Verses in Siva Gita similar to verses in Bhagavad Gita
Shiva Gita or Siva gItA (SG) is an authentic text with more than three commentaries written
on it. It is a part of padma purANa. In the 12th adhyAya upAsanA G!Ana pha"a we find
verses simi"ar to #G $.2%. Infact SG is more c"ear"y exp"ains the meaning of these verses.
#efore going to chapter 12 "ets have a "oo& at chapter 11 which forms the 'asis of as&ing
uestions on saguNa upAsanA. In SG 11.% 'hagavAn Siva says to 'hagavAn rAma that
उपसक न यतयव यमतपनरधगम .
उपसनर भ तव मदव स ख न प *11.%+
,e rAmachandra - those who thin& nirguNa upAsanA (worship of form"ess attri'ute"ess
'rahman) is difficu"t they shou"d practice saguNa upAsanA (worship to any form of ISvara)
first. Anyone practicing saguNa upAsanA is not demoted to "ower wor"ds (adhogatI) i.e. after
"eaving physica" 'ody Iva/s movement wi"" not 'e downwards 0 SG 11.%

of those worshipping any form of ISvara wi"" never move downwards (to "ower wor"ds).

practice upAsanA.

Isvara said ('hagavAn Siva said 0 ,e rAma - I wi"" exp"ain to you the procedure of upAsanA
and wi"" a"so te"" you at which time and p"ace it must 'e done. 6isten with present
mindedness. A"" the devatA0s are my r7pa on"y (they are me on"y). In rea"ity they are not
different than me 0 SG 12.205

3hose who are devotees of other devatA0s and they faithfu""y worship these devatA0s 8
&ing - they worship me with 'heda 'uddhi (dua" stand point) i.e. they consider these
devatA0s different than me 0 SG 12.

सव + करय)! भ0ह! सव + यह! 5$प रद, *%+
#ecause in this entire wor"d (samsAra) there is nothing except me due to this reason I am
enoyer of a"" actions (&riyA0s) and a"so the giver of fruits of actions (pha"a) 0 SG 12.%

3he one who worships (me) with whatever 'hAva (spiritua" emotion 0 sAttvika, rAjasika,
tAmasika or intention) I in that form of devatA give them fruits according their 'hAva 0
SG 12.9
Now 'hagAvan Siva goes one step further and says
वधनऽवधन वप भ0तय य ममपस .

those who worship me without any vidhi (avidhi upAsanA) or worships me 'y any way
p"eased with their devotion I give them *appropriate+ fruits *of their devotion+ 0 SG 12.:

'hagavad gItA &ruShNa is p"aying the ro"e of g7ru and ISvara and in Siva gItA Siva is
p"aying ro"e of g7ru and ISvara and 'hagavAn rAma is p"aying the ro"e of discip"e for the
good of a"".
