Vernon J. Baker "I'm not a hero. I'm not even close,but the

people that fought and died on the hill they're the heroes". Vernon J. Baker... a man who did so much for society. He help end segregation in the army. He had some hard times on his trip to the U.S Army and to change society for the better. His life was uneventful till he became a rail way porter. He had that job for a while.Then joined the army in WWII. He was on night patrol and a German soldier Came up and they had a knife fight. he killed the German Soldier but was wounded badly. He was hospitalized for 2 months. He was awarded The Purple Heart, the Bronze Star ,and the Distinguished Serve's cross. When he went back to the army he was sent to a base on a hill. He went to fight but he was leading a all white squad. He went on to a hill and the fight started.Many people died but he got out of the There and the people that died on the hill were His squad. He said he wasn't a hero but he saved many lives. He was the first Black man after the fight to win the Medal of honor. He was in the army for 20 years. He Had 3 wife's during and after the war. The first one he devisors. The

second on died,and Hidey was his wife that he died with an age 91 in a hospital in 2010 July 13. He died from cancer and he died on my birthday. He thinks he's not a hero and didn't change society at all! But he changed almost everything in the Army. He Brock down so many walls so now black people can get the medal of Honor.
