It was one-of-a kind experience. Its our rst time tovisit those universities and it was really educationalas we toured the campuses and had the time tointeract with the professors and representativesfrom each institution, said Judahnissi Calabaroso, aMass Comm senior. The Mass Communicators in Action Societyofcers disclosed that the event would not havebeen possible without the sincere support of theAdministration and the School President.
We really thank the School President from thebottom of our hearts for accommodating us. Westayed at the Kingdom Headquarters in Singaporeand Malaysia and we were provided with all our
needs--nice food, car for our daily schedules andwe also got the chance to buy some pasalubongs, quipped another Mass Comm senior, Al JehanneCasuyac.
Mass Communication Department Head MissMaribel Lanticse also expressed her thanks to allthose who supported the big project. Embarkingon an international t rip is not easy. It needs a lot ofpreparation, a lot of prayers and faith. It took usmonths to coordinate with the university heads andrepresentatives. But I really give glory to the Fatherfor making all things possible and I thank PastorApollo for giving us this very rare privilege, saidMiss Lanticse.
She added that the trip was very enlightening, atthe same time, it made them realize that there isso much that the Philippine Government can andshould do to advance the educational system of thecountry especially in the childrens basic educationin public schools. While other countries enjoysignicant progress in education with the best ofthe worlds technologies, the Philippines continuesto struggle despite all the resources it has to be atpar with its neighbors.
Nonetheless, the realization of the educational tourwas seen to be an occasion for students to thinkand learn beyond the four corners of the classroomand to prepare them in the eld they have chosen.

BATTle ofTheChAMpS 2011 finAleThey say that in every great mind lies a great pack oftrainingand a bundle of passion and determination.
The Mass Communicationprogram of the Jose MariaCollege has once againproven that learningoutside theclassroomwalls canbe equallyeffective and important tothe success of students in developingand bringingoutthe best inthem. It believes that purpose and fervorare
what it takes to become equipped in whatever eld anindividualis seeking.
In applicationof the theories learned fromMC 119(Theater Arts and Production) class, the Mass Commseniors invaded the Queen City of the South for thenale of the Radyoke Challenge: Battle of the Champs2011 initiated by DYAR 765 Sonshine Radio Cebu. Thisis an annualevent that showcases the talents of youngsingingacionados inthe Visayas region.
Together with Professor Ronnie Luma, Theatre Artsand Production Instructorand Music Director of theshow, the three seniors, namely: Al Jehannce Casuyac,
JudahnissiCalabroso and this writerwere tasked withtheprogram conceptualization, hosting, video editing andthe voice overfor the commercials and advertisementsof the event.
It was indeed agreat experience forus. It was abig show
and we didnt have enoughexperience to handle aneventas grandas the nale of the Battle of the Champs, butwiththe guidance of ourprofessorwe were able to makeit. Andwe didnt simply makeit, we made it excellently,Casuyac quipped inaninterview.
Mr. Luma also extended his warmest thanks andappreciationfor all the support that led to the greatsuccess of the event.
I am gratefulto the School Administrator, Dr. NellyQ. Canadaand the Mass Comm ProgramHead, Ms.MaribelLanticse fortheirapproval and suggestions; toSonshine Radio Cebuforthe trust that we could mountit despite the lack of manpower; and to the CEO, Pastor
Apollo C. Quiboloy for without his support, I and thestudents would neverbe able to contribute to the successof the program, Mr. Luma wittingly said afterthe event. He added that as an instructor, theres nothing moreimportant thanknowingthat his students have learnedfromhim and that this knowledge has already becomeapart of them.
Meanwhile, Ms. Lanticse also commended the studentsand Mr. Lumafor takingpart inthe annualevent whichhas become anavenue for the Theatre Arts learners toexplore and learn.
We are always opento activities like this because webelieve that learning is not just conned in the four
inVAdeCeBUfor
corners of the room. And itis our goalin the MassCommunication Department to go beyond classroomlearningbecause that willallow ourstudents to put theirtheoreticalknowledge into practice, Miss Lanticse said.
Aside fromthe big show, the students also enjoyed thesights and sounds of the wonderfulCity of Cebu.
The event is hoped to give inspirationto all futurelearners of Theatre Arts and Production in the JoseMariaCollege.
