Plickers library.
More Plickers Resources
Plickers is such an amazing free tool that I was inspired to present two
webinars and write two blog posts about the program. I covered how
to get started with Plickers as well as innovative ways to use Plickers
beyond assessment.
I also set up a Facebook group for teachers who are using Plickers
because I wanted a place where everyone could share ideas and
support each other. You can find links to all of these Plickers resources
on my Interactive Teaching Made Easy page on Teaching Resources.
