TRANSCRIPT
Bingo Showdown is a fun variation of the classic Bingo game that can be used to review any academic content or practice skills in any subject area. Just print and prepare the Bingo game boards once, and use them over and over throughout the year! To customize the game, just add your own task cards. This learning game can be used for whole group instruction, for small group instruction, with cooperative learning teams, or in learning centers. Bingo Showdown includes whole class directions, small group directions, and Bingo Leader role cards.
Materials Needed Dry erase boards, markers, and erasers Bingo Showdown Directions 1 Bingo game board per student Set of task cards numbered 1 to 24 Answer Key Bingo chips or other game markers (dried beans, paper clips, centimeter cubes, etc.)
Customize Bingo Showdown by Adding Task Cards Bingo Showdown does not include ready-to-use task cards because it’s designed to be played in any content area. You can purchase task cards on TpT, or you can make your own using index cards. Number all cards sequentially, and write one problem or one question on the front of each card. Write the answers on the backs of the cards or create a separate answer key. You’ll need 24 task cards for this game.

How to Play Bingo Showdown 1. Play Bingo Showdown with the whole class or in a small guided
instruction group several times before using it in teams or centers. 2. Give each student a Bingo board and a handful of game markers. All
students start by covering the free space indicated by the star. 3. Display the Bingo Showdown Class Directions and explain that for this
round you will serve as the Bingo Leader. Model each step of the directions, making sure students know to place their boards face down after they write their answers. When you say, “Showdown!” they turn their boards over and reveal their answers. Discuss the answers and clarify any misunderstandings. Students who have the correct answer may cover the corresponding numbered space on the game board. Continue playing until someone has 5 game markers in a row.
4. After the first round, you can continue as the Leader or let the winner of that game serve as the Leader for the next round.
Advanced Prep for Small Group Play 1. Glue the Small Group Directions on a 9” x 12” envelope, and
store the Bingo boards and other materials inside. 2. Print the Bingo Leader role cards and include one role card in
each packet. Show students how to fold the role card into a little tent that can be moved for each round of the game.
Bingo Showdown for Teams and Centers The first time you have your students play Bingo Showdown in cooperative learning teams or centers, take time to explain the small group directions. The directions are very similar, but the role of Leader rotates each round. When you hand out the game materials, designate a student on each team to be the first Leader. While students are working, especially when they are still learning how to play the game, move about the room providing help to students who need assistance.
Explain how to check the answer in Step 4, a process that depends on the type of answer key. For example, if the answers are on the backs of the cards, they will need to stack the cards face up during the game and only turn them over when it’s time to check the answer. If the cards have QR codes, be sure your students know how to scan them.
One of the most important features of the game is how group discussion is regulated to optimize learning. Students are not allowed to talk while working in Step 3; however, after all answers are checked in Step 4, students are encouraged to discuss their responses. Before starting the next round, it’s important for everyone in the group to understand how to solve the problem or answer the question. If they rush through the game without taking time to discuss the answers, it becomes a competition more than a learning activity.
