The First ever “SUPER STAR” of Indian Cinema
Born on 29th December 1942 Appeared in over 180 films Won the Film fare Lifetime Achievement
Award in 2005. From 1969 to 1972, the Rajesh Khanna
phenomenon swept Bollywood off its feet
He had "the biggest and the maddest fan following, especially his female fans.
He was the only actor who moved around in his mercedes during his struggling days
One of the greatest ironies occoured and The Down-fall began in 1977
Early Life
Jatin, an orphan, was born on 29 December 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab, India
Khanna attended St. Sebastian’s Goan High School in Girgaum, along with his friend Ravi Kapoor
Both friends later studied in Kishinchand Chellaram College
Jatin Khanna's uncle changed Khanna's first name to Rajesh when Khanna decided to join films
Adult life
In the early 1970’s, Khanna fell in love with fashion designer and actress Anju Mahendru
Later Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in 1973 and has two daughters from the marriage
In the eighties Tina Munim was romantically involved with Khanna
Later the distance brought about mutual understanding between Khanna and Dimple kapadia
Early Success
• He won All India Talent Contest• He made his film debut in the 1966 film
“Aakhri Khat” directed by Chetan Anand• Through Aradhana he rose to "instant national
fame" and the film critics started calling him the first superstar of India
• The Kishore Kumar-Rajesh Khanna combination worked miracles and it was almost impossible to see them as separate identities
• Rajesh acted alongside Mumtaz in eight successful films
• When she left films Khanna felt very loss• During the peak of his career he would be
mobbed during public appearances• Actor Mehmood parodied him in his film
Bombay to Goa• Rajesh Khanna had 15 consecutive hits
between 1969 to 1972, which is still an unbroken record in Indian film history
The Period Of Decline
• Between1976 and 1978, Khanna acted in a number of films that were not commercially successful
• A Change in the trend aroused which was the main reason for the down fall
• However, Khanna continued basically in solo hero social sober household meaningful films
Later Career (1979–till Present)
• After 1978, Khanna starred in critically acclaimed films
• Tina Munim and Rajesh Khanna became the leading couples of 80’s on and off screen
• He has performed in the least number of multistar films in comparison to his contemporaries
• He shared a very close relationship with R.D. Burman and Kishore Kumar
• In 1985 it was khanna who supported burman when his songs were not doing so well
• His “ Working –team” Consisted of many of his friends.
• Khanna would always request music directors to fit in Kishore Kumar wherever possible
• Bhandarkar says that he takes at least three or four turns in Carter Road even today only to see Khanna
• Akshay Kumar was a fan of Khanna since his childhood and later as he became son in law

Television and Political Career
• He is a life member of the International Film And Television Research Centre, the International Film And Television Club
• In 2001 and 2002, Rajesh played the lead in two television serials: Aapne Parai and Ittefaq
• He also endorsed Star se Superstar tak - a talent hunt programme in 2007
• From the early nineties onwards he stopped acting and served as M.P. of New Delhi Constituency from 1991 to 1996
• Khanna and a group of foreign investors have bought land in Shirdi on which they plan to build a religious resort for disciples of Sai Baba of Shirdi
